a fanfiction by ryna... about ramsay & her duncan
Duncan held the mistletoe teasingly above his head, dangling it just out of Ramsay’s reach.
She giggled, swiveling around in the desk chair where she perched, legs curled up to her chest. She felt something jump in her stomach that couldn’t be mere dizziness. Even though she always feigned casual friendship with Duncan, she couldn’t deny the excitement that shot through her when he had pulled the mistletoe from his back pocket. They’d been getting to be better and better friends over the past few months, and lately she had been staying three hours after her shift ended to keep him company in the lonely security room, telling her mom that she was at a friend’s house. Old people never posed much of a security threat, and besides, Duncan never minded her presence, and often requested it.
“Why do you have mistletoe, you weirdo?” Ramsay asked. “It’s not even Christmas!”
“Mr. Huston got really confused about the date, and wouldn’t leave the nurses alone until he got some mistletoe and some of those dancing snowmen and shit. Then he had an accident with his walker, which set off all the security alarms, so I had to go to his room and clean up the mess,” Duncan explained.
The story would be entirely bizarre if they didn’t work at a retirement home. But she definitely wasn’t going to complain about the perfect excuse to--
Duncan pushed himself off the desk and looked down at Ramsay thoughtfully. He still pinched the mistletoe between his index finger and thumb, the promise of it tantalizing. Ramsay licked her dry lips nervously.
“You know what we have to do now, right?” He grinned mischievously.
“Uhh, kiss or something?” She would’ve thought of a more clever response but his bright, focused hazel eyes were distracting her.
“Umm. Because that’s corny as fuck, Duncan.”
“Like you haven’t wanted to for weeks.”
“Wow, presumptuous much?”
And then, without further discussion, Duncan was leaning in, touching the back of her neck ever so softly. Their lips met, and Ramsay felt a unique fluttering in her chest. The silent night closed in around them, and Ramsay knew she had never been so happy in her life.
