i don't think i really caught it when i was little and watching no.6 for the first time and i only got a hold of it for the first time years after, but what mostly gets me about nezushi's relationship is how they take each other's hands and drag the other out of their comfort zone kicking and screaming. nezumi bares the ugly sides of the world for shion to see, shows him its rotting insides and its parasitic ways, forces him to think for himself; shion shows nezumi the light, the warmth of the sun, how kindness is not a curse nor a weight to carry. they idealize each other because the other holds between his hands things they would never consider themselves capable of taking for themselves. nezumi tells shion your heart will kill you and shion takes his hand and asks will it? didn't your heart save me?

Reminder of what No.6 is mainly about, guys.

I love Nezumi and Shion more than anything. Trust me.

But their relationship was always secondary to the novels being a political statement.

This is an actual interview with Atsuko Asano, about her inspiration for city of No.6. She quite literally said one of her inspirations for it was the political environment in the USA, following 9/11.

For her to choose to continue this series right now, after so many years, is probably not a coincidence.

Their struggles are eerily similar to what many real people face in our world all the time.

I have a feeling there will be some pretty important themes in this new series.

I hope those who read it can appreciate every element of it - not only our beloved characters, but the reason they have a story to begin with.
