Are People Loving Google+ or Hating It? | SEOmoz
Music selection to enjoy while reading this post: Love Me Two Times by The Doors
Quick - who am I describing with these sentiments: great, awesome, interesting, cool, better than Facebook, annoying, boring, stupid...
You got it (and of course the title of the post probbbbably gave it away) - Google Plus (aka Google+ aka Google plus 1 aka the Facebook Killer aka that new Google social thing).
Those terms are just some of the emotions that people have around the product. In a nutshell, people are amped about Google+, as you can see from this sentiment chart that shows positive and negative sentiment for Google Plus over the past few weeks.
But 35% of people talking online about Google+ are doing it on Twitter, followed by 24% on blogs and 16% on social networks, so I have to wonder how many of us talking about it are talking about it because we're /*nerds*/ and #social #media #marketers who can't help but squeal like schoolgirls about good ol', sock-em-in-the-eye-with-the-next-big-thing Silicon Valley rivalry in the hottest online movement since the indoctrination of Web 2.0.
I also can't help but wonder if we GeekTechMarketerNerds are skewing the sentiment, since people I've talked to in the real world (like, not through a computer) have often said "yeah it's cool but now what do I do?"
So what's really behind all of this positive sentiment? Let's look under the hood. Of 5,332 sound bites (aka mentions) expressing positive emotions for Google+, 21% like it and 16% love it. On the negative side, 34% hate it and 19% don't like it (that's from a smaller segment of 736 sound bites).
People who expressed positive emotions other than "love" or "awesome" seem to like it rather lackadaisically with somewhat weak emotions like "interesting", "enjoy", and "cool". The smaller group of people who expressed negative emotions seem to be a bit more ferocious with "hate", "f*ck", "annoying", "boring", "evil" and "stupid".
We can also look at the intended behaviors people have expressed around Google Plus. With Google's need-to-know-someone-in-the-in-crowd invitation-only launch it's only natural that 17% of the positive behaviors were made up of "need" and "want".
Most people are talking about using it, and more people are talking about trying it than switching to it.
Negative behaviors are even more interesting: 21% don't get it, won’t get it or can’t get it, 5% think it's a waste, 8% don't want or need it, and 2% don't trust it. Ouch. But again, the negative sentiments overall were on a much smaller scale, so there are fewer of these than positives.
Lastly, inquiring minds want to know… Is Google+ a Facebook killer? Well, here's what the data tells us: 13% of the positive “likes” about the product are people saying they think it’s better than Facebook, 13% think Google+ makes it easier, and 9% think Google can do more things better than other competitive products. A sign of what's in store or just the sentiment of a bunch of us over-excited geeks? Tough to say.
What does Google still have to work on? An easy way to get an RSS feed seems to be top-of-mind, followed by other technical limitations, their terms of service, and maybe just being a little less scary to some people. Oh, and is it too late to do something about that name...(and their use-your-real-name profile policy)?
Next reports to run...Google Panda?

It’s new. I know. I’m not trying to be a hater. I appreciate what Google is doing and I think Google+ will succeed. It is, however, annoying sometimes to see the breakdown of posts and what they actually do. Still, it’s great to see Tom Anderson back in the mix.

AllGooglePlus has been born
Let me tell you how the idea for AllGooglePlus began...
Today has had me buzz'ing! The social media networks have been going around in Circles today and even some Sparks were reported to have been seen flying. People were attently Huddle'd into the launch of the Google+ project, which seems to be an Instant Upload with the conversations that are flowing through the internets as a result.
I've not as yet received an invite and I have tried to sign up for one, but Google+ invites are evidently as scarce as icebergs on the equator. I've checked out the videos about this innovative project on the official Google blog and I genuinely liked what I saw - check it out yourself.
I can feel that the Google+ project is going to be HUGE guys! Mark my words - it is going to change the social media playing field once again. It is a super innovative project which is going to be popular. I like (millions of) others am only getting a peak of Google's attempt to finally get social media right after several failed attempts - can you say "Waves"... Pfft! Either way, I love Google long time, so I am really excited at seeing how its going to roll out and be adopted by users of social networks around the world.
So that's when the idea to create an unofficial Google+ resource came up and so at 17h00 today - while at work - I registered AllGooglePlus.co.uk and then a few minutes later hooked up this Posterous site (via Android powered app) while having a smoke break. Sweet!
The idea is to build an unofficial Google+ resource via guest bloggers that provide exceptional quality analysis, commentary, guides, how to's, tutorials and resources on the Google+ stable of applications. That's the BIG idea and what I envisage for AllGooglePlus but for now I may just have to keep up with the Google+ project news and reactions over the web due to limited resources and time.
Tonight has bee fun in a geeky way. I've created the hosting package, changed NS records, setup WordPress, created MySQL databases, registered social media profiles and done some design work. After a full day at work and fulfilling my fatherly and husbandly duties, it has been a feat - you'll be amazed at what you can achieve in 4 and a half hours...
For the next couple of nights I'm only going to be able to invest 3 or 4 hours per evening working on it so the kick off may be slow but I hope to spend a productive amount of time getting it sorted over this weekend (time permitting).
So, once again welcome to AllGooglePlus the unofficial Google+ resource.
We've got the site, we've got the Twitter, we're on Facebook and we Posterous - so why not have a Tumblr as well??? Hello.....
This tumblog is where we'll publish our AllGooglePlus unofficial Google+ resources.
Are you on Twitter and Facebook? Connect with AllGooglePlus or simply subscribe to this tumblr.
At the same time, we're looking for contributors and guest bloggers - does that sound like you? Get in touch with us.
Why Google+ is like Rocky Balboa
I loved Rocky movies when I was growing up so as a result I’m going to be referring to Google as Rocky Balboa in this post – if you’re not a Sylvester Stallone fan, please read something else now.
Lets get back to boxing now so you can find out why I say so...
