The Great Hall | Jace & Allie
It was with a pounding head that Allie rose the next morning and dressed. Fumbling her way through a routine that she would have to readjust to, sheâd thrown her hair up into a messy collection and wrapped a band around it before double checking that she had all of her things for classes today.
She made her way into the Great Hall and the Slytherin table, sitting down in a spot randomly once a quick glance confirmed that Jace wasnât there yet. Checking her pocketwatch she noted that she was there slightly early. Sheâd give him a half hour to get his ass down here himself before going to wake him. She grimaced slightly as she reached over for bread and butter, and began preparing breakfast.
Nursing a major headache, Jace slowly made his way downstairs and to the place with the food. Bread sounded heavenly about now, coupled with the pepper up he had taken when he woke up and some aspirin. He sat down heavily beside Allison, wincing as he did so, and reached for his orange juice.Â
â âlo, Alice, luv.â he mumbled.Â
She raised her eyebrows, taking in the state he was in. She felt a tiny bit of guiltâ it was her idea to get utterly and completely pissed after all.Â
âNice shades.â she commented, handing him a muffin and referring to the giant sunglasses that he was sporting to keep the light from his eyes. He couldnât have done anything more than vomit to announce to the world that he was hungover.
âUhn,â he grunted, taking the proffered food and shoving it in his mouth without his usual gusto, his movements ginger and slow. He swallowed, following this display with the entire glass of water. He glanced sidways: sure enough, he caught Allie making a face at him. She didnât think much of his table manners. He couldnât bring himself to be concerned.Â
âDâya feel as good as I do?â he asked.Â
Allie raised an eyebrow. âYou mean pounding headache, nausea, light sensitivity, and an intense desire to vomit? Nope.â she patted him on the back. âTake anything for it?â
âLiar.â Jace muttered darkly, leaning his head on her shoulder and snuggling in close. He breathed in deeply. She smelled nice. âTook some pepper up and an aspirin. Should kick in soon. Otherwise I might die.â he whined.Â
âCanât have that. Whoâd help me through potions? Weâve got that first this year.â Her fingers absently went to the crook of his neck, tracing the muscle that went from there to his cheek and back again. She gave a faint smile as she felt Jace purr somewhere in the back of his throat. Her eyes and attention however were focused towards the Hufflepuff table, where Ted Lupin had just sat down next to a gleeful looking blonde. They were talking animatedly.
âFergusonâs rough, thatâs for sure. Good thing she wants me for my bodyâŠâÂ
When he got no response, not even a huff out of her, Jace trailed off. Say would you would, he knew when the attention was not on him. He debated internally about the pros and cons of opening his eyes and seeing what had caught Allieâs attention before deciding to actually do so. He followed her gaze to the Hufflepuff table, before finally realizing what had captured her fancy. I reckon that sheâd thinkinâ âbout good olâ Ted. Bully for him. He didnât know where the sudden bitterness had come from. He and Ted were good mates, always havinâ a laugh when together. But no matter how much he wouldnât say it aloud, he wouldnât lie to himself. He wasnât sure why, but the thought of Allie being hung up on Teddy Lupin didnât sit well with him.Â
âYou ever going to muster up the courage to talk to him?â he asked finally, voice low so as not to be overheard.Â
It took her a moment to register the fact that Jace was speaking to her. She probably would have remained oblivious if it werenât for the fact that he hadnât left his spot on he shoulder and that his hungover raspy voice rumbled from his voice box as he spoke.
âHuh?â she asked, looking him dead in the eye. âWhat? Who? When? Portugal?â She tilted her head and smiled. âI donât know what you are talking about.â
âCome on Allie, donât lie to yourself,â he said curtly sitting up and scooting away from her. She could be mad frustrating sometimes. âLook, you fancy âim donât ya? Talk to him at least. Be his friend. You never know what could happen. If you donât youâre just going to make both of us miserable this year.âÂ
He swore heâd never know why she was so anti-social, and he knew her better than anyone, even herself sometimes. It didnât make it less frustrating. Allison was a Slytherin. She had goals and ambitions. She did whatever it took to achieve these. So what was it about Ted Lupin that changed this facet of her personality?Â
Jace didnât like it.Â
It took every ounce of her self control and patience to not blow up at him. She had to remember that he was hungover and grumpy and that he just wasn't awake and talking sense and able to stay out of other people's business.
"Lie to myself about what Jace?" She said, slightly tersely. "This isn't a discussion I'm going to be having with you. Or with anybody. Pass the juice."
