Thank you all for being patient and sticking with us to the very end! After 3 years of development, it's still hard to believe that we're finally done. We hope you'll love the story and characters just as much as we do, and we hope you enjoy the game!
Alice's Reverie 1 Year Launch Anniversary Postmortem
It's almost hard to believe it, but yes! It's officially been 1 year since the launch of Alice's Reverie and, boy, a lot has happened since then.
First and foremost, we want to thank every single person who had followed the development of AR, has been supporting us, played the game, or shared it with a friend! We were both pretty nervous since Alice's Reverie is our first ever Visual Novel that we've made, but all of your love and support is what helped us get to that final release day! Now, we've been pretty quiet on our socials too, but we've been reading every comment and review you left on Alice's Reverie and it reminds us of why we wanted to make this game in the first place; for people to be able to play a cute, fantasy-inspired game where they could kiss other lesbians and feel happy <3
There was definitely a lot we learned during the (very, very long) development of Alice's Reverie, and the biggest thing would be just how much time and work goes into making a game of this size. Of course, the pandemic hitting us in the middle of development made things slow down a bit as the stress of the world made our motivation take a hit, but I'm glad we really put our noses to the grindstone to get this game done last year!
Even though we weren't able to release it within Pride Month of 2021 like we wanted (and we had to cut out a lot of content at the end of development to try and make that deadline), I feel like we are both proud of the final product nonetheless. And, hey, now we know exactly what to do next time! Since this was the first time either of us literally even touched Ren'py (and programming in general), there were things we ended up learning that we can now apply to the next game we want to make! Next time, we'll plan things out better so there will be significantly fewer nights of lost sleep :-)
After we finished with the release of the game and the art book, we both took this year to take a break from any kind of development and focus on healing and growth of skills. We love Alice's Reverie to death, but it was pretty all-consuming with our current lifestyle. There's even something we've been doing separate from Red&Pink that we've been doing to get a breath of fresh air and we want to eventually unite those two worlds together, but now is not the time. Until then, we're waiting until school is out of the equation forever before we start developing and publicly talking about our next game that we have planned!
But seriously, thank you all for making the 7 years it took to fully develop Alice's Reverie worth it! We glad you love our funky lil' lesbians just as much as we do <3
Would you ever post an endings guide since the game has been out for a while now? I want to get all the endings but there’s some I’m not sure how to get.
Hello, we didn't quite plan on releasing a full guide since we already have one in the bonus art book, but if you're having some trouble getting certain endings we can list out a ~vague~ guide on how the endings work!
Each act has a total of 3 points that you can acquire towards the main endings, and there are 3 acts in total! Each act requires at least 2 points to progress to one of the 2 good endings otherwise you'll get a bad end instead.
There is also 1 set of choices in each act that don't count towards this, but you'll know which one is which when the heart icon comes up! A red pulsing heart means you got one point, while a grey heart means you got no points (which means it doesn't subtract to your overall point count). Morrigan's route runs differently since she has a total of 10 possible points, but she runs on the same principle.
If you're having trouble getting all the act 3 endings, we recommend playing around with your point count in act 1 and 2, otherwise I hope this helps!
At a whopping 126 pages, this artbook contains a full look at the game's sprites, a select amount of CGs and backgrounds, concept art, miscellaneous art through the years, and a game guide so unlocking all those endings is just a little bit easier!
The book can be obtained either by purchasing it through itch.io for at least $5 or by becoming an artist-tier ($5) patron on our Patreon
Since it's been a week since launch, we just wanted to give a lil word about what's going on behind the scenes!
First of all, it makes us so happy to reach 160+ downloads within the first week! Seeing that number go up faster than the demo makes all those years of our hard work worth it!
Also, the artbook! It's almost done! It's currently at 49 pages and and there will def be more. Who knew that trying to fit 7 years worth of art into a book would be difficult? Anyway, expect that to release sometime early next week.
We've uploaded Alice's Reverie Version 1.02 in order to fix the following bugs:
Repeating Events in Lulu's coronation sequence no longer throws and error
Lulu's Wonderland End CG now shows up in the gallery after you view it (whoops)
Viewing Morrigan's Coronation CG no longer causes a crash when clicking the "next" button
That's all for now! Make sure to download the new version of the game and if you find any more errors when playing, tell us ASAP and we'll fix then right away!
Squashed some bugs with Vee's fourth ending, Skylar's 5th bonus scene, and Morrigan's 2nd bonus scene. Two of these are more noticeable, with one causing an error, so please download the new version of the game!
Fixed a small bug in the game, so if you have to OG version of the full game please re-download so that you can replay Wendy's "Missing the White Rabbit" ending without the game giving you an error
If anything else goes wrong when you play let us know ASAP so we can fix it!
I bring bad news… we are still not done yet. We’ve been working all day to make sure the routes are 👌🏻polished but we’re still not quite done . 3/7 acts polished so far and its getting late, so we will be releasing the game tomorrow at a better time for everyone’s convenience
Sorry for making everyone wait! Our last round of code cleanup is taking a longer than we anticipated. The game will still be available today but expect a release later in the day🙇♀️
We'll make sure to make another post with a link to the full release once everything is ready!
We really wanted to be able to release the game by this point in the day, but we want to make sure you're getting a quality game rather than something rushed. Thank you and I hope you all understand.
1 day left! All those years of development are finally coming to an end! We hope you're all as excited to play as we're excited to complete our first game.
