ART HISTORY MEME; 8 artists: Claude Monet [1/8]
Color is my day-long obsession, joy, and torment. -Monet
Declan smiled, happy Adon understood perfectly. That was why he liked him so much- Adon just.. got him.
“I can do you one better! Come!” He waved the other over towards the school house. It’d closed for the day and Declan was in the process of locking up and returning the keys to Diamond City’s security. It wouldn’t hurt to show Adon around.
Gently creaking the door open, Dec allowed himself and Adon entry inside. “This is where I work.” He explained, hobbling over to the desk at the front of the classroom. The walls were littered with old pre-war posters, promoting the importance of education. Other walls were plastered with children’s works and drawings.
“I’m a teacher! Not too bad, is it?” He spoke with a wide grin, flopping into the comfy leather chair behind the desk. “Not too bad for a man once known for being a mindless brute…”
They ventured into the schoolhouse, which still managed to impress Adon as shabby as it looked. However, it wasn’t until he laid eyes on the classroom did it click. Did the memories of old tomes and sagely women come back to him. This was a true place of learning. Sure, different than the temples and ritual circles of his people. Yet it smelled of the same aged books and charcoal. Even a bit of paint.
“You’ve never been a mindless brute. I would have sensed it.” The witch smiled and wandered through the desks. He spied a few crude sketches on the withering wood and laughed at the odd conversations taking place there. Children had their ways of speaking, even in silence.
“Did they make all of this?” He then walked towards the wall riddled with drawings. The boy looked at them with admiration, even if they were purely abstract or ‘wrong’. But they were so honest. Pure. “Is that you?” His finger gently pressed against a large figure, roughly colored blonde.

starry skies make me think of @wiccanwonder
This makes me think so much of Adon! I would love to write him doing a ritual dance like this, it’s exactly the sort of thing he’d do while worshiping some god. I think the idea would come from watching angler fish, since it’s their way of attracting prey. So in a way he’d be trying to attract their good favor.
Listening to this again, and gosh...It’s still such a good song for Adon. And I still want to write a thread where he’s dancing. <3 <3 <3
WHAT’S YOUR MUSE’S PLANT PERSONALITY? TAKE THIS QUIZ AND POST YOUR RESULTS ( repost, don’t reblog. ) // tagged by: doing this here too <3 // tagging: @wiccanwonder @lancedalot (idk if you’ve done this one here...but knights and flowers...)
Plant Personality: DGP
Dandelion: Scrappy and tough, you’re a pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps kind of person. You don’t give up easily and you often thrive in situations that others would find discouraging. You have an instinct to serve others and see yourself as most useful in times or places of crisis, but you may over rely on your toughness and forget how sensitive you really are.
Ginger: Spirited. A feisty and fiery companion, quick with an opinion, a laugh or an idea. Warm, friendly and inviting, you never allow an awkward moment to pass. In fact, even cold and distant people warm up to you more quickly than others. Negative experiences or too much indulgence, however, can send you into a bit of a tailspin, and when hurt you may become quite cold and distant. Ginger people do best when their natural warmth and affection is flowing freely, giving them easy access to their love of life.
Passionflower: Deeply concerned about others and the world around you, you have a developed sense of what’s right and just. You’re a bit of an idealist and strive to see your vision of perfection realized in the world. On occasion you get out of balance, and you may feel a deep sense of unease and be prone to worry—especially at night, tossing and turning over all that is wrong or that needs fixing.
“It was also my- …an old ‘friend’s’ last name. We were close and I…wanted to keep- …” He trailed off, not wanting to continue. “Oh. The name Dead Sea had a lot of baggage tied to it. All my sins from the Mojave were committed under that name. …Plus, no one really wants to be friends with the name with ‘death’ in his name. Many people feared me on name alone around here.”
He smiled. Phoenixes were an extraordinary beast. When they died, they rose again from their own ashes …suitable, all things considered. “A lot has changed over the months, for the better. I get a lot of help for some of the uh-… Mental things I have. Oh! And I’ve got a job now!”
Had this been the same friend he’d been mourning? Adon dared not ask, unaccustomed to pure feelings of grief. Instead, he smiled once more and smoothed his palm over their hand.
“I understand. When a name invokes negative energy, it’s best to seal it away. That’s why my sisters and I never speak the true names of the old ones.” The boy’s eyes gleamed with giddiness. He hadn’t noticed just how much he’d missed this man.
“A job? That’s wonderful! What sort of tasks have they given you? You must tell me everything. I have missed so much...I have missed you most of all.”

Adon just tilts his head, frowning slightly as he does so. It’s what was expected of him. He couldn’t just not participate in a ritual. “Well, I’m sorry.”

Declan stopped in surprise, both from hearing his friend and … That name. He turned and smiled, he’d not seen Adon in so long! He’d missed his witchy friend. “Adon!” He chimed. “Hang on a sec.” He quickly finished up his small conversation with a child’s mother, then let her go with the small child.
Clapping his hands together, he paced over to Adon. “Sorry about that …Anyway… It’s been so long, my friend! How have you been?” He asked, smiling widely now. The mention of the passing of time reminded Declan of his recent name change.
“Oh- I need to tell you something. …Nothing major but, I don’t really go by ‘Dead Sea’ anymore, Adon. It’s not your fault! I’ve not seen you to tell you… But yes…It’s Declan now. Declan Phoenix.”
The witch returned his smile, his teeth glimmering in a peaceful expression. There was something different about his friend, so used to seeing him brood and burrow into himself. Now, there appeared to be a halo lining their silhouette. It brought the boy much needed comfort amid this noisy town.
“It has been long...I would have found you sooner if I’d known how to get here. But this morning, by chance, I finally found the right route.”
Adon paused as his friend spoke, tilting his head like a curious beast. Now he understood why there seemed to be a sense of rebirth emanating from Declan. New names were powerful, able to mold a person anew. “Declan Phoenix. I like the name! Phoenixes have always been one of my favorite beasts. What made you change your name?”
@decurionmortuum liked for a starter!
‘The great, green jewel of the commonwealth! The safest place in all of Boston.’
The guards at the entrance were very adamant about praising their home, raising it to lofty heights. But Adon couldn’t see the beauty of houses caged within high walls. Isolated from the wilds and the animals roaming outside. Who could live so far from nature? Sure, there were crops, a cow and a few crows perched along the wires. But that could hardly compare to the great wastelands outside.
Already he felt a disconnect with the crowd, walking through the mesh of unfamiliar faces with doubt plaguing his mind. Only the presence of pooled water underneath the walkways calmed his nerves. Stilled his fluttery heart. Without much thought, he made his way through a door and rushed to close it.
The building was deathly still, but the muttering of children slipped through it’s cracks. Hushed conversations were then split by a grave voice, which spoke in familiar baritones.
“Dead Sea?”
