The Dyersburg March for Babies Event Fundraises to Support Research
A Tennessee professional, Allison Haley Luffman leads the Showplace Design Center in Nashville as regional manager. When she is not overseeing quality control of its granite warehouse and interior design division, Allison Haley Luffman donates her time to the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes helps mothers achieve full-term pregnancies and give birth to healthy babies through research initiatives supported by public donations. Contributions are obtained through fundraising events, such as March for Babies, which occurs multiple times a year. On September 24, 2016, a March of Babies event will take place in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Participants will join each other at Okeena Park to complete one of two events, the 5K Run Baby Run or the two-mile March for Babies. Both individual and team registrations are available. Angel Heart Farms Asks Donors to Contribute Their Time and Money
As regional manager of Showplace Design Center in Nashville, Tennessee, Allison Haley Luffman is responsible for managing the business and dealing with quality control matters. Heavily involved in her community, Allison Haley Luffman is a member of Angel Heart Farms (AHF). Founded in 2001, AHF is a nonprofit organization that uses equine assisted therapy with children facing life-threatening or chronic illnesses. It helps children dealing with myriad of illnesses and cancer, including blood disorders, cystic fibrosis, brain tumors, and liver issues. What sets AHF apart from other facilities is that it works with the entire family, including siblings who may need extra love and support. Since AHF is a nonprofit and does not charge anyone to ride, it relies heavily on volunteers and donations to fulfill its goals. It seeks on-site volunteers to help with doing barn chores, working with kids and their families, and brushing the animals. It also encourages people to spread the world about the organization through social media and face-to-face contact. In addition, donors can sponsor a courageous child for $150 so that the boy or girl can receive their own pair of riding boots and helmet. Not only does this ensure the child’s safety, but it makes him or her feel like a real cowboy or cowgirl.
March of Dimes Prematurity Awareness Month
During Allison Haley Luffman’s off-hours from her job as regional manager of the Showplace Design Center in Nashville, Tennessee, she has spent time volunteering with the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes is a global organization that has focused on preventing birth defects and infant mortality for decades. Since 2003, the March of Dimes has featured the Prematurity Campaign to raise awareness and find the causes of premature birth. Allison Haley Luffman, along with others, partners with the March of Dimes to help the organization save lives. The incidence of premature births has declined steadily over the last several years. Though the decline has been encouraging, 380,000 babies are still born pre-term in the United States. In fact, pre-term birth has become the nation’s No. 1 killer of children. Those who survive are more at risk for serious health issues later in life such as cerebral palsy, vision and hearing loss, and intellectual disabilities. The March of Dimes has set aside November as Prematurity Awareness Month, a worldwide initiative intended to create awareness and urgency surrounding the issues related to pre-term birth. Those who have experience with this issue can participate in Prematurity Awareness Month by visiting facebook.com/worldprematurityday (November 12), where they can post stories and pictures of pre-term babies they love. The stories give others an opportunity to learn about prematurity in a more personal way.

A nonprofit based in Nashville, Tennessee, Hands On Nashville (HON) seeks to address critical issues facing the community through volunteer work. Every year the organization connects thousands of volunteers to opportunities in urban agriculture, public education, home energy savings, and more. Becoming a HON volunteer is easy. Interested individuals should visit www.hon.org/Become_a_volunteer to start the application process, which is completely free. Prospective volunteers must first make an account by clicking on the green Create an Account button. Using this account, they will be able to sign up for an activity through the Find an Opportunity calendar. Spring Break Volunteering at Hands On Nashville
A regional manager at Showplace Design Center in Nashville, Tennessee, Allison Haley Luffman contributes to business growth and development by utilizing sales reports and gauging departmental results. In terms of charitable work, Allison Haley Luffman contributes to Hands On Nashville, a volunteer organization dedicated to serving communities in Middle Tennessee. Hands On Nashville operates a number of special programs, such as the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC), which comprises young people ages 11-18 from across the Nashville area. Every year, YVC sponsors a weeklong Hands On Spring Break program, during which children and teenagers can serve at a wide variety of partner organizations. In 2015, YVC members volunteered for more than 170 hours in the Nashville community. In addition to completing a home energy savings project and refurbishing bicycles for young people, YVC volunteers assisted Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee by sorting food items. Beyond Hands On Spring Break, YVC sponsors similar activities during fall break and the summer months.
Hands On Nashville Day
An experienced interior designer, Allison Haley Luffman always finds time to support her community. Allison Haley Luffman contributes to and participates in causes such as Hands On Nashville. Hands On Nashville will be celebrating Hands On Nashville Day on September 20, 2014.The event establishes a day where community volunteers join together to provide painting and landscaping services to approximately 50 educational institutions in the Metro Nashville Public Schools system. Hands On Nashville Day offers much-needed support that preserves public schools’ budgets. As a result, the schools become a healthier and safer environment for students, faculty, and staff. Volunteers can registers individually or as a group by visiting www.hon.org. A donation is encouraged and rewarded with a limited edition t-shirt that commemorates the day and the volunteer’s participation. On the day of the event, volunteers are asked to meet at their designated schools to begin work at 8 a.m. Following the four-hour work day will be an after party, which will provide lunch to participants and feature a variety of entertainment.
