The New England Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in Super Bowl LIII, to capture the franchises 6th Lombardi Trophy which ties the Pittsburgh Steelers as the only two clubs in the NFL with 6 Super Bowl rings. The latest Super Bowl earned the lowest score in any Big Game as both the Rams and Patriots played a near defensive stalemate. Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick and Quarterback, did what they have done for the previous 17 years of playing together by pounding the ball, wearing down the defense and taking advantage of key moments to score 10 points in the final quarter with the aid of the elusive Julian Edelman, who earned MVP honored for his timely catching of dimes dropped by Brady.
Tiger Woods mounted an impressive march atop the Memorial Tournament leader board this weekend, but his putting skills doomed him down the stretch and he finished with a final round of 72 which tied him for 23rd place. Tiger’s scores throughout the tournament gave glimpses of his past years’ magic as he scored 72/67/68/72. Tiger Woods continues his quest to surpass Sam Snead who maintains the #1 overall All Time Wins; Snead has 82 All-Time PGA Wins while Tiger sits alone in second place with 79. Tiger is also #2 in Majors won with 14; Jack Nicklaus is #1 with 18 Major’s Wins.
Real Madrid defeated Bayern Munich on an Aggregate Score of 4-3 in the 2nd leg of the UEFA Champions League Semi-Final, to advance to their third straight Champions League Final and 4th in five years!!! Los Blancos defeated Bayern by coming from behind in the 1st leg and winning 2-1. In the 2nd leg, Bayern offered stiff defense and an effective offensive prowess to score first but Real willed itself to a win as Karim Benzema made his start in this match count by scoring both Madrid goals; one goal at the 11' of the first half and his 2nd at the 46' of the second half to tie the match at 2-2. Real Madrid is seeking to win it's record 13th UEFA Champions League Championship and it will need the help of all of it's stellar players as the European clubs have made it their mission to dethrone the 12-Time Champions.
The incredible Cristiano Ronaldo continues to add to his already impressive resume by capturing his 5th Ballon d’Or(2nd consecutive) for his super human feats in the 2016-2017 football season. With his 42 goals, Ronaldo helped his team, Real Madrid, repeat as UEFA Champions; the team’s 12th such championship, win a La Liga title, and win a second consecutive Super Cup title. Ronaldo continues to set and surpass the incredible bars that he sets and he continues to establish himself as the Greatest Footballer of all time!!!
Cristiano Ronaldo, the soccer phenom from Real Madrid, capped an incredible 2016 by winning his 4th Ballon D’or, as the best football player in the world.  The year 2016 was truly magical for Ronaldo; he became his club’s all-time top scorer, he became the all-time top scorer in the Champions League, and helped his club to win it’s 11th UEFA Championship.  Ronaldo’s superb skill, alertness, and sheer desire to be the best football player in the world has secured his place as one of the greatest players of all time.
Lionel Messi, the 2015 Ballon D’Or winner and team leader of FC Barcelona, scored two goals in the second half to help his team defeat Arsenal, in the 1st leg of UEFA Champions League Round of 16.  Arsenal’s solid defense kept the Barcelona Amazing Trinity of Luis Saurez, Neymar, and Messi scoreless in the 1st half.  But in the 71st minute of play Neymar sent a spectacular assist to Messi who booted the ball in the back of the net.  It was Messi’s first goal ever against Arsenal goalkeeper, Petr Cech.  Within minutes later, Messi netted a Penalty Kick to assure his team a victory over Arsenal, 2-0.
This is my Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Ballot for 2016.  Ken “"The Kid” Griffey, Jr. should be a unanimous first ballot Hall of Famer and Curt Schilling, who is the only 3000 Strike Out Club member not to be elected into the Hall of Fame, should finally receive his mid today. And Mike Piazza’s record 396 Home Runs as a catcher, will finally get him into the Hall of Fame as well.
