Spotting PANTONE®'s Colour Trends For 2018 At The Intirio Exhibition.
Being a student Interior Stylist has its perks, you see, and so I got on the train to Ghent last weekend (on what would have otherwise been a quite uneventful Sunday) and snuck in amongst the pros to catch a glimpse of this year's top trends in the land of home styling. Today's main subject on this blog? Pantone's presentation of this year's colour trends. Four trends, to be exact, each beautifully represented by a bunch of carefully selected pictures which ended up looking so aesthetically pleasing that I couldn't help but fall in love with at least a single detail of each of them. Let's take a look!
SKIN
The skin palette takes our current obsession with personalising our body with tattoos and piercings and translates that into a soft palette that just screams human intimacy. It takes soft colours that refer to our skin, eyes and lips and tops it off with accents taken from the inky blues or even soft greens of (faded) tattoos.
What I love most about this palette is its nod to humanity and the contrast between its soft tones and the ones that really pop. That, and I'm absolutely smitten with the Topaz, Smoke, Evening Blue and Cloud Blue!
OFFLINE
OFFLINE represents our growing need to get away from our tech-filled lives and the constant expectations of always having to have an opinion about everything on hand (let alone the fact that you should always be prepared to fiercely defend that opinion as well, am I right?), and just press pause to enjoy some peace and quiet. It builds its palette around discrete and intermediate tones, mixing colours and ending up with neither one nor the other, greying them up as a finishing touch.
Weathered and natural materials and a notch of nostalgia are basic ingredients for this trend, and that along with the idea of getting away is probably why it's my favourite of the four trends as a whole.
ECLECTIC BLEND
The ECLECTIC BLEND palette is a mix of styles set on finding a unique identity heavily influenced by the 15th and 16th century. It blends graphic elements, a certain styleless warmth and nods to the realistic paintings and art deco of those times into a wide colour palette with a rather dark and complex atmosphere.
This was by far the palette that stood out most among the rest of them. It had a unique feel to it, and I don't know about you but it just screams 'magic' to me. I quite like it.
MYTH
Lastly, MYTH draws its inspiration from those stories that sweep you away to an untouched, exotic world full of opportunities and colours. It's a kind of cheery chaotic concept, filled with mythical creatures and lots of plants, and renders some sort of escapism. A place where you can be whoever you want to be, so to speak. And according to Pantone, the colours should be just like that pure, unsmudged and quite imagined identity: bright and cheerful. Now, I've never been a fan of exotism (my idea of a perfect trip is the Highlands, peeps) and this palette truly is a bit bright to my taste (although I absolutely love the green tint in it), but I DID like the way they presented their colours here. They used (super) heroes' masks. Mythical in their very own way, don't you think? Can you spot the mistake, by the way? I guess someone didn't check his colour chart properly... ;)
So there you have your general colour trends for 2018! There were plenty more things to be seen at the exhibition, however, so stay tuned for more on the topic. ;) And for now:
Q: What's your favourite 2018 colour combination from Pantone?
