started an event suggestion box at my library branch. I made little slips to put a title and description on. We got mostly practical ones(lego building evenings, music class, reading buddies) but my favorite one was from a little boy who told me what it was as he put it in. Good thing too because I couldn't read his handwriting at all. It was one word.

And the thing is i think we're gonna do it! We're starting a dragon themed reading challenge and the wrap party could be a feast*!

I ended up having a really interesting conversation with some people at the bus stop today. They were getting out of some sort of ‘clean and sober’ meeting and had starting saying how they were so bored because they didn’t have anything to do, and had to stay at home because all their old friends would pull them back. So I said something like, ‘So this is the time to do all the stuff your parents told you they didn’t have money/time for!’ “Whatcha mean?” “You know, like when you were five and you REALLY wanted to have that toy or do that thing and you were like, ‘Please mom please I gotta have this I gotta go do this’ and they went ‘Hell no you think I’m paying for that do you want to goddamn EAT?’ “ And this light went on in their eyes. The lady is going to go check thrift stores for an Easybake Oven and I told her about Wilton cake decorating classes. The dude is going to Griffith Park and ride horses, because, ‘I always wanted to be a cowboy, and you can’t drink when you’re on a horse ‘cause you’ll fucking die!’ Fuck it. This is what being an adult is. Sure it’s bills and work and relationships, but damn it, it’s also time to do the things you LIKE. I signed up for a free class/lecture on Water Gardens. I’m going. It’s time.

This is genuinely a big part of sobriety, learning who you are and want to be as a person, what your interests are, what you like doing now that you’re focused on being a human and not being addicted.

I have so much time and money (relatively) for reading and writing and learning and everything else now that I’m not centering my days around drinking, and now that I have therapeutic skills and am not automatically drinking away any way that I feel. Big Sobriety Win.

the scariest thing about old tv isnt really the racism or the sexisim because you kinda go in braced for that it's all the scenes where suddenly an actress is holding a lion cub or a chimpanzee is in the same room as a toddler, or suddenly theres a lion, or there's a chimpanzee again but it's driving a car, or holding a lighter, or holding fireworks. You just kind of watch in horror as over and over an actress performs with only 1960s tv film shootings best animal handling between her and the opening to Nope.
