We need to talk about Reputation’s “Getaway Car”

If you haven’t heard the song by now, “Getaway Car” is the 9th track on Taylor’s newest album, Reputation. The lyrics describe the transitioning of her relationship from American DJ Calvin Harris to British actor Tom Hiddleston, and how she met the latter at the Met Gala (“The ties were black, the lies were white / In shades of grey in candlelight.”). We are told that the relationship with Calvin was on the decline (“X marks the spot where we fell apart/He poisoned the well, I was lyin’ to myself”) and she “wanted to leave him, [but] needed a reason.” Tom became the metaphorical vehicle to transport her away from her relationship troubles (“You were drivin’ the getaway car”), although Taylor warns her listeners early on that the romance would not have any longevity, “We were flyin’, but we’d never get far.” However, as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Tom was blindsided when their romance abruptly ended (“It hit him like a shotgun shot in the dark.”) Basically, Taylor explains to Tom that it shouldn’t have been a mystery how their romance ended, as it was doomed from the start (“a circus ain’t a love story.”) A few realizations here: 1. While Taylor does not take kindly to others cheating on her (see: “Should Have Said No,” “Style,” etc)…she does the same to someone else. Taylor essentially admitted to cheating on Calvin with Tom, and Tom seemingly went along with it. 2. Taylor has sung at length about terrible treatment by past lovers….yet does the same to someone else. In “Getaway Car,” Taylor argues that Tom should have known that he was a fling. And how does she let him know that? By visiting his mother in the U.K., spending time with his family, celebrating Independence Day together, staying with him in Australia while he’s filming…just typical nonchalance for when you want to let someone know that you’re not that interested, ya know? And when rumors surfaced that Tom was the one insistent on being so public with their romance, she “switched to the other side/To the other side.” As in, she didn’t object to this version of the narrative, because they were both guilty of betrayal (“It’s no surprise I turned you in/‘Cause us traitors never win.”) Beyond the breakup, the romance left Tom’s reputation in ruins more than Taylor’s. As if that wasn’t enough, now millions worldwide will be bopping to “Getaway Car,” cementing Tom’s legacy of being “the one who got played.” Even Taylor Lautner got an apology! #JusticeForTom So. While I adore the irresistible tune that is “Getaway Car,” Taylor -girllllllll- how could you play with someone’s heart, game your romance to your advantage, debase his reputation even further, and still sing the line, “all I think about is karma” in good faith? While I love Taylor’s bops just as much as other Swifties, I can’t condone this hypocritical behavior. I hope she found the right one in Joe, and get the karma she deserves.

If, after having studied astrology and his exactly-calculated birth chart, a person for the first time realizes that the sequence of his life-events, which had so far seemed to him utterly chaotic and purposeless, makes sense - if as a result of the study, he is able to feel a direction and purpose inherent in his life as an individual, and how he had been blocking this realization of meaning, orientation, and purposefulness - then astrology is “existentially proven” to be effective in this particular case.

Malefic Planets

Pluto destroys until there is nothing left, until you have to rebuild everything from the broken foundations upwards, moving you on completely in your journey in this life. It is ego shattering.

i have noticed that, no matter why somebody is sad, there is always a specific view on a situation and a specific reason ---here's why the moon signs are usually sad:

Which will express more in your life, the planet placement, or the aspect?

This is my personal hierarchy of what i think are the strongest influences:1. AspectsThe tighter the orb, the stronger the aspect (so a conjunction between planets that are 1º apart will be stronger than that between planets that are 3º apart etc)The dynamic aspects (conjunction, opposition, square) are also stronger than the flowing aspects (sextile, trine)2. Placement of personal planets (sun, moon, mercury, venus, mars) and the ascendant3. House (!) placement of social and generational planets (jupiter, saturn, uranus, neptune, pluto)4. The sign placement of the social and generational planets has a small significance to an individual

Somebody with venus in the 10th wont date someone that is below them in the social hierarchy and makes them look bad or will negatively impact their reputation. Social upwards mobility through relationships.

But in all seriousness, as someone with Venus in 10th, I do notice that I'm more attracted to people in positions of power or authority. I'm not sure if it's a conscious decision to reject those "below my rank" as its an attraction to power/higher social ladder itself.

This might be a weird question but can placements be inherited? I have a Scorpio moon and both of my grandmas do too (which is also weird because it means both of my parents had a mum with a Scorpio moon) and my sister has a Cancer moon like one of my grandads. My mum nor dad have Scorpio or Cancer moon though?

i think parents can subconsciously employ our perception of them based upon their own plan to parenting the child and depending on the mindset the parents were in at the time the child was conceived. my brother’s ex is a nurse and went through 10 years of physiology and psychology and expressed the theory of character from conception (-: its really interesting. maybe if you ask your parents or just hear from other relatives/family friends of what your parent was like at the time or how they wanted to parent you then you’ll have more insight. sounds like both of ur parents had a mom who had quite the relationship with her own mother

I actually think that specific placements, such as of Moon in 8th (inheritance of the mother’s sign/moon placement), Moon in 5th house (strong Cancer/Moon emphasis in child’s chart) or Jupiter in 5th (strong Sagittarius/Jupiter emphasis in child’s chart) increases the offspring’s tendency for certain sign/placement inheritances. For example, my Moon is in 8th house ruled by Cancer, mirroring my mother’s own sun sign, which is in Cancer.

Struggles

Aries: Wrath- Aries can act in a split second when provoked, fire fueling rash decisions over anything logical. The danger with Aries comes from moments like these, because actually, they aren’t malicious personalities, and rarely manipulate or taunt, but rather act out in a moments notice with how they are feeling.

