when using Play As Talanah And More (the Model Swap Mod) you can change face paints of NPCs you swapped too, and YES they all have unpainted face textures somewhere out there in the game files 🙌 it's a bit janky tho. Nora and Carja paint is placed under the default one, so you get 2 layers. also if you go with anything but No Face Paint everyone gets Aloy's eye color, eye shadow, skin tone and scalp textures (and I think normal/bump etc. maps too??? everyone's suspiciously smooth). AND all the guys end up Aloy-sized 😂

Okay but what if I tell you THAT'S NOT EVEN ALL OF IT

Us from Kotaloy Elysium discord server got into using a program called Ninja Ripper

It takes the information a game sends to your graphics card, and gives you a buttload of files that you can then load into a 3d program.

Like. Literal thousands per "screenshot" you take with the program, and then we have to sort through everything, delete unwanted stuff like scenery meshes and interface textures

And in the end we're able to repiece together a character most of the times.

We weren't able to rebuild things like armor because the program is throwing limited files, like meshes without UV mapping (the information that tells the 3d engine what part of a 2d image goes on what part of a 3d mesh, for textures) but. The character bodies work, and so do the textures.

We've been using those for fanart reference images for character body paints, tenakth tattoos etc that's under armor in-game but everything nice and textured officially!

Stuff like this:

The amount of Boy Peeled jokes on the server when we were doing this was enormous and rendered (hah!) us a crapton of jokes

we obviously didn't check out every single NPC in the game but it looks like all tenakth characters have full tattoo textures? doesn't matter if you can never see them because they're covered by armor? which is amazing??? although those texture files come in red, green and blue so we had to color the tattoos ourselves (so they may be a little off). but they are all very much in there

AND while there are textures for the whole body, it's not the same for meshes/models. usually if something's covered by armor that would mean it's just not there, no knees, no elbows, straight up a huge hole in the middle of someone's chest even? we really lucked out with Kotallo since he's only missing his shins 😂 and thankfully @afroditeohki was able to rebuild our boys for the renders😂

I saw this on Pinterest and tracked the creator to Flickr - I keep seeing Miriam Technology building in this, just replace the Pterodactyl with a Sunwing and it's there 👀
