why do closed captions keep pretending english is the only intelligible language? when a character speaks spanish what exactly is forcing your hand to transcribe it as "[speaks foreign language]" rather than "Si"

#YES this!!!#whyyyy do they do that #let people see how it's written #if it's normally written with a different script you can just transcribe it in Roman characters!! that is very common!!#there are romanization conventions in so many languages !!!!#subtitles

i'm not aro but i find it so annoying whenever i see a well-written, tight-knit friendship & people immediately jump to "they're dating/poly/qpr" like NO. they are FRIENDS. are we familiar with that concept? and it's getting to the point where i am genuinely afraid to write complex friendships because i don't want people to be like "oh this relationship is Too Meaningful to just be platonic" like no??? it's meaningful because it's platonic. ugh
