Elitist Minds
Conservatives like to call us elitists because of our education, our standards, and our decision making based on data. They call us elitists because that's easier than accepting fault. It's easier than changing their thoughts and life.
Liberals are no doubt more educated than conservatives. A natural consequence of that is having to tell people things they don't know or understand. That alone is not a classist or superior mentality. If you don't know something, someone is going to tell you eventually.
Our judgments are moral and not out of cruelty for your lack of education. I don't insult people because they can't do math, or don't comprehend classic literature, or philosophy. It's perfectly okay to not excel academically if you don't have the ability.
When you make moral judgements, laws, and culture around a complete lack of understanding, then we have a problem. The world is a large, complicated place. You have to accept that you don't know everything. If you haven't studied a topic, don't think you know just as much as people who have. Reading a few articles by reporters or opinionists is not studying a subject.
The backlash against education and expertise is not because conservatives are being mistreated or abused. It's because they're pride is hurt that they are wrong about everything. This makes them feel small and angry. However, that's not other people's fault. If you had some humility and listened to people who know more, you wouldn't be corrected constantly.
When your ignorance hurts other people because you can't accept your ignorance, then yes, I will insult you. It's not okay and it's not anyone else's fault but you're own.
