“Ah... I hear there’s going to be a party?”
“I’m sure it’ll be lots of fun! I hope everyone stays safe, though...”

Ah, lunchtime. Ed’s favorite part of the day. When he didn’t have to deal with his teachers’ slow droning for a few minutes, and besides that, he could eat. The high school’s dining options were limited, but hey, he’d take what he could get. Food was food, and as long as no one was going to try to make him drink any milk, he loved it all. He had no idea what today’s hot lunch was—it was, as usual, difficult to identify on sight alone—but there was plenty of it, which was what mattered most. Plus, there were seats outside to accommodate the increasingly nice weather. Yeah, Edward really liked lunch. It put even him into a good mood. Which was why he was prepared to hold a conversation with the tiny pink-haired girl currently approaching his empty table.
“Ah... Excuse me?”
It was relatively unusual for Madoka to make an appearance in the school cafeteria. Most days, she brought a boxed lunch with her to school - painstakingly prepared by her father, the resident chef of the Kaname household, his love carefully threaded into the neatly arranged ingredients. (Sometimes she attempted to make her own lunch, but the results were usually... well, less than outstanding.) While the school’s food was by no means unappetizing - and it’s not as if Madoka was a particularly picky eater - she preferred to spend her lunchtimes with a handmade meal settled on her lap, back against the wall as she sat absorbing the pleasant quiet of the school’s rooftop.
Thus, it was a tragic series of events that had led her to deviate from her usual routine today - an alarm clock failing to go off, a shower that seemed to be stubbornly against running any hot water, a boxed lunch left overlooked on the counter as she rushed out the door. Upon dejectedly realizing her mistake come lunchtime, she had resignedly come along to the school cafeteria. Wanting to at least take the chance to experience the invitingly pleasant weather they’d been blessed with today, she had wandered out into the outside seating area, only to be met with a sea of tables already filled - save for one.
Which led her to where she was now - tentatively approaching the table of another student, tray held in her hands. She didn’t seem to recognize him, which was vaguely odd; while it was hard to gauge considering he was sitting down, he didn’t seem much taller than her, which suggested they were in the same year... Well, it wasn’t as if she knew everybody in her grade.
“Sorry to bother you, but... Would you mind if I sat with you?” On instinct, she almost went to nervously fiddle with her hair, and had to catch herself before she dropped her tray. “All of the other tables are full, so...”

▓▒░ ☀ Nagisa smiled brightly. Now this was more like it. With a practised launched jump, the little blond flew over the counter with a little ‘ha!’—he’d done so before and ended up knocking over half the cat toy display on the counter but after a bit of refining he’d made it work—and landed neatly in front of the girl with fairy floss hair. ❝Ohayo! Is it your first time here? I don’t think I’ve seen you before!❞ he burbled happily as he looked her up and down, ❝Ah! You’re here for some cuddly bunnies? Good choice! They’re really nice and cuddly but Big Boomer is a bit grumpy sometimes… but today he looks happy!❞
❝This way~!❞ he said in a cheery voice, weaving his way between some shelves and came out by a small open pen that housed two mottled brown and white rabbits that were currently munching on some hay. ❝This is Cookie and Biscuit. I mean, that’s what I call them. You can call them whatever you like! Over in this cage we have Big Boomer—he doesn’t get along well with others—and over there we have Toffe and Fudge. They each get a turn in the open pen through out the week which they look forward to.❞ Nagisa pointed to each cage in turn and then turned to his companion expectantly. ❝Would you like to spend some time with them?❞
Without waiting for an answer he climbed over the fence of the pen and sat down on the ground a few paces away from where the rabbits were stationed. ❝Oh yeah, my name is Nagisa. What’s yours? Feel free to climb over, they’re used to it by now.❞
Madoka watched with silent awe as the boy gracefully launched himself over the counter. That had looked pretty impressive.
