It had to have been in the dead of night when Lance was hazily awoken by the gentle shift in weight on his bed and the soft press of warm skin to his.
Lance’s heart flushed with excitement and before Keith could settle in behind him, he sleepily lifted himself up a bit to turn towards Keith so he could get a good look at his boyfriend whom he hadn’t seen in months. After the war, they all had been busy in the effort to rebuild, but perhaps none more so than Keith, who was traveling far and wide across the galaxy with the Blade on relief missions.
He had been on a mission that was particularly far away and Lance had been expecting him to be back sometime within the month but he had no way of knowing what day he would return exactly. So seeing Keith now, scooting into bed behind him after probably having just landed back on earth was a surprise too fantastic to not appreciate fully, even if it was 4 in the morning.
“Keith?” He said, his voice quiet and groggy from sleep. “You’re home!”
Lance watched Keith’s beautiful face soften with an expression that warmed him to the core. “I’m home.” Keith replied softly, speaking deeply in a tone so affectionate and happy that it made Lance’s entire body melt into the sheets.
Finally, wonderfully, Keith settled in behind him wrapping his arms around Lance and entwining their fingers as Keith tucked his chin to rest over Lance’s shoulder.
“Sorry that I woke you up.” He whispered gently. “I tried to be quiet so you could stay asleep.”
Lance smiled, mostly to himself knowing that Keith couldn’t see his face with the way that he was positioned and turned over in Keith’s arms to give him a long, loving kiss, eyes still half shut from his drowsiness.
“You don’t have to apologize,” He smiled, nuzzling his face into Keith’s neck. “The sooner I get to see you the better.” Keith smiled back, running his hands through Lance’s hair until he promptly dozed back off, snuggled into his chest.
With a happy sigh, Keith too closed his eyes, reveling in the feeling of Lance’s hot little breaths on his collarbone and the warmth of his body pressed cozily up his middle.
Home… he thought. It’s really, really good to be home.
