Hey All! We’re playing our last show of the year on Saturday at Harvester Performance Center in Rocky Mount, Virginia. The Floorboards and Monster Atlantic will also be on the bill. Jake Dempsey from Summit Sound will be there to record the event. I’m pretty excited to have a live recording of the band that has emerged from that period that followed the release of Salvation In The Ground.

2015 has some big things in store. We’ve been getting songs together for our next studio album. We should start pre production for that sometime in January. There’s a lot more stuff that will be announced in the coming weeks and months, but I’m most excited about these two recordings. Its been a long time since we’ve put anything out and even longer since I’ve written anything I really wanted to put out.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us this last couple of years. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for the love and encouragement you guys give. Even though The Allen Thompson Band has been laying low, this has been a year of musical milestones for me. I know I couldn’t have done the cool stuff I got to do this year without the help of some very dear friends.

I'm going to spend a few days in Austin next week. Mostly I'll be eating In-N-Out burgers and tacos. But I'm also going to be playing a few acoustic shows. If you're down for SXSW and you want to catch some of the new tunes, here's where I'll be:

Thursday March 13:

G&S Lounge 6pm. I go on in between Otis Gibbs and Kevin Gordon! Looking forward to this one.

Saturday March 15:

SXSocialWalrus House Party. 2200 Canterbury St. 2pm. This party is always the most fun. There's a band called the Harmonica Lewinskies playing. Also Banditos, repeat,reapeat, and many more awesome acts.

Sunday March 16:

Giddyups Noon. Part of their unofficial SXSW/Official St. Patty's day festivities. I'm assuming they will have whiskey there.

If you're around, come say hey. I'm trying out a bunch of the new tunes I've been writing. This will be your first chance to hear them in their post-embryonic state. Don't worry, I'll wash them off first.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love a Sad Song

I'm having my morning Redbull (Thanks SoundSelect!) and listening to demos of new tunes. I'm ready to see these songs grow into themselves. They are tunes to be proud of. I'm a little worried that the next record might be kind of a bummer though. Let's look at a few of the titles we've come up with so far: Seasick I'd Rather be at Home River City Blues Think Twice Inconsolable Looking a little dark. But every cloud's got a silver lining. And every silver lining's got a touch of grey. So, you know, we'll get by. By the way, it will be awhile before these songs become an album. So if you want to hear them, come see us. I'll be announcing some solo dates soon & the band will be out here and there in between births and weddings and other monumental life events. Cheers AT

My favorite day of the year is almost here. Can't believe this will be our 3rd annual Last Waltz tribute. The format's gonna be a little different this year. Also this year, all the proceeds from the show are going to Toys for Tots. Come out to the 5 Spot on Saturday November 30 and help us Give Thanks.

So glad I stumbled on this. It really captures everything that inspired me about Lou Reed and everything I'm gonna miss about his presence on this earth. This band wrote for themselves and performed to tell their own story. And they wrote and played their hearts out. If you're not gonna do that, don't bother making music... Seriously y'all, listen to these recordings. These guys (and gal) are wailing.
