Personal Story

It's been on my mind lately because I'm still embarrassed, so I thought I'd share it here in hopes that someone will enjoy it!

I'm a big MTG nerd. I have a group of friends that play almost every weekend and this particular weekend was no different. We were meant to meet in the evening, around 6:30 pm. I had worked a 9-5 and immediately went to the gym to get a quick workout in. Except I worked out a little too intensely than I meant to (just got in the zone I guess), so I quickly showered at the gym and headed to my buddy's house.

I had taken my lunch an hour earlier than usual to accommodate a meeting at 1, so the last time I ate anything was noon, which wasn't much to be fair.

So here I am walking into the house with a handful of friends and acquaintances to play a card game with an empty stomach. I didn't even consider this until I started settling into my seat and felt the emptiness and little rumbles. I panicked immediately grabbed a can of soda hoping sips of it would calm the growling... it didn't. 😭

I was sitting between a friend and a mutual who I've been crushing on lately- which feels dumb to say, but it's the truth. We're shuffling our decks and setting the table up and I started to convince myself I was good. I wasn't feeling the amount of hunger pangs I was expecting. Except that damn soda eventually jump-started my appetite..

We're in round 3 or 4, or roughly a half hour into the game and OUT OF NOWHERE my stomach made the loudest, most desperate growl I've ever heard it make. I felt my face immediately turn red and all I could do was put my hand over my stomach and apologize to everyone. Everyone laughed, of course, except the mutual friend I mentioned. She was so kind to me and touched my shoulder and said "it's okay, I'm hungry too."

I couldn't even speak, I just laughed out a "yeah" and kept looking down at my cards. Because not only am I embarrassed, but now I'm sitting here hoping I hear her stomach soon too. I normally wouldn't share a story like this because I didn't think it was anything to write about, except it happened again a few minutes later.

All I could do was slump down in my chair a little and say "Sorry guys, I'm starving." and then offered to see if I had a snack in my car. The girl next to me pipes up and says "If you find something, will you share with me? My stomach is going to start sounding like yours in a minute."

I didn't get very far from the table when the host said he'd just order pizza anyway since a majority of people haven't had dinner yet.

Long story short, I never heard her stomach but everyone at the table could hear mine multiple times. She never spoke about it with me again and I've been too embarrassed to bring it up, so. This was my Friday a month or two ago. Enjoy😭
