hey guys, so I’ve decided to leave this blog. I’ve had it for about five and a half years and I guess I feel like it’s time to remake. You guys have been great <3 I’ll probably come back to this now and again but I’ll mostly be at my new blog.

If anyone wants my new url they’re free to ask for it! the only reason I’m not posting it is because some people are harassing my girlfriend and I don’t want them to find her new blog through mine.

No offense, but I’m kinda annoyed with people insisting that if a questioning lesbian is struggling with her feelings towards men (which is usually because she’s dealing with compulsory heterosexuality) that she HAS to ID as bi until she figures it out. If a girl is questioning her identity and thinks that she might be a lesbian, it is not our job to try to convince her that she’s anything but. When I first started identifying as a lesbian, I still felt attraction to men, but it was an attraction that I didn’t want to act on anymore. And it wasn’t until I started identifying as a lesbian that I found a community where I could actually let go of my attraction to men and where I learned that what I was experiencing was compulsory heterosexuality, which isn’t something that I had ever learned about before.

If a girl still feels attraction to men but chooses to ignore it, or chooses that it’s irrelevant and chooses the lesbian label, then it’s no ones business to tell her that she’s committing “bi erasure”, that she’s “ruining” the lesbian label, or that she’s a “political lesbian” (as “gold star lesbians” like to insist). It’s our job to let her know that it’s okay to have confusing feelings because compulsory heterosexuality fucks so many of us up for so long, that it’s okay to not have everything figured out right off the bat, and that she can identify as a lesbian for as long as the label applies. I’m sorry, but completely figuring out and overcoming the effects of compulsory heterosexuality does NOT need to come before identifying as a lesbian, and I call bullshit on anyone who suggests otherwise.

Three Black female astronauts share their story.

What made you want to become an astronaut?

Stephanie Wilson: It was 1969 and I was 10 years old. I was at the top of an old oak tree looking at the sky and the moon. My dad called me into the house, telling me to watch a human walking on the moon for the very first time. That was that seminal moment and I never looked back. I just wanted to keep looking and looking until I could see my footprint on the moon.

Jeanette Epps: It actually started when I was 9 years old years old. I have a twin sister and we have a couple of older siblings. My older brother was in college and came home for break. Janet, my twin and I had just gotten our report cards and we had done really well in math and science. His comments to us were, “wow you guys are doing well, you can become an aerospace engineer or even an astronaut or some kind of scientist because there were a bunch of women selected to be astronauts.” I thought they probably won’t select me to be an astronaut, but I can definitely become an aerospace engineer. But, that one little seed he planted in my mind back then stuck with me forever. My sister went on to earn a PhD in molecular cell biology.

Dr. Yvonne Cagle: I became interested in space when I was about 13 years old. My first interest was in astronomy and I was given a school assignment to interview someone interesting and I chose an Astronomy professor and was fascinated by his work. This is what sparked my first interest in science and in space. Later though I became interested in engineering and I thought that aerospace engineering would be a good combination of my interest in space and my interest in engineering. I was very fortunate, my parents encouraged me to pursue my dreams and told me that I could be anything I wanted to be.
