Dream academy was scary, too unfamiliar. When signing up for the program you felt as if you had signed up to fail. The expectation was you had to be perfect, gorgeous, dancer, singer and all of those things you criticised most about yourself. You hated your body, you thought your voice sounded like a fork to a plate and you believed your dancing skills were like a toddlers at best but against your own thoughts your friends insisted you were made for it and so you made the push.
The audition was plain, just your photo, then inserting the dance video and singing video all into one email and hoping for the best. What made you think you were special enough to get into that group?
It seemed silly, although you found yourself silently hoping that maybe you’d have a chance at making your family proud, making everyone proud of you. After all, you never truly were the star you wanted to be. You promised yourself that say you would make yourself out to be something special, different.
The reply came a few months later, you had been scrolling through your phone when an email came in labelled under Hybe, your eyebrows furrowed and your stomach stirred uncomfortably. You sat up and looked at your dog who now whined softly, sensing your discomfort. You pet his soft furry yet large head and hesitantly clicked in the notification.
You sent in an audition a few months ago under the hope you would be one if the few girls globally that would proceed to training. We the Hybe and Geffen scouting staff believe you would fit in perfectly—“
That was all you could read before you screamed as loud as possible, your dog began barking excitedly as your mom ran the room, her eyes filled with fear.
She slowly went silent as you stuck the phone in her face. The joy you felt as you watched her face shift from fear to happiness to shock and then to excitement only made you more giddy. The scream she let out probably rang through the neighbourhood. Well who cares, it was time to celebrate!
Moving to LA wouldn’t be easy. You knew that, but you were just hoping the struggle would be worth it.
The second you stepped through those doors eyes fell on you and small awkward waves were exchanged, everyone was still settling in.
You were about to start hauling your stuff up the stairs all by yourself when a pale girl with black hair stopped you and took one suitcase from your hands.
“Let me held with that yeah? My name Megan by the way.”
She said softly, a small smile gracing her face. A smile subconsciously formed on your face as you thanked her timidly and you both began pulling the suitcases up the stairs.
It wasn’t long before you got to your room, it was smaller, meant to be shared between two people. You and—
“Wait are you in that room? Me too!”
Megan beamed, her silent yet kind attitude disappearing into a bubbly and gleeful girl, a smile tugged at your lips once more as you nodded, she squeaked happily. You spoke softly, almost afraid of your voice.
“I guess we get some extra time together now.”
Megan only nodded happily. The rest if the day went smoothly, she helped you unpack before you both trailed down the stairs to meet the girls who were kind yet still timid.
Months had passed, reaching the year mark, and you had found your person, your safe place.
Over the months megan had burrowed her way into your heart and built herself a cozy home in there. What scared you was that you didn’t mind, you who hated excessive physical touch found yourself in Megans arms on multiple occasions. She had become your best friend, your life line, and your secret crush.
You found shame in the realisation that she wasn’t just a fan to you, rather someone who blurred the lines between friendship and more.
The realisation dawned on you during a particularly rough day, your family was being tough on you, and training was getting so hard. You had been there everyday, working past hours and doing your best to prove yourself to everyone, but it ended up slapping you right in the face.
Today was supposed to be normal rehearsal, you had just sat down for which break next to Megan, your vision was getting dotty. You knew this feeling all too well.
Your hand quickly went to Megan as you squeezed desperately, a silent noise rumbling in your throat, she glanced at you and before she could respond your head had fell against her shoulder, slipping. She smiled abit but when realising your hand became limp in her own she began panicking.
“Hey— are you? Oh my god, oh my god! Someone call staff!”
Megan yelped as she pulled you into her arms, cradling you against her chest.
You woke up maybe a minute later to the soft panicked taps of Megans fingers to your cheek, you quickly sat up and swayed, she held you closer.
“You idiot— what did i say about overworking yourself?!”