Taurus: Gluttony- Taurus can seek comfort from the sensual surroundings, often leaving them with an attitude of wanting “More.” Food, drink, spending are all mood lifters for Taurus, and an attitude of wanting excess can get the better of them. Especially when in actuality, the simple life suits them rather well, remembering to treasure the little moments in life.

Gemini: Scatter- Gemini can suffer from forgetfulness, swift changes in views and opinions, confusion over what exactly it is they want in that minute, which can all lead to a feeling of being like a wound up coil ready to spring at any moment. Nerves and anxiety are possible with this sign, as well as a certain clumsiness, even if they somehow manage to still look graceful while this happens.

Cancer: Fear- Cancer can feel vulnerable just simply because of their very nature, a nature of being rather sensitive and receptive to everything around them, from simple temperature changes, environment changes to scathing remarks that seem to stay with them forever. They can feel the strong desire to stay indoors, to stay safe, but also have the bravery to survive.

Leo: Pride- Leo can stick to their guns over the immense amount of pride they have, the ego that they cherish but also fear somewhat. They can come across as self-absorbed at times, but ironically, it is in these times where they struggle the most with themselves. You can tell Leo are truly happy in their lives when they become more generous, loving and protective.

Virgo: Worry- Virgo can work themselves into a box, trapped by all the little conflicting and taunting thoughts in their head until they really do feel sick. But worry often comes from being a conscientious personality, and this is certainly true for Virgo. Carelessness can be exactly that, careless. Care can equate to value.

Libra: Loneliness- Libra can find it difficult to grasp themselves when isolated from the people around them, as they often admire and find pieces of their own psyche in others. They often need company to bounce ideas from, and can get wrapped up in this idea of having another “half.” Being alone for extended periods of time starts to feel a little less creative, and a little more plain lonely.

Scorpio: Vengefulness- Scorpio aren’t known for being pacifists, especially when they themselves or someone they care deeply about has been hurt. They can often ruminate with ideas of revenge, maybe even to the point of obsession, until they feel that justice can be served. The very thing that tips them over the edge can become a central point in their lives, something to think about for much of the time ahead.

Sagittarius: Flight- Sagittarius often cannot stand the idea of being restricted by outside forces, and often need an element of freedom in decision making, the freedom to change their minds and ponder. When caught up in heavy responsibly, they often have the urge to escape, the take flight to somewhere else where they can retain this sense of freedom. Some may even accuse them of being irresponsible and reckless as times.

Capricorn: Formality- Capricorn can vehemently stick to logic over allowing themselves to be overtaken with the expressive waves of the universe, often clinging to a law of sorts, a traditional way of looking at the world. For them, a handshake can feel like enough when others need more support, but this often does not come from a place of not caring, but rather just a struggle about how to go about an uncomfortable situation.

Aquarius: Chaos- Aquarius can be overcome with the urge to destroy controlling systems, especially those that are repressive, even if what is left in its wake is chaos of sorts. The thrill of knocking down established bricks can be wondrous for Aquarius, often without thought of the sacred quality of effort that goes into those systems being established.

Pisces: Fantasy- Pisces can wisp themselves away to somewhere better than here, to somewhere that feels so real that they can even start to believe it. This can be a wonderful quality, apart from when they start to project these traits onto the people around them, seeing only a mirage when unfortunately, not everyone is this world has pure intent.

saturn’s transit through the natal chart

listening to that audiobook got me incredibly interested in the saturn return, which is when transiting saturn conjuncts with ones natal saturn. this happens for everyone, usually between the ages of 28-30.

between birth and the return, however, there’s a few key phases of life where big changes happen, usually marked by challenging aspects between transiting saturn to one’s natal saturn: a square, an opposition, and a second square. 

the square happens around age 6-8, the opposition happens around 13-15, and the second square happens around 20-21. but from what i have come to understand is that for most, these aspects mean big changes. so, i decided to find out when kayla’s, my boyfriend’s, and my own saturn aspects were and what happened in their lives around the time.

kayla: first saturn square, around age 7. within the few months her natal saturn was square transiting saturn, the divorce of her parents was finalized. during saturn opposition was 7th grade for her, and around that time her group of friends changed and she noticed boys and grades started to drop but within the next yr it turned around.

tyler: first saturn square at age 8. had his first major surgery, father left mother. he claims he can’t remember much of that year but if i’m right it’s when he met his best friend. his second saturn square left him battered after losing his longest relationship and his subsequent coping was rly unhealthy.

me: first saturn square around age 7. my brother was born around this time! started cheerleading and later was part of the halftime event for a miami bowl game. saturn opposition was 8th grade for me and i got a new group of friends, mostly the class clown boys, i started failing classes, started kissing boys, basically just became the complete opposite of who i used to be and at the end of it i just felt really sad.

basically what i did to find my saturn aspects (can’t say for sure how reliable this is, you’re probably better off just like explicitly finding transits on websites like this and looking for dates but its time-consuming) was look on planetwatcher.com and after knowing my saturn degree (5 degrees of aries), and knowing that square aspects + oppositions make up the other signs of that modality, in this case cardinal, and looked up 5 degrees of cancer, libra, and capricorn respectively.

As someone who has natal Saturn in my 1st house, Saturn transitions really affect me. I can’t really remember my 7th year experience, but I began menstruating when I was 13 and my parents split up around the time I was 15. Between 20-21, I got my first “real job,” moved out of my mother’s house and broke up with my first love. Now at age 28, I’m going through a huge personal transformation (got married, became a lot more spiritual, cropped my hair to its shortest length yet, and turned to vegetarianism)….I can’t wait to see what else is in store!
