[GUIDE] HOW TO GET LEGALLY AND BUY D.GRAY-MAN NEW CHAPTER (30/01/2026)
Hello everyone,
With the new D.Gray-man chapter release yesterday, I received a lot of questions on how to buy the chapter to read it legally.
Buying the chapter is the best way to support Hoshino Katsura and D.Gray-man. You may not know, but in Japan, a popular manga can get axed if the sales are too low, so it's absolutely essential to buy the magazine.
You get the chapter at the exact time of its release. No need to wait for the raws to come out!
You support directly the author and the series
It only costs around 700¥, so less than 4€! And it's only once every three months!
So, how to buy it ?
I personally use an app called "Bookwalker", made by KADOKAWA, a famous editor in Japan. They have an app and a website.
1)Download the "Bookwalker" app on PlayStore/Apple store
You can also go to their global website (In English!) :

Their global website and application is in English, so it is very easy to navigate through.
2)Create an account
You can use your Google or Facebook account to get in, or create your own Bookwalker account.
(I am using the JP version but the global version is in English)
Enter your informations, and now, you have an account! Everything is in English, it should be easy.
I strongly advice you to also enter your paiement informations right away, you'll understand why later.
3) Look for SQ.RISE (the D.Gray-man magazine)
⚠️Here is the tricky part.⚠️
The chapter won't come out if you just tap "D.Gray-man" on the research bar. You have to look for "SQ.RISE", the magazine in which D.Gray-man is published.
SQ. RISE is only available on the Japanese version. Yeah, I know. It's stupid. BUT, you have access to the JP version with your global Bookwalker account. It just means the site will be in Japanese

In the research bar, look for "SQ. RISE".
Then, you'll arrive to this page :
When you click on the magazine, you'll have all the recent issues appearing. Just click on the one you want (the latest one is on the left!)
4) Buy the magazine
Click on the "今すぐ購入" (buy now), on the left. The right option is "put it in the cart", if you wanna keep on shopping more.
Beware, if you click before the release time, you'll get this screen :
"予約する" means "to pre order". If you click on that screen, the magazine will download automatically the moment it releases.
5) Payment
Time to pay! Click on the middle option "全額登録したクレジットカードで今すぐ購入" (pay everything with credit card)
As you'll have noticed, you're on the JP version of the website, so everything is in Japanese. That is why I strongly advise you enter your credit card informations on your English account so you don’t have to do it in Japanese when you buy the magazine.
And now you have bought the magazine!
6) Reading time!
Click on "Read now" (読む) to read it from the internet page or "Read in the app" (アプリで読む) to read it on the application !
Now, you'll have the magazine!
When you open the magazine, on the second page, you'll have the summary, so you know on which page is D.Gray-man new chapter!
For instance, on this picture, D.Gray-man is page 453.

On Thursday, October, 23th, Hoshino sensei was on live for one hour on her stand.fm account. She talked a bit about D.Gray-man, the new SQ. RISE cover, the exclusive Lenalee card or some upcoming events. Here is a translation/sum-up of the parts which could interest D.Gray-man fans.
There is no spoiler, so please feel free to read!

