Communication
The thing I learned about communication is that communication is a crucial way that allows us to express our feelings and emotions and convey any information we want. Every person is going through communication every single day as it became a part of themselves to live and survive in this world.
I have also learned that communication may be done through oral and written communication, as oral communication allows individuals to communicate by creating sounds using our mouth, lips, tongue, and jaw. For instance, public speaking, reporting, or calling someone. While written communication allows individuals to communicate by writing down anything individuals wanted to convey to others, it can be through a letter if traditionally, and emails if digitally.
Additionally, communication can be formal or informal based on the person's audience. Formal communication is an exchange of information with other people in more structured, appropriate, and understandable words. For instance, formal communication often occurs at meetings, organizational events, educations, and campaigns. However, informal communication is a type for individuals to communicate with other people in more inappropriate and jumbled words. It is mostly common for individuals to normally speak in an informal way of communicating. For instance, when we normally speak and joke around our friends.
Also, communicating with other people is not about the way we speak but also the way we act around them, called nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication refers to the emotion and behavior of a person or the audience on the speakers. The behavior of an audience can affect the speaker's way of presenting information. For instance, if an audience is yawning while the speaker is talking, it is possible that the speaker may expect that his or her audience is getting tired of the topic. Thus, this will affect the speaker's way of presenting words, as he or she might feel negative emotions from any negative response from the body language of the audience.
I have learned that in order to improve our communicating skills with other people, we need to keep practicing the languages we need to speak in order to be fluent in the language we use. We also need to improve the structures of our words in order to let the audience understand the information we want to convey easier.
Here are some tips and practices we could do to enhance our communication skills:
1. Practice makes everything better.
• We could improve our fluency through speaking and our writing by getting feedback from our audience. It could be that by reading things over and over again, we can enhance our vocabulary for understandable words we could use for the audience. We can also enhance our self-confidence, which will improve our public speaking.
2. Be a better listener.
• In order to become a better speaker, one should first become a better listener who can actively listen to a person and understand what they want to convey. This way, once we became speakers, we could use this in order to listen to the listeners feedback about the way we present the information for further improvement.
3. Consider your audience.
• A speaker should always consider their audience to make sure that the information was received by the audience understandably. It can be knowing the audience background in order to take an interest in the topic, interest in order to determine if the topic is their standard, and style to determine if the audience are humorous respondents or not.
4. Structure your words understandably.
• A speaker should practice better structuring the contents of the information they are presenting in order for the audience to understand the given information clearly.
5. Be mindful.
• A speaker should be mindful about the words that will come out of his or her mouth. Consider your audience's feelings before stating something. It may be appropriate for you, but it might be inappropriate for the others.
