He was absolutely clinically insane, but he wasn’t completely stupid, he hadn’t forgotten any of his training or experiences as a soldier and he could read people fairly well, with some major slip-ups now and then.

“Hey, maybe you can answer a question for me, cause it’s been bugging the shit out of me. If I get a job to kill a girl, is it more sexist if I take it or if I let someone else do it. Cause on the one hand you’ve got the man on woman violence and the obvious sexism there, but then there’s the sexism of thinking ‘it’s a woman, I can’t take the job’ because of the previous sexism which assumes I would kill them easier than a man or they wouldn’t fight back as hard and shit like that. I mean I am a feminist, equal rights and respect and all that. Hold that thought for a second.” He leaned back on his stool to stare at the ass of one the hookers. “Justine. Loving the new thong, girl, no one pulls off neon orange disappearing down an asscrack like you.”

“So anyway, what’s the right answer here?” He said, returning his attention to Jessica.

“Guys in full body suits are turning up a lot more often than I’d like, if I’m honest about it.” She took another drink, shaking her head a little as he went on. “Besides, I doubt I’d get a lot of repeat business. Not exactly the smile and pretend to like it types.”

Her eyebrow crept up as he kept going. “I guess... it would depend on the girl?” She shook her head again. “If you’re talking terrorist, supervillain type shit, go hard. If it’s some kid down the street, maybe not so much but I’m not big on the whole killing people who don’t deserve it thing.”

OOC: Sorry for the inactivity lately. Dealing with a major rl crisis and trying to not get deported/plan a move across the pacific. So... yeah. I’ll try to catch up but things are a little crazy.

Is your superpower the ability to detect vast amounts of alcohol nearby? Cause this shithole definitely doesn’t have a welcome sign out front…and most of the guys in here are killers. Some of the girls too, well the ones who aren’t hookers anyway, actually a few of them do freelance work too.”

“Yeah, I can understand that. People are good at getting in the way in general.” She finished her drink and waved for another. She raised an eyebrow at him. “Yeah, I have a sixth sense for cheap whisky and places where the conversation will be minimal or at least... interesting.” She looked him up and down. “Guess it’s option 2 tonight.”

“Had a job go bust nearby. One of the... contractors pointed me in this direction.” No need to tell him that she wasn’t a merc, but a PI. He’d probably just assume she was a hooker anyway.

The bartender raised a brow. Had he seen the girl before? Maybe once or twice. Didn’t stop the playful yet sympathetic smile from carving a thin line across his otherwise disheveled and ungroomed face. He badly needed a shave. That, and a good night’s sleep. Whatever she was upset over, he could certainly sympathize with the feeling. Too bad he didn’t drink on the job (or much at all, really.)

“Careful, you drink too much that stuff and you won’t be around long enough to so much as pay your tab,” he teased, reaching for a shot glass that could easily hold a double, pouring just so. “——On ice?” he added, as an after thought.

“Yeah, well. The wallet’s in the inside pocket of my jacket if I keel over. You’re covered.” She shook her head a little. She was used to the comments and some nights she even indulged the bartenders that made them in a little conversation. Tonight was one of those nights. “No ice. It’s not going to be in there long enough to get cold.”

“My tactics…” Frank responded sternly, “are the only permanent ones.” He kept his eye on the scumbag in question then looked at her briefly. “Yeah… I’ll catch up with ya.” He answered, watching her as she walked away.

Once she was gone, he waited until the man they had been discussing left the business he’d been inside, and he took his shot. Then he very casually approached the coffeeshop Jessica had mentioned and walked inside, nodding to her as he sat across from her.

“Got coffee? Black.”

She was going over notes, photos, trying to figure out where she’d missed how sketchy this guy had been when Frank walked in. She looked up, flagging down the waitress so he could order his coffee as she sipped from hers. “I don’t know what I was expecting here.” She admitted with a shrug. “I’m usually better at sniffing out the real garbage from the... you know, regular level garbage.”

Maybe it was just luck. “Yeah, I’m sure she’s living the dream.”

She sat down a little heavier at the bar than usual. But she was far enough from home that she didn’t care who thought what about her. Not that she usually did but it was even easier when she wasn’t going to run into neighbors. “Whatever whisky you’ve got on the bar rail... and keep ‘em coming.” She called out to the bartender standing just a little way away.
