“I do my thing and you do yours. I am not in this world to live up to your expectations, and you are not in this world to live up to mine. You are you and I am I, and if by chance we find each other, then it is beautiful. If not, it can’t be helped.”
— Fritz Perls

Love is a decision, it is a judgment, it is a promise. If love were only a feeling, there would be no basis for the promise to love each other forever. A feeling comes and it may go. How can I judge that it will stay forever, when my act does not involve judgment and decision.
Erich Fromm, The Art of Loving (via wnq-writers)
To the men who don’t know how to love a woman, you are genocide; For with your words and with your actions you carve out a nation from its womb when you plant your seed in her but are never there to reap it; cause you yourself were premature; You know nothing of harvest cause you take pride in counting the dead buds that stain your bed at night; cause unlike other little boys your age you were never taught to count stars instead; So you thrust yourself to sleep to the tune of her naive moans caressing you into a dream that led you to believe that somewhere between her legs lay the throne of your manhood. To the men who are smart enough to move their lips to say “girls are crazy” but are just not smart enough to ask why. To the men who get offended by “all men are trash” but expect me to “throw my ass in a circle” to “these hoes ain’t loyal” then turn around and say “baby girl you a freak” yet the only freak present in this sh*t show is its driver: mentality. To you men who shame their mothers by spitting their worth into the lips of another woman; and ridiculing their gift as woman to birth life, then turn around and say “mama I love you” yet you curse every woman with the same gifts and expect them to birth your sin which will one day turn to them, after committing your same crimes, and say to them too “mama I love you.”

December. Home. The two things are intrinsically linked for me. Have been, knowingly, for almost a third of my life now. The days are long and dark, the perfect excuse for fairy lights, whimsical novelty. My favourite moments are so often linked to sitting on or by a window, watching delicate snow fall while everybody else sleeps. There’s a calm in those moments that nothing compares to. Equally, a frosty loneliness. In previous years, too often my mind wandered to the wrong people, longing to share those moments with them. Not appreciating just experiencing them. Those feel like distant memories now. December is a chameleon month. Decembers used to mean so many things. They still do but the meanings have shifted. What once was a joy remains no longer. It’s more sentiments now than material goods. I’ve never been as happy during a December as I feel so far in this one.

dear me, boy have you fought a hard fight this year. and for that i apologise. i never meant to make it tough for you. you were never fighting against the enemy - you were fighting yourself. i convinced you it was right and that there was something worth fighting for. i apologise for turning your mind against you. i gave you no hope of survival this year apart from the words that you ink onto paper before locking away. apart from the escape of being in someone else’s shoes on stage for an hour or two and even then the joy that once came with such activities disappeared. i’m sorry i let you believe that you weren’t worth that love. you weren’t good enough for that crush you had, you weren’t special enough for familial love and you definitely weren’t normal enough for platonic affection. most of all you were never worth the love that flows from your heart in a never ending stream waiting for someone to push it back so you feel that heartbreak - letting it creep into every crevice, cementing the fact that you were unlovable. i was wrong. i was lost in the darkness that clouded my sight and turned my living days into the same nightmares i saw at night. that took away the joy and light of dreams and replaced them with a void of empty space as the violent thoughts corrupted my nights as well. i am sorry. i say it a lot to others, to the animals and even to the world we live in but i don’t say it to you. i have hurt you. more that anyone else possibly could have. i look back upon this year and i wonder when the hope lighting the way disappeared. the once ignited flame was lost in the shadows and there was no room for it in the self-pity i shrouded you with. dear me, the new year is almost upon and i want to be better for you, help me be better.

The best of people is the one who is most helpful to the people.
Prophet Muhammad [ﷺ] | Sahīh al-Jāmī’ (No. 3289)
One of those days that give you a preview of the next season, the year’s next chapter. Very cool. Cloudy then clear then cloudy again, windy. The tang of late fall is on the air. Some of the racing clouds are winter purple. The reassuring summer blue sky is right behind them. Still, once you see those clouds, you recognize their color and remember. Cold rain lives in that color; sometimes even snow. Walking out the door you take a light sweater with you. Or if you decide not to, a few minutes later you’re buttoning up your shirt. Out on the street dogs are friskier, walking faster. The slow paws and floppy tongues of yesterday are gone. The ice cream parlor is only half full for the first time this month. Windows in many of the passing cars are rolled up. Tomorrow summer will return but today is an hors d'oeuvre of the meal to come.

Don’t look up to buildings, how they stand tall and proud with their luxury and concrete, yet can never go back to their own feet once it’s ruined. Be one like nature instead. Nothing could stop a flower to rise no matter how many times it touches the ground, how forests will always be reborn with every fire that grubs it. No man can make a mountain bow, or take down stars unless it meant to fall, no river’s course can be changed. Be as relentless and gentle and fierce.

1. Time does not heal. Time makes you forget and does a good job of making memories blurry. Take healing into your own hands - don’t wait for someone else to do it. 2. Do not waste your I love you’s. The more you flaunt the word around to people you’ve just met and early lovers, the less it will mean when love really hits. 3. Create a list of things you want to do in life. I’m not talking about going to see the northern lights or visiting Hawaii. The little things that can be easy to accomplish such as: trying caviar, painting your room, and trying that new sushi place. Checking off the little things in life is the best self-esteem boost. 4. Always take the high road. If you’re working with rude people or someone has done wrong to you, do not stoop to their level. What’s goes around will come back around. Trust me. 5. Offer to help. People appreciate someone that genuinely wants to give a helping hand whether it’s setting the table or carrying heavy boxes. 6. Stop being hard on yourself. Who cares if you did not get an A on that test? Does it matter if you embarrassed yourself at lunch the other day? Move on. We’re only human. 7. Read more. 8. Be open minded. People who can not see past their own opinions do not go anywhere in life. 9. Accept your flaws. 10. Invest in yourself. Buy yourself that new art set, or new shoes, or order some good take out. The little things in life are often over looked, but they add up in the best ways.

I stopped holding on to people. I stopped revolving my world around them. If they stay, great; and if they don’t, others will come along and replace them, just like others would replace me.

My mother said to always keep my happiness to myself, to never whisper it to others. People will evil eye you, even if they don’t mean it, even if they love you, even if they have beautiful souls, she said. They can’t help the evil that resides in them, so protect yourself. Remain silent.
Oh Allah forgive me for every second in which I was not in your remembrance. Ameen

it’s okay to not have all the answers; things don’t always work the way you plan, but that doesn’t mean you were wrong - try your best to look for another way or another perspective when you’re ready, and you can try again