“Ah - yes! I, um, I live in Kairos, so I don’t really know many of the shops around here, but...” She scratched at her cheek shyly. “Your shop looked really nice, so I thought I’d come in!” It felt a little awkward to admit she had just walked in on a whim, and this person was going out of his way to lead her through the store - but he had an easy sort of atmosphere around him, a warm cheeriness that Madoka felt herself relaxing into. She listened intently as he told her the name of the rabbits, committing them to memory with an amusingly serious resolve.
"A-Are you sure it’s alright?” she stuttered as he offered her the chance to enter the pen herself.
With a painfully distinct lack of grace (clumsiness was a bit of an inherent part of her nature), she awkwardly clambered over the fence, dusting off her skirt as she straightened herself up. “Thank you very much,” she breathed, dropping into a crouch. She reached out towards one of the rabbits - Cookie, her memory supplied - tentatively, her hand moving with a hesitant slowness so as not to startle him. With all the gentleness she could muster, her fingers stroked slowly at the dappled fur beneath her touch. She seemed to almost physically melt at the sensation, a dreamy expression rising to her face.
“So soft...” she murmured, almost involuntarily. “Ahh, I wish I could take you home with me...” Her attempts at convincing her mother to let her adopt a bunny were still ongoing. She wanted to believe hope was on the horizon - but even her eternally optimistic nature was beginning to falter slightly. Still! She was nothing if not determined, and the silky softness of Cookie’s fur only served to motivate her further.
As her mind slowly ticked over the last things she’d heard, she suddenly flushed, realizing she’d gotten so carried away she hadn’t responded to the boy’s last question. “Oh - I’m sorry! My name’s Madoka.” She offered him a bright, genuine smile. “It’s nice to meet you!”

「☆」 The evening sky had began to quiet down from it’s earlier liveliness and the promising milieu of the Vardos school courtyard had come to a significant tranquility. Haru had set herself down on a small lacquered and tawny bench, enjoying the late afternoon quiet that had set in at her new school. She lost herself in ponder for awhile at all the new experiences she would come across here, another elation slowly rising in her heart. Despite that, now that had it come down to it, she needed to admit something had felt horribly off since her arrival. Unusually eerie. From her initial transferal, an odd sensation had began to take her mind and body. It wasn’t anything worth mentioning at all, but she couldn’t help but take notice at how “out of sync” something felt. Could there possibly have been something tying her to this school? Is it possible..No, there was no way. Although, could she have..been here before? Her thoughts started to circulate into a cobweb of confusion, having tried to disregard the matter as best as she had. To no avail, she only drove herself into deeper uncertainty. In the chaotic feelings that started to seep into her, she became only more desperate to shrug them off. A small streetlight flickered on next to the bench, which prompted that it must be getting dark, already. In the distance, she saw a figure looking lost and confused. She seemed to bear the same feelings she had just felt awhile ago. Was it possible that it had something to do with our memories as well? That she wasn’t the only one so confused? Perhaps there were more mysteries to this school than meets the eye. Slowly, she began to approach the figure in an expression streaked of concern.
To claim there was something bothering her would be, by turns, both an exaggeration and not nearly enough to explain it. The feeling that pervaded her was something that could not be pinned down so concretely - a shapeless sort of thing, not quite unease but something kicking at the threshold of it. When Madoka tried to pin it down, it slipped through her fingers like water, like trying to recall a dream she had long since forgotten. It came to her intermittently. It was present in the scratch of her mechanical pencil against the paper of her notebook; it was there, mingling with the morning light as it caught her mother’s hair. It was a flash of some incongruent colour in her eyes when she saw her own reflection in the corner of her vision. And maybe that last one was the most unnerving one of all - that this feeling, whatever it was, was rooted not in the world around her, but, perhaps - in Madoka herself?
Still, for the most part, things were alright. The feeling came in flashes, and by the time she tried to grasp it, most of the time she had already forgotten the weight of it upon her mind. But some days, it came and it stuck around, tinting her mood with an uncomfortable hue - and today was one of those days.
“Ah...”
