“yeah,” she says with a nod, glancing down at rey, who is now sniffing at the ground around her feet with complete disinterest in either tidus or herself, “i’m still getting used to him, i guess. he’s sweet, but i wouldn’t have guessed that he would be such a big piggy.” she marks her point with a laugh. “he eats like crazy. uh… i’m sorry about your malasada, by the way. do you want one of mine?”
tidus can’t help the smile that tugs at his lips when he watches the trainer scold her pokemon– firm, but it’s shaped in a way where the tenderness in her gentle voice was so much more noticeable. it’s telling to tidus of her methods of training. “he’ll understand in no time,” the gym leader nods adamantly, “ninetails are really intelligent. they can be a bit cold, but they’ll warm up to you in no time.” he cracks an even bigger smile, a bit goofier this time; sniggering at his own joke.
their eyes meet momentarily, but the gym leader holds his gaze. he can’t help it. he was completely enraptured by her eyes. they carried a color so blue that tidus was positive that even the oceans and the skies would envy her. a sapphire pool that suicune itself would revel in. not only did the color arrest his attention, there was also an undeniable warmth in her eyes that he found an odd sort of comfort in. he knows he’s staring, but he’s quick to be brought back when she starts to speak again.
“i’ve met him,” he tells her, “when i got my pokemon from cypress, he was there and we became friends. he’s a sweet lil’ guy.” tidus reaches out to rub behind the fox’s ears, “and it looks like he’s in good hands.” the gym leader flashes another smile at her, shaking his head when she offers some of her pastries. “nah, you’re good. there’s enough malasadas going around... i’m tidus, by the way–” he pauses, cheeks flushing slightly when he remembers she had been the one to recognize him first, “i mean you knew that, of course. i meant... uh, what’s your name? what do you do?”
