Hair loss can appear in many different ways, depending on what's causing it. It can come on suddenly or gradually and affect just your scalp or your whole body:
Gradual thinning on top of head. This is the most common type of hair loss, affecting people as they age. In men, hair often begins to recede at the hairline on the forehead. Women typically have a broadening of the part in their hair. An increasingly common hair loss pattern in older women is a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia).
Circular or patchy bald spots. Some people lose hair in circular or patchy bald spots on the scalp, beard or eyebrows. Your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
Sudden loosening of hair. A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. Handfuls of hair may come out when combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging. This type of hair loss usually causes overall hair thinning but is temporary.
Full-body hair loss. Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows back.
Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp. This is a sign of ringworm. It may be accompanied by broken hair, redness, swelling and, at times, oozing.
There are a number of contributing factors like:
STRESS: THE HAIR FALL CAUSES YOU NEVER KNEW Emotional well-being is very important and is linked to many illnesses including hair fall. Stress is one of the factors which is a key to hair fall problems, making it one of the biggest reasons of hair loss. However, hair fall due to stress is not permanent. It is a recoverable and tiding over ones stresses will be the an ideal hair fall solution.
STYLING: Flat irons, curling tongs, and blow dryers may improve the appearance of hair temporarily but their regular use can cause permanent hair damage. The heat from these styling tools not only absorbs all the moisture from the hair but excessive use can also cause damage to the hair follicles and scalp, making it another reason of hair loss. Reducing heat styling and letting your hair bask in its original glory can be a solution to lessen your hair fall problems.
DIET: Not known to many, hair fall problems can also be caused with lack of protein in diet. Deficiency of food rich in iron and vitamin B leads to hair fall. As your hair doesn’t get enough nourishment, it weakens and tends to fall. Diet plays a key role when it comes to strengthening the roots. When the hair roots are strong the hair follicle is strong and hence less hair fall problem.
AGING: As we all age there is senescence in all cells of the body and hair cells are one of them which show sign of aging with reduced growth, weaker strands and hair thinning. There is also greying of hair follicles with age. The regeneration potential in which falling hair fibres (catagen) hair are replaced with growing new hair follicles (anagen) hair reduces. While greying can be camouflaged using hair dye/ colour, hair fall is one thing that cannot be covered. Science has evolved and new hair loss control treatments like hair transplantation and hair weaving/ synthetic hair implants are available, but the maintenance of these is expensive and they do not guarantee a permanent solution.
MEDICATION: Hair fall is a common side effect after some allopathic medication. Hair fall caused to medication can be temporary and is reversible. This generally happens due to reduced growing follicles and a large number of follicles convert to shedding hair follicles causing sudden, severe hair fall. This hair loss takes time to grow back any many times the recovery is not complete.
CLOGGED SCALP: A healthy scalp has a great part to play when it comes to hair growth. Sweat and dirt can clog the follicles and create an unpleasant environment, stagnating hair growth, and it becomes a reason of hair fall. If one doesn’t maintain a healthy scalp, hair fall problems are unavoidable. Hair fall control remedies like DIY masks which person use on their own are one of the leading causes of a clogged scalp.
