the soul jams are honestly as contradictory and chaotic as the weïrd sisters form macbeth . big ramble about shadow milk's macbeth parallel below cut

we all know ad lib is based off macbeth now, right. if you weren't forced to study it in school, this quote was said by the witches when referring to banquo, saying he wouldn't be happy, (he'd never become king) yet much happier (would never be driven mad because of it)

this really reminds me of shadow milk and silent salt. In the end, ss dies on the battlefield, and to most people, that would seem like him losing, but ss is happy in death because he believes he has fulfilled his purposed and saved everyone from dark enchantress' tyranny with white lily. He does die, but he dies satisfied and at peace.

Shadow milk gets what he wants, and this should make him happier. but the power he has absorbed from his dead friends and the ultimate cookie has made him weak and is driving him insane, both from his growing need for control and the influence of the other beasts on his mind. Every time we see him onscreen, his stability and mental state are visibly deteriorating. silent salt is "not so happy, yet much happier" than shadow milk in this way.

this quote also comes directly from the witches as a prophecy for macbeth, who are similar to the soul jams with their unclear motives and prophetic powers. The witches purposefully toy with macbeth's mind, knowing that their words will influence him to go on a rampage. Likewise, the soul jams (particularly deceit but also knowledge as a whole) poke fun at shadow milk's loneliness and are partially responsible for his corruption as seen in dominion of the beasts, despite the fact that they should know better as higher powers.

"everything has fallen into place" means that he was aware she was planning to die and agreed with it,, which feels strange to me

of course silent salt prioritises peace and order, and he would sacrifice a lot to achieve such. but white lily has been foreshadowing and expecting her own death since she woke up in the fearie kingdom. She spoke of her eventual death like it was the only sad path that she deserved to go down, which implied to the viewers that her thought process was unhealthy and incorrect

Which is why silent salt's relief at her success makes him seem equally deluded, if not more so than her

in ep12, silent salt saw white lily as the guiding light towards peace, that she was his hope for the future. this all feels kind of meaningless now knowing that it would lead to him encouraging her death.. how is she supposed to show the way to the future when she literally died. for someone that was kneeling before her and placing his complete faith in her, it doesn't make sense to me that he would later help her with in plans to end her own life. his belief that she would guide the future seems redundant when he agrees with her bleak vision.

but he doesn't just agree with her death, he actively stopped the ancients from preventing it,, by threatening white lily's friend to stay quiet behind her back?? i don't want to seem like someone who thinks all the beasts are completley innocent, but on the other hand this felt so gross and out of character to me. he seems completley delusional and determined for white lily to sacrifice herself for the greater good

devsis wants us to agree with silent salt, but in order to do that we need to believe that pure vanilla would be incorrect for not wanting to her to die in order to defeat de. because silent salt, her other half and the one who understands her most, agreed that the only way was for her to die. and pure vanilla, who doesn't understand her as previously stated, is emotional and delusional for wanting her to find a better way to be forgiven,,

a genius, and very aware of it. she's ambitious and often looks down on others that she views as unintelligent

as such, she's a very solitary person. she only really has one friend, most people struggle to put up with her because of how standoffish and arrogant she can be.

she would never admit it, but she gets quite lonley.

a musical prodigy. she can easily pick up most instruments and has been trained in ballet and dance by shadow milk. however she has come to hate all kinds of theatre because of shadow milk's harsh teaching methods...

she has a very strong sense of justice. she thinks shadow milk is an irredeemable monster and pure vanilla is a weak willed enabler, both must be punished for all the suffering they've caused. in her ideal world, they would be no more and she would take both their soul jams.

so, she does not like her parents

unfortunatley she is very similar to shadow milk, personaity wise. lonley, but very self absorbed and pushes away/mistreats the one person who enjoys her company. A huge control freak who is as arrogant as she is talented.

she struggles a lot with restraint. she wants to be viewed as collected and respected, but to do that she has to try and conceal her violent tendencies, large appetite, and general arrogance.

bonus - she accidentally made egg custard when she was trying to replicate the cauldron recipe that created her. she instead made an unkillable cat that won't leave her alone