Kimmo Timonen and Andre Iguodala each won their first championship with their respective leagues this year.  Timonen won the 2015 Stanley Cup Championship with the Chicago Blackhawks and Iguodala won the 2015 NBA Championship as a member of the Golden State Warriors.  The other fact that both men have in common is that they both played in the same building, The Wachovia Center, as members of the Philadelphia Flyers and the Philadelphia Sixers, respectively. For five years, from the 2007-2008 season to the 2011-2012 season, both players crossed each others path as they performed their individual wizardry to help their teams win a championship.  Iguodala and the 76′ers never made it to a championship game, but Timonen helped the Flyers to reach the Stanley Cup Championship game in the 2009-2010 season, but eventually lost to the Chicago Blackhawks.  Both players toiled together in Philadelphia for five long and arduous years, but it was not until they both left the City of Brotherly Love, that they each attained the highest honor that a sportsman can achieve, winning a professional championship and being called a winner.
The United States Women’s National Soccer Team defeated Japan 5-2 in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup to become a champion for the 3rd time.  Midfielder Carli Lloyd scored a hat-trick to propel her team to victory in a rematch of the 2011 Women’s World Cup in which Japan defeated the United States in penalty kicks.  This year the United States National Team scored early to demonstrate that they indeed wanted the champions crown once again.  Goalkeeper Hope Solo had a fabulous tournament allowing only one goal and provided the necessary stopping power to keep her team cruising against all competitors.  Hope Solo won the Golden Glove Award for the Best Goal Keeper in the tournament and Carli Lloyd received the Golden Ball for the Top Player in the tournament.  The United States Women’s National Soccer team previously won the World Cup in 1991 and 1999.Â
Lionel Messi, of FC Barcelona, dazzled the Camp Nou fans and the world with his football goal-scoring wizardry, by leading his team to a 3-0 drubbing of Bayern Munich in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Semifinal match, on Wednesday, May 6th.  For 77 minutes of their match, both clubs displayed great dribbling control and set up nice plays for each team to score, but the goal-keeping prowess of the best keeper in the world, Bayern’s Manuel Neuer, kept Barcelona from scoring.  In the 77′d minute, Messi scored a fierce goal on an exquisite strike to break the stalemate.  And then in the 80th minute, Messi’s brilliance was on display as he dribbled past defenders, caused one defender to fall down, and scored a chip shot floater beyond the reach of Neuer, to make the score 2-0, and put an exclamation point on a stellar performance.  Neymar scored an equally impressive goal to extend Barca’s lead to 3-0 in the 90+4th minute to seal the deal.
The Football Club Barcelona trio of mega-superstars, Luis Saurez, Neymar, and Lionel Messi, have scored 21, 32, and 49 goals, respectively this season, to catapult their team to first place in La Liga and a scintillating record of 27-3-4. Â These three awesome footballers have their home crowd at Camp Nou excited every time that the ball touches their boots as they are all likely to score a goal at every opportunity. Â Their 102 goals thus far is propelling their team to the apex of their league and the UEFA championships as they are seeking to not only finish number one in La Liga but to also win the Champions League trophy for the fifth time.
Tom Brady, Quarterback of the AFC New England Patriots, lead his team to a startling and momentous win over the NFL Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. Â Brady played a masterful game, despite two interceptions, against the number one defense in the NFL in the 2014 season. He completed 37 of 50 pass attempts for 328 yards a 4 touchdowns. Â His four touchdown throws went to four different receivers on his team and when he needed to, he sliced through the tenacious Legion of Boom. Â Brady set two Super Bowl records in the game; most completions(37) and most career Super Bowl touchdowns(13). Â With those stats, Brady was Super Bowl XLIX MVP for the 3rd time and he won his forth Super Bowl in six visits to the biggest NFL game of the year. Â Russell Wilson and his Seahawks, the defending NFL Champions, came back from a 14-point deficit and were poised to win the game with just seconds remaining on the game clock; but an inexplicable call to throw the ball from a shot gun formation while 1/2 a yard from the goal line with the best running back in the league, Marshawn Lynch, in the back field, doomed Seattle to suffer a devastating loss and watch the Patriots revel in the franchise's fourth Super Bowl Trophy.
