Downton Abbey’s Allen Leech Will Make U.S. Stage Debut at the Geffen | Playbill

Leech will star in Nick Payne’s Constellations.

Allen Leech, best known for playing Tom Branson in the acclaimed PBS series Downton Abbey, will make his U.S. stage debut opposite Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon a Time, Big Love) in the Los Angeles premiere of Nick Payne’s Constellations at the Geffen Playhouse.

Directed by Giovanna Sardelli (Guards at the Taj), previews will begin June 6 prior to an official opening June 14 in the Gil Cates Theater. The production, which also marks Goodwin’s Los Angeles stage debut, will continue through July 16.

Constellations is the story of Roland, a beekeeper, and Marianne, a quantum physicist. “What are their odds of falling in love?” ask production notes. “With infinite moments that can change the trajectory of a life, it’s anyone’s guess how cosmic collision is possible.”

Is Bellevue the first project you’ve worked on in Canada? Yes! I absolutely loved it. Montreal is incredible. The only thing is, the time they chose to shoot it was coming into December. Night shoots in mid-December wasn’t the most fun I’ve ever had in my life but I have to say, I love the Canadian people and the crew were brilliant.

The wardrobe in the series is much different than that of Downton. Do you miss the costumes? When you get to throw on a pair of jeans and a Henley shirt and you don’t have to spend 45 minutes getting into 1920s black tie, it’s an absolute joy (Laughs). It also takes infinitely less time to put the microphone on as well.

Will your family get to watch this made-in-Canada production? Well, my mom loved Downton because she said “You’re not nude and you don’t swear,” so I don’t think I can show her Bellevue [Laughs].

CBC today announced premiere dates for its winter 2017 television season, featuring distinct, premium storytelling anchored by extraordinary Canadian voices and creative talent. The winter lineup includes five new prime-time titles and five returning series spanning comedy, drama, factual and arts programming.
