The subtitle file for the second MDZS stage play is finally here! I'm thrilled to announce that this time, the subtitles are a collaboration with the lovely Peony, who reached out to me and was kind enough to send me the Yi City arc subs she had previously done for personal use. [ENG Subs DL] Tales of the Stage ~Justice of Light and Shadow~
Hello, hello! Like @goldentigerfestival has teased, we have been hard at work the past few months making subtitles for the Tales of Vesperia stage play~! I've dipped a foot into the Tales series before, but this stage was my in-depth introduction to Tales of Vesperia. I definitely learned a lot along the way through conversations with Shi, watching playthroughs, and giving the game a shot.
In any case, like Shi said on their initial preview post, please do not reupload this anywhere. Please only use the link provided and please do not claim the subbed video as your own. I do not normally share hardsubbed videos, but since this was a collaboration project, and Shi has discussed with the raw video provider, we decided to release a hardsubbed version instead. Please follow the no sharing/no reposting rule, and to keep the whole thing lowkey as much as possible.

The worst thing that ever happened to LGBT+ discussions was the attempt at creating rigid definitions for diverse experiences that often exist on a sliding scale, or are fluid. Some lesbians experience attraction to men. Some gay men, who were forced to marry women for their own safety, did really love their wives. Some people are man and woman at the same time. Your gender identity and sexual orientation can change over time. In the 70s it was common knowledge that bi women could also be lesbians. Some people defy categorization just by their existence. Some people choose to reject categorization.

In this line of thinking âlesbianâ isnât an objective pseudo-taxonomic category - itâs a label that people choose to use. Both lines of thinking are valuable, but I think the latter is a lot more useful for community building.
When we view âlesbianâ as an opt-in label, rather than a category that one is born into, the main question that pops up is âwhy do people use this label?â The answer varies, but for most itâs due to an attraction to women and a lack of attraction to men.
However, âwomanâ and âmanâ are categories with a lot of variation within themselves, and very few people can say with 100% certainty that they will never experience attraction to one or the other. If a woman has only been attracted to women her whole life and has joined communities centered around this attraction and has advocated for the rights of WLW, is her lesbian identity negated if she (knowing full well that heâs male) finds a male crossdresser hot? What if sheâs sexually attracted to a few men, but could never be in a stable relationship with one, so she only dates women?
Labels like this need wiggle-room. If they donât allow for some fluidity of experience, only a fraction of a fraction of people would ever find them useful, and the communities built around them would be small, weak, and isolated, and full of nothing but echos.
The older I get, the more I fall on the side of, âThatâs her business, itâs not hurting me.â
And it doesnât. No, it really doesnât hurt me because âthat will make men think that they can convert lesbians.â The men who think that will already think that, and itâs not up to a random person to perform lesbianism (or transness, or⊠) âcorrectly.â That just makes this identity as much of a prison as standard-issue heterosexuality, and no thank you, actually!

What frustrates me is the rigidity in people when you tell them that most things donât fit into neat little boxes. And where people sit on the Kinsey scale can variate depending on different stages of their lives. This is certainly my experienceâmy attraction oscillates like a goddamn see-saw, and my gender identity also oscillates.
I shouldnât have to be looked at like a freak with three heads and asked by a straight(?) person âHow can someone be mostly gay?â like I had just said something homophobic instead of quoting what a guy said about himself.
âWell, no, someone like that is technically bi.â If a guy experiences 90% attraction to men and doesnât think heâll ever be able to last with a woman, itâs frankly none of your business what he chooses to label as.
Personally I don't believe that most people are either complete 0 or 6's on the Kinsey scale, but somewhere in-between, but you'll have a lot of gay people offended at me like I just stole their house instead of wanting the trade off in believing that it's absolutely possible for 0~1 straight folks to fall in love with people of the same sex. :p But this is just my personal belief. I don't think everyone needs to agree with it.

The only thing that changed is that they realised they were capable of attraction to other genders. I have met about 3 people who used to label lesbian end up with boyfriends. It is what it is--listen, the opposite also happens. People who were sure they were straight also end up in same-sex relationships. It's a trade-off, not a hate crime to acknowledge. What you need to do is educate them of that. People should avoid policing others for what label they use. (Unless that person is doing the David Bowie.)
