pretending to be weak was exhausting in and of itself.      when an entire town knows you as the comatose hale,   awake at last,   there was only so low you could lay back.      though he truly wasn’t back to his full health,   he was still far better than the act he was putting on.      as far as his nephew   ( who had been so kind to come back to town at the news of laura’s death and peter’s improved state )   knew,   peter was still having trouble controlling his abilities again.      truly a shame,   it was,   that the hunters’ attack on their home took this much from them all.      a founder without his family . . . yeah,   peter was just devastated when he woke.

❝   only a matter of time before the hunters come back after last night’s . . . drama,    ❞       peter says as he follows derek back into the remains of the family home,   steps slow and uneven.      the burns along his jaw tighten as speaking tugs at the skin and he winces briefly,   feigning slight pain.      the words sounded bored,   but they raised a question :   who was attacking civilians in town ?      peter wasn’t so dumb as to let any of his own stay alive without reason.        ❝   and because of it we can’t just hide out here and wait to be slaughtered and mounted on their walls.      maybe if you’re lucky we’d even be a rug.      we have to be ready for them,   derek,   and i can’t help you if i’m not able to properly shift.    ❞      ( @sourhale )

animal attacks in mystic falls.      what a goddamn joke.      kate found it funny,   really,   the way the people in town were so quick to accept the excuse,   so prepared to turn a blind eye to the danger right in front of them.      people saw what they wanted to see after all,   and no one could ever dream of werewolves being real !      so when chris called the week prior to tell her that he wanted her in town,   kate didn’t hesitate to say yes.      she thought she had handled this problem a few years ago                 but apparently not well enough.      the hales were like cockroaches that just didn’t want to die,   weren’t they ?

on the other hand,   it had been just over year since kate had last seen her niece and much of her family.      practically felt like a decade,   considering just how much allison had developed as a teen.      never did kate expect herself to be the  ‘look at how grown you are !’  type,   but as allison bounds screeching into the guest room,   kate can’t help herself.        ❝   i don’t see you for a year and you turn into a freaking runway model !    ❞       a grin blooms across her face as she pulls allison into a tight hug,   her belongings abandoned on the bed before her.      had she not arrived at nearly 3am that morning,   this reunion surely would have happened sooner.       ❝   almost eighteen now,   too,   huh ?      i’ll be damned.      you’re a knockout,   sweetheart.    ❞
