I don't think that there's anything wrong with Levi having a heroin addiction in order to cope with PTSD, however, opiate addiction during the Second World War was most commonly seen in soldiers who were given morphine, typically after being injured, which is not the case for Levi. It is not ridiculous to think that he picked up a heroin addiction up afterwards SPECIFICALLY to deal with trauma from war, but given the time period that the game is based on, I have another drug consideration that isn't an opiate:
Besides morphine, the other drug addiction that I think of when it comes to soldiers in the Second World War is amphetamines, which were used by soldiers on both sides of the war, though most infamous is probably the methamphetamine tablet Pervitin taken by the troops in Nazi Germany. This wasn't used to alleviate trauma symptoms, but to help with alertness during long missions and to make people more "effective soldiers".
The effect of heroin in the game matches up with amphetamines more than it does real-life heroin, which tends to make people contented and relaxed immediately after use. While Levi might have trouble in action because of withdrawal, him being better in a fight because he's taken heroin is... a little strange.
As a depressant, it makes sense that heroin heals mind substantially, but not that it boosts attack, body, or causes you to survive hits. Amphetamines, on the other hand, "trigger a heightened state of alert. In most people, the substance increases self-confidence, concentration and the willingness to take risks, while at the same time reducing sensitivity to pain, hunger and thirst"*, which sounds perfect for the game, as well as more similar to what the in-game heroin item already does.
I'm not doing anything like asking Miro to change the heroin in the game because of real-life inconsistencies, or change what Levi is addicted to simply because I said "it's less likely with his circumstances", it was just something that occurred to me while playing, and I wanted to share my thoughts.
If Miro wished to add some sort of amphetamine use, I could see Pavel having some experience with this, should he become a playable character, since he's a part of the Bremen army, F&H's Nazi Germany equivalent. I'm not sure if people would be annoyed to play as another drug-addicted character besides Levi, though this methamphetamine could alternatively be treated as a very limited buff item that Pav has initial access to instead of something he's already addicted to.
