Another Eventful Night || Jamie & John
Jamie knew that this challenge of her’s for the time lord could end badly, in either her death or his with the possibility of both. But the Doctor as he called himself, seemed more than willing to walk a day in her shoes which was intriguing to her. So she had dressed him in a sweatshirt, tucked away all of the trappings that caused him to stand out as a time lord, and now they were ready to go back out into the world. “You look gorgeous like this,” she mused as she fidgeted with a lock of his hair. “Not that you didn’t look absolutely stunning in a tuxedo, but dressed down and more like a human…it suits you.” Jamie smirked and pulled out her lipstick, turning to glance into the mirror quickly. “Once I finish here, we can get going.” The thief applied a thin layer of ruby red lipstick, smacking her lips as she looked in the mirror. “Damn, I look even better than you,” she purred. Jamie tucked the small tube into her back pocket before letting out a sigh and shrugging.
The woman followed him outside, using his expertise to make sure that they escaped without a single time lord or lady recognizing that she was human and that she had stolen things. Once they were in relative safety, she stepped back and pulled the time lord into an alley. “Okay a few quick rules, because as you said I might need to tell you to go if it gets to be too much,” she began. Jamie leaned back against the wall and cleared her throat. “First, if at any point you feel like you’re in danger, do not pick a fight yourself. Instead please call it to my attention and I’ll handle it for you. Second, if I tell you to be quiet, I’m doing so for a reason and it might just save your life so you’d be wise to listen t’me,” she added. Jamie put her bag on the ground and stooped down in front of it, pulling out a gun which she showed to him.
“This gun looks real to everyone, and when I threaten someone with it, you better believe that I make them think that it’s real. However it only knocks people out for an hour or so. I might use it and you are not to comment on whether or not I do use it,” she stated as she stood and tucked it into her back waistband. Jamie took the pin out of her hair and tucked it into the pocket of the Doctor’s pants. Her dark brown curls tumbled down past her shoulders and a grin grew on her lips. “That pin I tucked into your pocket may or may not come in handy should we be caught and you need to pick the lock on some handcuffs. I figure it’s better to be safe than sorry,” she mused. Once she had finished explaining the rules, Jamie nudged the Doctor’s shoulder gently so they could leave the alley.
It was about a mile walk to the apartment building that she and Gray lived in, along with a few other families but along the way, Jamie hoped to show the time lord just what it was like to live down here on the streets with the remaining lower class. Humans were treated like dirt by the time lords and part of Jamie sincerely hoped that the Doctor would get a glimpse into just how horrible things were for them. As they walked around the cracked pavement streets, lined with peddlers and people begging for food. “Keep your head down and try not to draw attention to yourself. We need to stop in this place to sell the gems,” she murmured. Jamie took his hand and pulled him into a dimly lit shop that claimed to sell books and old television sets.
“Oi Mickey, get your ass out here. I have a surprise for you,” Jamie called out, ringing the bell on the counter with a smirk. After a moment, a man appeared with a small scowl on his face and a fistful of money. “What do y’have for me Harkness?” He asked, leaning against the counter. Jamie placed the two rubies and a diamond in front of the man, a grin on her face. “I want no less than $800 for them Mickey and if you stiff me, my associate here will make your life very painful,” she stated, glancing to the Doctor. Once Mickey sighed and handed over the money, Jamie manhandled her new friend out the door so that they could get to the apartment and into a safe environment. She shoved the money into her pocket, except for about $300 which she kept out in her hand. While they walked, Jamie began to hand out $10 a person to each of the needy people living on the street, hoping to help some people to eat a little something today. “Bet you thought that I was a pretty selfish person huh? Well m’not exactly rich and I steal from the rich but I do it in order to provide for my family and for the people out here that can’t work. They don’t always have someone to take care of them…and these little children,” Jamie sighed and knelt down in front of a pair of five-year olds. “They need me,” she whispered as they hugged her and she kissed their heads gently.
“Here sweetheart, take $20 and go buy some bread. You two look like you haven’t eaten in days,” she whispered, tucking the money plus a little more into the girl’s pocket. Jamie stood once more and tucked the rest of her money back into her pocket before continuing towards the apartment building. She stopped once to buy a loaf of bread and some cheese, along with a bottle of wine. “C’mon, Gray will want to meet you. He’s always fascinated by the men I bring home,” she smirked and nudged the Doctor towards the building. Once they were inside, she took off her coat, revealing the low cut shirt she was wearing.
”Gray? Are you home? C’mon out, we have a guest.”
The Doctor knew there were many risks associated with proceeded into the world of humans and he'd be lying if he said he was not even a little concerned for his well being, because he was. His species, the Time Lords, believed the humans to be nothing more then bugs in the way of life and that they had been forced to share a planet with, but never treated as equals. However, this man, the Doctor, he believed different and found the human race to be extremely fascinating like perhaps something could be learned from them. He thought them to be caring, gracious, and giants amongst the world not to mention incredibly brilliant even if his people believed otherwise. His fingers tugged at the sweatshirt that Jamie had insisted he wear and he continued to look it over, it was a warm and incredibly interesting piece of clothing, not one he would have believed himself to wear before this day but if it would help keep him alive then he accepted graciously. That was when she began to speak off rules and guidelines so fast he found himself grateful of his own intelligence then. She looked to aid him in staying alive and successfully spending a day in the shoes of a human and he was grateful for that because it was something he'd always wanted to do. However, if they ever knew what he was they would shoot him down dead within seconds, or worse hold him against his own people, torture him for weaknesses, oh the thoughts made his skin crawl. He gave a quick nod when she nudged his shoulder and merely swallowed as a hint of nerves settled in his belly. "I'll keep my head down and I will follow your lead." He spoke quickly while offering a nod of assurance to her and tugging at the sweater so that he brought the hood closer to his spiked up hair and pulled it over himself a bit -- it helped him feel safer. "Mickey -- who's--" he grew quiet when the man she had been calling for hurried out and she proceeded to sell some of the stolen Time Lord merchandise to him for a great sum of money. Now he understood her need for that stuff. It fetched an incredible dollar around here and kept her living in conditions that were near unliveable. He would gladly sneak her more when he returned home, if he ever saw her again when this day was over of course. Perhaps, she wouldn't wish to see him, or maybe she'd kill him after this -- no she didn't seem that way. He followed her as she began to lead the way, "Oh I never thought selfish in my time with you, I thought perhaps desperate for money, not in the sense that you're desperate but... well --" He cut himself off and shoved his palm into his face with a heavy grumble at himself. "I believed you lived a harsh life and were in need of a living income?" He offered watching as she handed out money, "The fact that you share with so many is admirable, most down here may not return such kindness to you." he confessed while lifting his chin a bit and looking back at her. Upon reaching the place she called home she began to call for Gray, who he believed was the brother she mentioned, yes the name rang a bell from earlier conversation. He followed and as she called from her younger brother when they entered the Doctor zipped his lips not wishing to ruining his day by saying anything that may upset her brother. Gray came out stretching and rubbing his face from having been asleep, "What is it? What's -- who do we have as a guest? If it's Mickey tell 'em to go home I was sleep---" Gray stopped and looked to the man. "New boyfriend?" He toyed. Of course his comment caused the Doctor to go red in the cheeks as he looked towards Jamie and shook his head a bit before he began to nod rather confused on how to address this idea of being her 'boyfriend' did she want him to say yes as a cover, or no. Now he just looked like an idiot nodding and shaking his head.
