Made this custom piece for my dear friend Cait. Can't get enough of this peach and teal color combo.
Some of my more recent work.
My very talented coworker Mark Cersosimo made a video about me and my weavings!
Very happy with the color combo of my latest weaving!
My biggest weaving yet! This one’s all about the textures.
Finally got my hands on the Mollie Makes issue with my weaving tutorial in it. It feels incredible to see it in print!
Jess and I are organizing our first Weekend Weavers meetup in Brooklyn! Sign up if you can come join us. :)
Learning to Weave: All the DIYs you need to get started
When I took my first weaving class this spring with the incredible Maryanne Moodie, I was immediately hooked. Since then I've been making new weavings almost every weekend, found a ton of other weavers on Instagram, shown some of my work at Deck Salon in Brooklyn, and I was asked to write a weaving tutorial for Mollie Makes magazine!
If you're looking to get started with weaving, there's no shortage of classes, online tutorials, and videos to get you started! Here are just a few that I found helpful.
If you don't have a loom, Etsy's tutorial just requires a small piece of cardboard and a large needle to get started.
Loom and Spindle covers the most common mistakes new weavers make, and how to fix them.
A Beautiful Mess has 3 tutorials - The Basics, Creating Shapes and Getting Fancy, and Create a Large Statement Piece.
If you're more of a visual learner, online crafting shop Hello Chiqui has a YouTube channel with videos that show you how to use shuttles and bobbins, as well as techniques like loops, soumac, and rya.
Sandy Bocuzzo also has great tutorial videos for creating tiger stripes, trimming rya, and other weaving basics.
And for something a little more advanced, Hello Hydrangea shows you how to cheat perfect vertical stripes. I'll be trying this out with my next weaving!
That should be plenty to start. I hope to see your creations on Instagram!
YOU GUYS, my weaving tutorial is in this month's issue of Mollie Makes!
Textile art has experienced a major resurgence in 2014, gaining popularity at every scale from a seasoned pro like Sheila Hicks putting up three exhibitions to a proliferation of Etsy shops led by creative, driven artists around the country. One such shop belongs to Rachel Gottesman, who sells on Etsy under the moniker Heddle and Needle. We especially like the deep indigo hues of her fringed Grid Tapestry, which some might call "architect-y" in its symmetry.

Wonderful to see Rachel's work featured in Dwell's Holiday Gift Guide!
Roving and neon go together so nicely.
Sometimes simple is best.
Pretty happy with how these clouds turned out.
I love seeing other weavers’ workspaces.
Today’s lazy accomplishment is this ombre loopy weaving.
All hail the incredible Sheila Hicks.