A sigh fell from her lips as she stood in the late quiet of the school’s courtyard, watching as the sky overhead slowly drowned in the sunset. Club activities had drawn to a close, and most of the students were heading home, if they hadn’t already. But Madoka found herself feeling strangely listless, not yet wanting to go home for reasons she couldn’t explain. Her archery club session today had been even less fruitful than usual - her bow had felt uncomfortable in her hands, her grip not quite fitting. In a way, her shots today felt like they mirrored her attempts at pinning down this elusive feeling; her arrows had been so far off the mark the whole thing had felt completely hopeless.
She was so lost in her thoughts that she barely registered the sounds of someone approaching her. Wordlessly, she turned around to find herself face to face with a girl around her own age, who was looking at her with a kind of apprehensive concern.
A few seconds passed before Madoka’s brain finally caught up with the fact that she was staring dumbly at this girl without saying anything. With a start, she snapped out of her blurry reverie. “Ah - I’m sorry!” she exclaimed, flushing slightly. “I was kinda in my own world there, ahaha...” With a bashful laugh, she rubbed the back of her head sheepishly before taking another look at the girl before her.
“Um... you’re the one who transferred in recently, right?” She paused for a moment. “...Ichinose-san... was it? I haven’t gotten a chance to introduce myself to you yet - I’m Madoka Kaname.” She offered her a gentle smile, brushing away the vestiges of the strange feeling that had been clinging to her.
♫
♫ - singing voice
Madoka’s singing voice is pretty average; while she doesn’t sound awful by any means, her range isn’t that wide, and she’s not what you’d outstanding. Still, her singing is relatively pleasant to the ears, but she’s normally too shy to sing around other people to any great extent. She enjoys it, though, and often hums or sings along to herself when working.
☁ ✄ ☂
☁ -ideal holiday
Ifasked, she would probably shyly answer that her ideal holiday issimply one she can spend with her friends – and that’s the crux ofit. For Madoka, enjoyment is drawn from the company of the peopleshe’s around, and the place is notably less important.
However, she’s not particularly fond of gloomy weather, so somewhere sunnywould probably be better for her. She’d prefer not to visit somewheretoo lively, and a holiday involving intense physical challenge wouldprobably be a little beyond her – in this sense, her idealdestination would be somewhere tranquil and relaxing, along with thepeople she loves.
✄ -nervous habits
Physically,Madoka expresses her nerves quite clearly – when feeling shy orunder pressure, she tends to fidget with her hands a lot, whether itbe tapping her fingers together anxiously, fiddling with her hair, orfiddling with the fabric of her skirt. While for the most part herspeech is hesitant and stuttering when nervous, occasionally she willdissolve into rambling without really having any aim behind whatshe’s talking about.
☂ -sadness
Heroutlook is fundamentally a positive one, with her being perhapsdeceptively resilient to negativity. However, no one can fully evadesadness, and Madoka is no exception; every once in a while, she findsher mind clouded over with thoughts far removed from her usualcheerful temperament. Often this sadness is hazy and shapeless, lacking any concrete basis. While she is fundamentally quiteintroverted, being alone for extended periods of time is often whattriggers these sad feelings – and, similarly, they can usuallyeasily be dispersed by spending time with her friends. She normallyrecovers quite quickly, but can occasionally withdraw into hersadness too much, and on these occasions requires a helping hand topull her out of her gloom.
⌨
⌨ -time-wasting habits
She’sa big fan of drawing – while she’s a little shy about it, it’s hergo-to activity for when she finds herself unoccupied or bored. Whileshe tries to keep a clear focus during class, you can easily identifywhen her attention has wandered, because her neatly written noteswill trail off into doodles of all sorts.
Beyondthat, when she needs to kill time on a slightly larger scale, sheenjoys wandering around the city. While she’s lived in Kairos all herlife, she finds the city still offers her plenty to discover; inparticular, she enjoys hunting out obscure cafes or bakeries. Occasionally she ventures over to Paralia; while she loves where she lives, she revels in the idyllic, calmer ambience of the smaller city.
