This last week we talked about where ideas actually come from and how other people are artist influence your ideas. Nothing that is coming is new, it is recycled, reused, reframed, to match the current times and thoughts on society today. One of my favorite things from this week was, just hearing that you need to get all the bad ideas out on the table to see them and just get them out of your head. I think it is super important because I at least get stuck a lot of them on things that I don't talk out, and even if it is just the worst idea in the world, at least I’m not dwelling on it and it is up in the air someone or something to add to it.

Week 5

This week in class we talk a lot about creativity. Some things that really stuck with me, one how creativity is never really define, it is what you want it to be, and it can be learned. It is about awareness and expression, it is problem-solving. Another thing I thought was fun, was the little tidbit of information, that pushing something off often leads to better ideas in the long run, because you're forced to think about it. I also really like the quote “a willingness to look stupid” because if you want to do anything creative, someone will make sure you know they think it is stupid, and if you don't care you can run the world.

Blog #5

This week we talked about personas and storytelling. On Monday Joel came and talked to us about how he uses personas and he gave us some really good examples from work he did at the local co-op. He really focused on finding connections and using empathy when using personas and how they actually help when making a creative brief. On Wednesday we talked a lot about storytelling. People tend to get so caught up about the how the story is going to end, and they forget that the story is really about the journey not the ending, and all this just leads but to the fact it is not about the answers to a problem it is how you ask the questions.

Although I missed the first class of last week, but I did get some great notes to from a few people that summarized Laurens talk. From what I got from it, it was a lot about changing how people see things, and thinking in a different manner. I made a card with just a dot on it and asked what do you see? Most people would say they say a dot, but Lauren asked why doesn't you see the space around the dot? I think that is how she really ties uses visual aids. She also touched on coming prepared and showing respect to the person you are talking to, and the best place to meet people is where they are doing that they love.

This week in class we talked about our up coming project. We are making a creative brief that another team in the class will take on after we have made it. It is important to hit peoples pain points when doing any project, to get solid answers out of people. People get so caught up in what something is or isn't, it blocks they're creativity, so by just thinking “box” > box, taking the blinders off, so you can really be creative, they do the same thing with answers, that they forget they're are asking the wring questions. When handing your work off to someone else to finish, it is something that is supposed to feel good, that you almost don't want to give up, but it also feels like a gift to them.

Blog Post #1: April 8th

Empathy

This past week we learned the 5 steps of the design thinking process. Starting with empathy, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Empathy was something that has stuck with me through out my week, it is something I feel not a lot people, including myself, think about much anymore, in life and creating. I am super excited for the rest of class and what else we are going to be doing, being able to learn to connect with people, and how to do that in a meaningful way, and being able to design something that they did not know they even needed.