Megan muttered as she stroked your hair, your voice crawled deeper into your throat unwilling to come out and so you just huffed softly into her shirt.
You found yourself back in the dorm after you woke up, with Megan right next to you, one arm holding you tight as she scrolled her phone. Your heart fluttered. She took the time to bring you here and take care of you? Thats when you knew you had fallen too deep, you had fallen in love.
It was no secret that Megan had feelings for you too, or at least it wasn’t a secret to everyone in DA but you. She was always attached to your hip, always complimenting you, always speaking about you.
Till the day all came crashing down breaking the barrier between reality and desire.
You both had been sat in the dorm, cuddled into each other after a particularly rough day to seek comfort in eachothers warmth when you heard her quietly begin, her voice uncertain. She must’ve thought you were asleep.
Megan mumbled into your hair as she kept her arms wrapped around your soft waist, caressing the smooth skin.
“Maybe you’ll like me too.”
She muttered, her voice quieter than before, you shifted to look at her. Her face immediately dropped, her heart dropping to her ass as she scanned your face.
“Did you just wake up or were you awake that whole time?”
She meekly asked, her voice giving away the immense anxiety crushing her. You blinked sleepily and let a hand fall to her face, stroking it gently as if she were fragile.
“I like you too y’know? You just can’t take a hint.”
You said, voice still rough from sleep. Your eyes locked on her face and then her hand slipped around your neck and pulled you closer and closer, until your lips brushed. Your breath hitched and you both were quick to press each others lips together. It felt surreal, so fucking right. Your lips fit just right against her own. That night would mark the day Megan became your girlfriend, your rock.
Of course the relationship had its bumps, but it had made it a year! To the finales of dream academy. It had come all the way to the very last day, which you spent being glammed up and making promises to Megan to keep in touch if the selection wasn’t in your favour.
The day had gone by so quick before you knew it, you all stood in front of the large crowd, cameras everywhere streaming the event live. The last votes had been tallied hours ago. You almost felt sick. What if you were right? What if you weren’t meant for this like you had thought two years back. What if you didn’t get chosen? Your friends were watching. What if you truly were a disappointment.
Megans gaze landed on you as the man across from you all began speaking, his voice was drowned out by your thoughts and Megan noticed, yet she could only do so much on a stage.
“The first member making their dream inti a reality is from the PhillipInes, Sophia!”
You were happy for them, of course you were, cheers were erupting from all sides of the room making the experience oh so overwhelming and yet you still managed to cheer for your close friends, yet you could only think about how there was only two spots left. One was undeniably Megans, but for you? Oh god.
Your thoughts vanished as you heard her name, your heart swelled with pride and love, you have her a big supportive grin as she trembled and began crying, the legs carrying her no linger as stable as she walked across the stage and into the other girls arms.
The last name, one last spot, one last chance.
The name rang in your ears, you felt her arms weakly around you and you weakly patted back before watching her run to the other girls, your thoughts rushed through your head so loud you couldn’t hear, your gaze fell to your shoes. Two years and you failed everything you wished you could succeed.
Megans eyes widened as she heard the name, she was already crying as she saw your face blank and the way your gaze dropped but her thoughts were cut off by the man only a few feet away from her.
“Just in by judges, one last member!”
You couldn’t hear him speak, tears were dripping down your face, too caught up in what you thought was a loss when you heard a burst of cheers and someone shaking your arm.
They whispered as they pushed you towards the other girls, you stumbled slightly, confusion crowding your face before you felt a familiar pair if arms latch int you which followed suit by another 6.
The rest if the time on stage was a blur, you collapsed into Megan as soon as the cameras couldn’t reach you, sobs wracking your body as she rubbed your back.
“We did it Mei. We really did it.”
You whimpered, she nodded, sniffling as she kissed your cheek.
Till this day, were you signed albums and sang in large venues, you still couldn’t believe you did it with her. With your Megan.
It all felt so surreal, didn’t it?