☤
☤ - self care/first aid habits
Madokais, for the most part, pretty good at taking care of herself. Whileshe’s diligent in her work, she has the sense to recognize whenstress is getting to her, and is well acquainted with how much shecan handle before things overload her. She has a number of go-toactivities when she needs to unwind; while for the most part mundane, such as listening to music or taking a warm bath, they’re effective.Spending time with her friends and family is particularly therapeuticfor her, and she knows well that there exists a circle of peopleprepared to offer her unconditional support - a fact she once haddifficulty swallowing, but has come to warmly accept as she growsolder.
However, she has a habit of placing other people’s needs before her own – aquality which is a virtue as often as it is a fault. She willfrequently disregard her own wellbeing if it’s for the sake ofanother person, and often needs to be snapped out of this spiral ofself-neglection. While, as previously mentioned, she has become morecomfortable with relying on other people, if there is something whichis truly deeply troubling her on some visceral level, she willusually keep it to herself, for fear of bothering others or involvingthem in her problems.
Asfor first-aid, her knowledge basically comes down to what she learnedin first-aid classes in school. She’s a certified professional atapplying band-aids, but beyond that, has never had much opportunityto put what she knows into practice.

Can I help you? | Nagisa x Madoka
alphasagitta
▓▒░ ☀ It was a slow day at the pet shop. Normally Nagisa wouldn’t have minded have the shop to himself as he could have cuddled and played with most of the stock—except for the fish—but today the lack of people was killing him. Of course, it didn’t help that he was doggone tired from staying up into the wee hours of the morning watching episode after episode of Blue Planet on his laptop until he finally fell asleep. It had taken three alarms, Sou-chan, and a cold shower for him to even get into work on time.
And now he was suffering the consequences of only running on four hours of sleep. Nagisa was so out of it that it took him a few moments to register the sound of the customer bell and the feel of a fresh breeze wafting into the shop. Stifling a yawn the blond forced himself to appear slightly more awake and service minded as he cheerfully welcomed the girl with the standard greeting.
❝Welcome to Fur, Feather, and Scales! How can I help?❞
The day seemed to carry within itself a hazy lethargy, dragging Madoka down into a state of lazy inaction. Upon waking up, she had decided to start the morning by delving into her algebra homework; however, after a ten-minute staring battle with question 3a (during which she came no closer to knowing what x was nor how to find it), she had to concede defeat. Her attempt at tackling her English work had proven equally fruitless, the foreign letters on the page swimming in her vision and blurring into shapeless incomprehensibility.
Through the frame of her bedroom window, however, the sun shone, bright and enticing. On principle, Madoka tried not to let herself be enticed into the slippery slope of procrastination, but she had plenty of time, and a quick walk seemed ideal for clearing the fog that seemed to be sweeping through her brain. And so - after taking a few minutes to tie her distinctive ribbons into her hair, she stepped out into the warm afternoon of the city. “Take care,” her mother called as she left, and the door settled into place behind her with a satisfying click.
How a quick walk had ended up with her meandering aimlessly through the streets of Paralia, however, she had no idea. It seemed the tempting spiral of procrastination was more insidious than she thought. Still, the subtle ambiance of Paralia was refreshing, the amiability of its inhabitants near-tangible in the air, and what time was more convenient than now to explore some shops she had never visited before? On that note -
“Ah!”
A tiny gasp fell from her lips as she gazed up at the shop before which she found herself. Fur, Feather, and Scales - a surge of tiny excitement welled up within her as she realized that this was indubitably a pet shop. Hooked in all too quickly by the possibilities of what lay within, she found herself pushing open the door before she had time to consciously decide upon it. The chime of a bell resounded as she entered, attracting the attention of the young worker behind the counter.
“A-Ah, good morning!” she greeted, dropping into a brief, flustered bow. As she straightened up, her eyes quickly surveyed the shop’s interior. She tried to avoid asking shop workers for help generally, worrying that she was bothering them or distracting them from something else - but it seemed to be relatively quiet today, and she reasoned it wouldn’t be too much of an inconvenience.
She met the boy’s gaze with a small smile, slightly hesitant but vividly cheerful. “Um, if it’s alright... would you mind showing me where the rabbit section is?”
