Okay, so sometimes, even though the best of us make rash decisions, bad decisions. Decisions we know we’re pretty much going to regret the moment, the minute, especially the morning after. Well, you know, maybe not regret regret, because we at least put ourselves out there, but, still, something inside us decides to do a crazy thing, A thing we know will probably turn around, bite us in the ass. Yet, we do it anyway. What I’m saying is we reap what we sow. What comes around goes around. It’s karma, and anyway you slice it, karma sucks. Like I was saying, payback’s a bitch. One way or another our karma will leave us to face ourselves. We can look our karma in the eye, or we can wait for it to sneak up on us from behind. One way or another our karma will always find us. And the truth is, as surgeons, we have more chances than most to set the balance in our favor. No matter how hard we try, we can’t escape our karma. It follows us home. I guess we can’t really complain about karma. It’s not unfair, it’s not unexpected, it just evens the score. And even when we’re about to do something we know will tempt karma to bite us right in the ass, it goes without saying, we do it anyway.
George O'Malley, 2.19
Gratitude. Appreciation. Giving thanks. No matter what words you use, it all means the same thing. Happy. We’re supposed to be happy. Grateful. For friends, family, happy to just be alive, whether we like it or not. Maybe we’re not supposed to be happy. Maybe gratitude has nothing to do with joy. Maybe being grateful means recognizing what you have for what it is. Appreciating small victories. Admiring the struggle it takes simply to be human. Maybe we’re thankful for the familiar things we know. And maybe we’re thankful for the things we’ll never know. At the end of the day, the fact that we have the courage to still be standing is reason enough to celebrate.

Why are some people so nasty? So angry all the time? I just want to tell them to chill the eff out and take a breath, it's surprising their head isn't exploding from their blood pressure exceeding normal human limits.
How do we prevent these people from affecting our lives? It's within ourselves, I know. But it's damn hard!
Spent most of the evening last night trying to adjust Gumbo to the new home and cats. At one point she was definitely under the kitchen table with the other four surrounding her. It's no wonder she prefers being underneath the couch. I did get her to eat a bit, however, so I'm no longer concerned that she is going to starve herself and die alone underneath the couch and I would then have a dead cat living in the living room, who Ado would probably try to eat.
I think it's time for a change.
Damnit-it IS time for a change!
You can have my heart if you can place that quote.

I sent my deposit in for UConn Law yesterday morning! After a year of blogging about the LSAT and applications and rejections I have finally reserved my place in law school for the fall!
I will work on my Masters thesis at UNH while completing my first year of law school, work in the Violence Prevention Center, and carry a couple of shifts at Archies. And live. And live. And continue to live.
I want to begin writing again. I've been reading "The Book of Ayurveda: A Holistic Approach to Health and Longevity," and am fascinated. Vatta, Pitta, Kapha. I am definitely of a Pitta constitution, which I knew when the lovely Natalie and I discussed this so many years ago. Yet not until the thorough reading of this book did I realize how much the various constitutional energies effect my mood and play themselves out in my daily life. I suggest that EVERYONE read this.
I am Finally all caught up on my homework, for the first time since ANY semester began! Now I'm just working on catching up on my to do list, which all of a sudden seems attainable. Masters degree, taking off the weight, making sure my income matches my expenditures and quality of life I feel comfortable with...these have been the things that consume my life daily. I am okay with this. I still want more.
I am discontent, I am excited, I am happy, I am striving. I have the greatest people in the world in my life. I am grateful. People to talk with, people to drink with, people to dance with, people to cry with...and that single bond that is there through it all, yet not encapsulating me...not holding me back...not stifling me...holding me in spirit.
So very grateful for so much. And still striving. Still discontented. Still ok with that.
Dear Friends — you should watch The West Wing.

It's been awhile since I've blogged on here. Schoolwork, work work, life work, everything.
I often wonder about blogging. Sometimes to me it seems like souvenirs from a vacation. Do we need them? Aren't the memories enough? Does what we are doing count if we cease writing and collecting mementos?
Who am I writing for?
Thoughts?
I love the sort of sense it makes as a metaphor, and then no, no sense at all.
I really like this. This is actually really cool.
