Sylvia wasn’t scared of ghosts; she talked to them all the time. What she was afraid of was the lack of indoor plumbing at this place. She and a younger boy were locked inside after both of them got left behind looking at a rather creepy painting. The eyes seemed to follow you back and forth and the pair had tested this for a little too long and got separated from the group.
She’d already given the door a few forceful tugs before resigning herself to their fate. “I guess we’re stuck in here for the night. It opens up again at 6AM so…” She looked at her watch. “That’s only about 7 hours.” Sylvia winced; that was hardly comforting. Placing her hands on her hips, she let out a loud sigh. Well, at least they could walk around some more. They were going to need to find a place to hang out for the night and take at least a few short nap despite the circumstances.
“Er, Hokuto right?” Sylvia turned to face him, and gave him a small smile. “This place is supposedly haunted, but I have a feeling we won’t have anything to worry about. I have two backup batteries for my phone, so we should have some light for the whole night I think.” She was pretty self satisfied until the lights illuminating the room currently flickered out as the caretaker continued to shut down the building.
“Uh oh.” She fumbled to get her phone out and turned on the flashlight, quickly realizing the light from her phone was hardly helpful. “Er, well, maybe we’ll just sit in the dark, but if we need to move around we won’t be running into walls.” Sylvia spun around in a circle as she tried to decide what direction to begin walking in. “Hmm, so which way do you think we should go?”
A door suddenly slammed further down one of the halls and Sylvia nearly jumped out of her skin. She scuttled away from the direction of the noise and hid behind Hokuto.
“Ghosts are one thing, but poltergeists are something completely different. We gotta get out of here, like, now.”
while he isn’t much of a believer in the supernatural, the unease of their environment was undeniable. was it the fact that they were alone? was it because of their limited perception? he can’t exactly narrow it down and for once, he wasn’t going to pin point it. of course, disturbed as he might be by their situation, hokuto found no reason to give in the guff talk of ghouls and demons.
❝poltergeists? unlikely. the wind just picked up. ❞
poltergeists were... essentially ghosts that moved objects, right? he wasn’t well versed in the all things paranormal, but he recalls seeing a horror movie or two on the topic.
he wasn’t scared, but more so worried; the trembles in her voice, her shaky stature, he almost feels bad for her. then again, he’s not quite sure why she’s so fearful of something that’s yet to be proven as an actual entity.
fishing out a protective charm from his pocket, hokuto lays it out on his palm for her to take. ❝take this. its a protective charm given by my grandma. i hope it gives you some relief.❞ he nods his head, curtly. ❝if you’re convinced that a spirit will throw something at us, i’ll use my hands and swat it away. don’t worry. ❞
