🌼The Maypole🌼
☀️What is a maypole?☀️
The maypole dance takes part on May 1st for Beltane. This is a form of folk dance of an ancient Germanic pagan ritual. It involves moving in circles under a poll to wrap ribbons around it, symbolizing fertility and the start of spring. Traditionally, the women take the white ribbons with their right sides to the pole, and the men take the red ribbons with their left sides to the pole, representing fertility and the birth canal. Many other colors are used, and sometimes only females take part, The weaving of the symbolic birth canal (some believe that instead of a birth canal, it is a phallic symbol, which is why some dances are preformed by mostly women) begins with music or chanting as everyone moves forward from where they stand, moving alternately over and under each person coming toward them. (Traditionally, the men begin weaving under the upheld ribbon of the first woman they encounter).
🌷What attire should I wear?🌷 People who dance around the maypole typically dress in white so that their ribbons and scarves, that were brightly colored, stood out. The flowers wreaths are symbolic of spring, and they also decided to dance barefoot to connect to the earth better. 🌼How do I use the maypole?🌼 Typically, people go in opposite circles around the maypole, skipping or jogging to the beat of the music or chant. Continue the dance until the maypole is wrapped. There is no right way to wrap a maypole. Tie off your ribbons and let the wreath drop to the ground when you are done. Many wear bells when dancing the May dance. The point is that Beltane is all about joining both female and male energy.
🌸Maypole chant:🌸 We are the flow and we are the ebb We are the weavers, we are the web We are the needle, we are the thread We are the witches, back from the dead Weavers, weavers, We are weaving the web of life. Weave, weave, weave me a rainbow Out of the falling rain. Weave me the hope of a new tomorrow. Fill my cup again Lady, weave Your circle tight With a web of living light Earth and Air and Fire and Water Bind us to you. ✨Have a blessed Beltane!✨
Witchcraft 101: Taglocks
If you’ve been doing some reading on witchcraft and spellcraft, it is likely that you’ve seen the word ‘taglock‘ crop up a few times.
If you haven’t, worry not.
A taglock is something that has been used in witchcraft for a very (very), long time and all it is, is an object or substance that forges a strong link between your target and your magick.
Traditionally, taglocks are things such as blood, spit, hair or nail clippings, – direct DNA. The use of DNA creates a stronger magickal bond. Nowadays, however, snagging someone’s blood in their sleep is generally frowned upon and quite difficult, so suitable replacements include cigarette butts, used tissues, used plastic cutlery and easily obtained things of that ilk.
You will notice that taglocks are often used in curses and hexes as it binds the target to the spell and therefore amplifies the magick and ensures that it affects the intended person. They are used in binding spells for the same reason; to tie the person to the magick.
However, bear in mind that taglocks are not malevolent in themselves. They are simply a means of forming a bond and can thus be used in protection, healing and positivity magick!
❌ how to know if you’ve been hexed ❌
and what to do
one of a witch’s worst fears is being cursed, hexed, jinxed, etc. here, i’ll explain symptoms of these negative spells and how to reverse it or protect yourself.
stay safe! 🌈🧿🌞
difference between: curse, hex, vex, and jinx
there are many types of negative spells so it’s totally normal to be confused between the terms :)
curse: causes direct harm to the victim, this is probably the most intense version of negative magick
hex: ill intentions are wished upon the victim
vex: similar or same as jinx, harasses the victim
jinx: a simple negative spell that causes discomfort or inconveniences to someone
symptoms
personal items going missing
intense nightmares
sudden medical problems
sudden legal problems
hard time falling asleep
sudden relationship problems
loss of energy
a string of bad luck
random pain
scattered mind and confusion
bad memory
⚠️ disclaimer ⚠️
you will also “feel” as if you’ve been cursed/hexed. a lot of these symptoms can be a part of mental illnesses so if you’re already struggling mentally, talk to your medical provider about these issues. trust your gut!
also, you’re more likely to be cursed if you know a lot of witches or a lot of witches know you. if you keep your craft a secret and don’t post about it on social media, chances are you probably aren’t hexed.
think about if you’ve angered anyone who practices witchcraft or has ill wishes against you and consider if any medications you could be taking could cause negative side effects.
what to do
reflect the spell back at the caster
cast a protection spell
do divination work (pendulum or tarot) to see if you’ve been hexed
meditate and cleanse your chakras
bind the caster if you know who they are
use protective talismans (such as the evil eye)
utilize your knowledge on herbs and rocks for protection
I've been connecting more with my tarot deck recently, so I started to do larger spreads. I don't usually share here my personal readings because I feel like they are kinda private, like something between my deck and me (that doesn't mean I'll never post any of them, who knows hehe), but I'll let you know which ten cards spreads I'm offering now!
If you're interested, just send me a message. You can ask for my email if you feel more comfortable using that.