And if you buy SQ.RISE at Animate, you’ll get a special card of Lenalee-chan. I think it turned out super cute. Honestly, I think I put the most effort into Lenalee’s card compared to Allen, Kanda, or Lavi (*Lavi’s card hasn’t been released yet). Why, you may ask? Because I wanted to draw Lenalee the most (laughs).
You might wonder, “What’s the main theme of those cards?” Well, I wanted to represent their burden… or rather, their fate? But the word “fate” feels kind of cringe (laughs). To put it simply, I wanted to express each character’s background while leaving hints about their future.
Obviously, each character has a theme. For Allen, I was inspired by the theme “life/nature.” For Kanda, it’s “water.” And this time, for Lenalee, it’s a bit similar to Allen, it’s not really about life, but I drew her as an angel. For Allen, it’s life born from nature or plants, and for Lenalee, it’s angels.
And yes, the next one coming is him (laughs). I’m still pondering how I should do it.
Honestly, the one I wanted to draw the most was Lenalee, and I feel like I’ve reached my peak, so for me, this series is over (ahaha).
I’m sorry to say this… but the solo covers are over. Until now, I was drawing each character separately, but now, it’s over (laughs) But please, let me explain: I’m NOT the one who ended it (laughs). It’s my editor’s fault. He was like, “Hmm, maybe we’ve done enough. Let’s make something different…” and I went, “What??? No Tyki???” (laughs). Because I was totally ready to draw Tyki! After all, after Road, it should’ve been Tyki’s turn, right? So yeah… but no Tyki, everyone (laughs). Sorry, it ended a bit abruptly.
II. ABOUT SQ. RISE COVER
Note : So, we have discovered this afternoon it's Lavi and Allen, but at the time of the stream, the cover was not out yet...
I don’t know when I’ll be able to talk to you about the cover, so I’ll explain it here.
So, it’ll be a REALLY different cover. For the solo covers, I didn’t get any instructions from the magazine cover designer—I was totally free to draw whatever I wanted. But this time, I received about three drafts from the designer, and he asked me to pick the one I liked best. We discussed it a bit, and then I sent them a draft I made after seeing their proposals. The editors loved it and approved it right away.
You’ll see, it’s really different from what I’ve been drawing recently. Maybe you won’t get it right away, but it’s a very simple one. Until now, I’ve been drawing bright and colorful covers, but this one might seem a bit plain at first. I’m sure the people who like this kind of thing will love it.
Maybe I’ve never drawn him on a Rise cover, or wait, no, I did draw him once already.
Actually, there are two characters on the cover. But when I think about it, until now, I’ve never drawn a cover featuring those two characters together… have I? Hmm, usually it’s Kanda and Allen, right? But I’m sorry, I can’t do it anymore. Every time they say, “Please draw Kankan,” and I’m like, “I think we’ve had enough of Kankan!” I’m so fed up with hearing “Kankan” here and “Kankan” there. So this time, no Kankan (laughs).
So yes, it’s the first time I’ve drawn those two characters together like this. Please try to guess who they are… I think it’ll be revealed tomorrow.
Actually, I drew this cover thinking it would be easy to make merch out of it (ahaha). I expect it to become merchandise at Jump Festa (ahaha).
Also, I wanted to tell you: I’m really looking forward to next year. There are some things coming…! I’m just worried I’ll finish in time. The more I talk about it, the more tired I feel (ahaha). Will my work ever end? (laughs) But yes, please look forward to the announcement.
III. About the Stars festival at Animate
And the Stars Festival starts Saturday! (*The Stars Festival is an Animate event with exclusive D.Gray-man merch.) Please enjoy it, it’ll be the first and last time you’ll see the characters wearing such outfits.
Let me tell you: I feel SO frustrated that I drew Kanda the best (laughs). There are Gemini, Leo, and Capricorn, right? At first, I thought it would be easy-peasy to draw Allen and Lavi because their constellations are simple, and I was worried about how to draw Kanda. I was like, “Gemini? Gemini? How on earth do I represent Gemini?” I looked it up online but thought, “I can’t draw naked twins!” I had no pattern I could use.
For instance, to represent Capricorn, I thought about giving him a lower body like a mermaid and an upper body like a goat, you see? That was easy to figure out. But Gemini??? What was I supposed to do? Draw Kanda naked? Make him wear only a skirt, topless? I was desperate. But in the end, Gemini’s outfit turned out the best. Arghhh, I can’t anymore. I drew Kankan the quickest while thinking, “You… you bastard,” and the worst part? It suits him. At first, I thought it would never suit him, I was racking my brain for ideas, but once I started drawing, everything went really well.
The hardest one was Allen, yes. And have you noticed? Lavi-chan has something in his hair. I tried to make Lavi-chan a bit sexy. His clothes are simpler than the other two. In D.Gray-man, since Lavi is from the Bookman clan, he usually wears extravagant clothes, right? That’s part of the clan’s identity. But this time, I wanted to change that and make him simple. I think Lavi’s beauty stands out more in simpler clothes. I don’t want him to wear, you know, frills and stuff like that ebi-furai scarf. I mean, the ebi-furai incident is literal trauma for me. When I think about it, my parental instinct screams to protect him...I just want to erase that ebi-furai scarf. I know it happened like what… 20 years ago? But I still have PTSD (laughs).
Allen was the hardest. He also has the most extravagant outfit, with a lot of details. But you know, he’s the main protagonist, so I knew they’d put him in the middle. I wondered how I should draw him...Lavi took all the sexiness, Kanda has that darker aspect, so yeah, I had no choice but to choose green for Allen.
IV. About next year...?
As you can see, I had a lot of trouble with this project. But let me tell you: right now, I’m working on something EVEN WORSE. It’s a project for next year, and I think I’m going to struggle more with this one than with the Stars Festival. I’ll start drawing later. And when I’m done, I’ll rant about it live, okay? (laughs) There are so many events, I can’t even keep track anymore. But honestly, it’s not the dates that matter, I’m just so busy with deadlines that I have no idea about the schedule. Anyway, I’ll do my best.
