one gifset per appearance → new zealand tour, day 5: visit to rainbow place, hamilton [1/3] (12/04/2014)
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge started the fifth day of their royal tour of New Zealand with separate engagements. While Prince William visited Pacific Aerospace, the Duchess continued her interest in children’s palliative care with a visit to Rainbow Place, which helps to care for children with life-limiting illnesses and provide psychological care for those whose family members are affected by illness and death. Catherine spent an hour meeting families and taking part in classes like art therapy and participating in a Mad Hatter’s tea party held inside a giant teepee. A 12-year-old boy told her about his father’s drowning using a sand tray, and Kate sat at a table comforting two girls whose mother had been diagnosed with terminal throat cancer. Bailey Rupe, a six-year-old whose mother has terminal breast cancer, said she “was excited to meet a real princess and it made me feel like a princess for the day too.”
