Meet Your Meat
This is my second project during my final year of my course in 2012 - my final graduate project which merged two of my passions together: animal welfare and Interior Architecture. Below is a brief Synopsis.
This research project aims to look at the social tensions in factory farming by bringing the consumer back into contact with the farming and manufacturing process through an urban āeating machineā. Here; the presently distinct systems of animal consumption and processing are brought together through an urban farmers market, installation, butcher, restaurant and integrated cooking workshop.
Situated within the South Wharf cargo sheds; the site shares an intimate connection to the surrounding precincts from an animal consumption standpoint. Focusing on the first three stages; the resulting proposition aims to break the disconnection between animal and manufactured product by eliciting embodied empathy with the animal to facilitate a deeper appreciation for the meat we consume and encourage informed consumer choice.
