Wouldn't normally go for something with Slime and Hot Dog attached together so closely but in this case Will Archer, aka Slime has given another phenomenal peak into his upcoming album, Company. The London-based producer delivers a vibed layered R&B filled rhythm with smooth soulful female vocals that just floats effortlessly, feeling fresh even after the 10th listen.
Perfect and haunting.Â

Introducing The Night VI, whose exposed acoustic sounds and 70s aesthetic, establish a fresh and timeless quality to their music.
Liverpudlian trio, Hooton Tennis Club, have signed to Heavenly Recordings and been hooked up with Bil Ryder-Jones to start focusing on writing new material. The new single 'Jasper' set to be released on February 23rd, feels effortlessly quintessentially Bristish. Full of lo-fi classic guitar chord changes and heavy lidded-drumming, the track has that Made in England stamp on it. With hazy vocals about art museums and the weather, it feels like a revived 90s tracks that of course is infectionally catchy. Warm bassline, gritty guitar solos, it's a lovable rogue.Â
Sydney-based artist Nick Hill is currently pretty unknown but is set to make waves after releasing his EP, 'Rut' on Yes Please Records. 'Know this' is a wonderfully moody piece of deep synths wrapped around immersive and hypnotic percussion. The looping soulful lyrics that linger and deliver effortlessly into the steady synchronised beat make this a great first single. Â
Swedish producer, 1987 revealed this part dance floor hit and down tempo ballad last year. There's an element of odd affection throughout that dislocates the listener into a dreamy reality however is brought back with powerful building drumbeats and chirpier syths.Â
Secretive Irish producer, Mmoths, last year released the phenomenal ‘Yago’. The track is an intensely diverse selection of electronica, mixed through deep driving beats for an epically dense mythical melody.Â
This has to be one of my absolute favourites from Mmoths who seems to be able to produce some of the most mystifying electronic compositions, that fuses together ambitious drops with illusive choral vocals for a sweeping musical excursion that turns into a timeless listen.
The mysterious Silk Cinema is a 22 year old singer songwriter from Birmingham who only last week released ‘Hope’ on Soundcloud.
The sound in short is a bubbly pop track but there’s something so uplifting you have to give it more than just the one listen. With a combination of smooth electronic production, a smoky soulful voice and glories floaty ambiance beats her debut is just beautiful.
Originally music teachers from the South West, Honne came to light with their debut, ‘Warm on a Cold Night’ early last year with smooth enlacing R&B guitars and soul enriched vocals making them an act to really standout from the crowd. Since then their new track, ‘All in the Value’ surfaced late last year but only now, premiered on Nowness with the occupying video.
‘All in the Value’ is a luxurious infusion of R&B husky vocals echoing that of Frank Ocean with a glistening bass and guitar settling on, what starts of a mellow affair and then transitions into forceful emotion filled guitar solo.
With some tracks the meaning and story of the song is sometimes hard to grasp but Honne examine the high and lows of the finishing moments of a relationship, something we all tackle at some stage. The video truly gives these words physical empowerment as once lovers embrace only to release that the value is lost.
Back in October Lapsley signed to hugely respected XL Recordings whose roster holds some of the most creative and achieving artists around. With this, and her most recent single ‘Falling Short’ flooding the Radio One airwaves, Lapsley has become one of the most talked and blogged about artists to watch in 2015 while also being shortlisted for the prestigious BBC Sound of 2015 which will be revealed on Friday.
To start 2015 off Lapsley released her new EP; Understudy delivering a sophisticated, smooth style of alternative electronic pop. While opening with the phenomenal ‘Falling Short’ the next three tracks illustrate her originality and instantly recognisable sound. ‘Brownlow’ is a minimal mellow track with swerves of electronic beats, while ‘8896’ delivers quick vocals intertwined with soft melodic piano and a driving beat. Ending with ‘Dancing’, a complete contrasting track demonstrating a heated dance floor storyline, full of dynamic tones and synths.
We’re not even past the first week of 2015 but already it’s going to be an exciting one for Lapsley!
UK duo from the Lake District, Aquilo, are promising to have a huge 2015 after their first two brilliantly written EP’s, which included debut single, ‘You There’ and most recently, the emotive ‘Human’, featuring production from SOHN.
A highlight from ‘Human’ includes the exceptional concluding track, ‘Losing You’. A combination of dreamy orchestrated instruments with emotion filled violins and passionate lyrics, the track feels as original as the first listen each time.
Music duo Oh Wonder have been releasing a song a month in the run up to their album release in September. With the New Year upon us 'The Rain' is the first of 2015 and is filled with warm harmonies, immersive instrumental and beautiful longing lyrics. With one release a month it’s extremely exciting to see what Oh Wonder will be producing.
The Acid unites three artists from three countries into a genre-less music project. Released earlier in the year this has to be a personal favourite from 2014 alongside the extremely beautiful and memorising slow motion video to accompany.
Basic Instinct is an entanglement of intimate layered vocals from Ry X, which linger and encase gentle harmonies with stripped back acoustic guitar and percussion. The dismemberment of minimalist electronics and haunting vocals enrich a sound and creation that develops into eruptions of sharpened drum beats and a harsh electric guitar quite the opposite to the first few minutes of the track.
The accompanying video full of surrealism and magic has the epic back drop of the Santa Monica Mountains while Los Angeles dance group, WIFE create dramatic leaps and bounds into space that are slowed down for a visually confusing and abstract interpretation of the song.
