He thinks of the time they spent in that hospital sometimes. Both fugitives of their own species. There was an understanding he found in her, lack of judgment, perhaps, that made him feel oddly safe.
“I missed you.” It’s a sentiment she’ll probably scoff at. But it’s the truth, nonetheless.
“Yeah you did.”
With anyone else, that admission would be a weapon. A way to manipulate her, to try and kickstart her shriveled little heart into feeling something. Empathy, sympathy, one of those -athy’s. She didn’t keep count of them, but it seemed like there were a lot.
But her sweet little angel only wielded those kinds of weapons against himself. (Maybe she had a thing for martyrs.)
