When a kind nerd of our time and a fearless master hand of the ancient times get to know each other.
I love TV shows that are like 'British murder mystery with loveable non-police detectives in which the crime is solved within 45 minutes and then they all get a cup of tea'. Truly the best genre I need more of it in my life
THE genre.

Altel Chagla’s Original Characters
for High-Fantasy Story
(02/12/2025)
A diverse company escorts two powerful diplomats whose survival could prevent war—only to learn that peace is not protected by hiding, but by active resistance to violence.
IZAIA
Izaia is a middle height half-human-half-mage man.
Izaia is shy and a bit self-conscious both regarding his abilities and his appeal. He works hard to be a better wizard. He is always at the side of peaceful resolution of the problems. And hates violence and sees killing as a failure. War has no winners for him.
He has a flying big gray wolf companion named Kutlu. Kutlu is reserved, brave and smart.
Izaia, as very young, finds his Mentor mage named Miriti and insists on being her student. Seeing he made his own staff, she accepts to test him. Despite at the end the stick being broken, she says he indeed has potential and gives him one of her staff.
He falls in love with a taernik man named Mak because of his empathetic attitude, and the way he’s straightforwardly blurbing his thoughts which are precise observations.
Izaia knows great power brings more responsibility and tries to keep himself under control which sometimes overwhelms him. One of his defining powers is creating protection space like his Mentor. Yet it requires a tremendous amount of energy. The only time he was about to loose control was when the bads guys tried to torture Mak in front of him while Izaia was tied with cursed ropes. Yet he went wild only because it was the only way to save his beloved Mak as later it’s revealed that Izaia was practicing to tame himself to not get out of control with power.
Taernik - They are engineers and architects. They are around 160 cm. Not fans of singing or dancing. Among the Taernik, building is duty. Creation without purpose is tolerated, not praised.
There are very few toy makers among them as it's seen as not an essential skill rather a hobby and a taernik named Mak is one of the toy makers despite working as the cook. He also likes singing and dancing after dinner.
From their cultural view: “Mak functions. He just… wastes surplus energy.”
MAK
He’s warm-hearted and friendly. Mak is one of the most approachable of the tarenik. He is the quickest to approach and accept and trust Izaia (half-human-half-mage guy).
The other taerniks don’t hate Mak, they just see him as a marginal. So a toy-maker who makes toys for joy, laughs while making them, sings and dances after dinner…is quietly unsettling.
They would not promote him, not mention his hobby in formal records, politely redirect conversations, assign him “useful” work (cook, maintenance). “He is reliable. But unfocused.”
Yet Mak is a “heart over honor” type. He’s emotionally open, which is rare among taerniks.
He shows real compassion toward Izaia, later comforting him and encouraging him in hard times without a second thought.
Peaceful, but brave when needed. He’s not as aggressive as some taerniks, but when danger comes, he fights with courage and quick thinking.
(Izaia is a gay top, Mak is a pan bottom).
Izaia “gives” Mak emotional stability, protection without dominance, tenderness, moral clarity, admiration, “a soft place to rest”
While Mak “gives” Izaia confidence, joy, comfort, grounding, emotional warmth, a sense of being wanted.
A scene cut: Izaia sees Mak sleeping and goes awes. He looks at him fondly just a while from the side, taking great care to not disturb him. His Mentor mage Miriti who is an aro-ace herself, is already fed up with his secret yearning and goes “Why wouldn’t you give him a good night kiss?”. Izaia’s face makes a sudden shift from affectionate to stone cold serious. “That's harassment, Mentor.” Of course he knew she was just teasing him, so he played along.
Ingalu - Tall, human-like creatures with long, expressive ears and a pair of powerful deer-like legs. Their voice is a hissing sound, reminiscent of a cat-snake, which adds an eerie quality to their presence. Might appear a bit arrogant and aggressive but just withdrawn and likes peace, so prefers living separately. Dislikes almost all species but would not physically hurt any if not threatened. Ingalu named Kahhoz is surprisingly calm and even polite with small creatures and he even teaches Mak to climb.
Hyehi - The Werehyena. Is a daring, intelligent creature known for agility and strength. They are highly social and expressive faces and bodies, capable of playful or intimidating postures. Often singing and dancing to communicate or celebrate. Despite their fearsome appearance, they are usually peaceful — showing aggression only if threatened, disrespected, or challenged. Their society values playfulness, cooperation, and cunning, making them both charming and formidable.
Le-kob - Small (usually hand size), mushroom-headed creatures known for their cunning and agility. Though they carry weapons such as tiny arrows and daggers, they do not kill; instead, they use misdirection, confusion, and clever tactics to outwit opponents. Their natural stealth and intelligence make them excellent spies and scouts in forests, ruins, or city alleys. They bring a playful but mischievous energy to any encounter.
To the le-kobs, Mak’s abilities felt almost like a different kind of magic. He designed tools scaled to their bodies, transport attachments that enhanced their speed, and outfit add-ons that balanced protection with freedom of movement. He repaired their homes swiftly and precisely, respecting their original designs rather than replacing them.
Humans are extremely rare. Some say because of the fights among themselves and nature punishing them for unjustful killings.
Some of the other creatures have never seen humans. But humans are not considered special species. Mainly seen as cheap warfare as they are easy to manipulate to fight.
Yet there were humans who were known and respected by all the species.
Bederuj and Tarr were legendary humans and lovers, celebrated not just for their passion, but for the wisdom and courage with which they ruled. Bederuj, the slightly shorter bi woman top, embodied passionate loyalty, the fierce “I will shield you with my body” energy, warmth, and fire. Tarr, the taller pan man bottom, was regal and intimidating to others, yet gentle and yielding only to Bederuj, powerful but emotionally bottom, never weak.
Bederuj → “shield of fire” / “heart of loyalty”. Tarr → “stone of kings” / “steadfast”
They ruled their lands without war or mass bloodshed, relying entirely on negotiation, diplomacy, and strategy. Yes, they argued—but never with personal attacks—and every disagreement was resolved civilly. They were the type of lovers who would die for each other, live for each other, rule together as equals, argue fiercely, make up passionately, and love with all their strength.
Not flashy. Not flirtatious. Just big, heavy, grounded love. Their devotion endured to the end—they even died on the same day, in their bed, hugging each other.
Mentor mage Miriti tells their story to her student Izaia and the others, reminding everyone that conflict can be solved without blood, and that courage lies as much in compassion and steadfast love as in battle.
Bederuj adopted an Ingalu whom she found in the forest. She took her only after waiting for the parents but they didn't show up. Bederuj named her Ekki-Bir.
Tarr adopted his late sister's daughter named Euge. After them, the daughter became queen and Ingalu remained her closest person and official advisor. Euge was a successful leader. After her, her sons fought for power and Ingalu Ekki-Bir had to run away with her family from them. The brothers made peace but it was late as at that time the enemies from other human kingdoms attacked. The brothers also were not as peaceful as their grandpas and favoured war.
Kahhoz is a descendant of Ingalu Ekki-Bir.
Mage - Also extremely rare but better known and highly respected. Miriti is one of the most powerful mages. She is also quite wise to use her power mindfully. That’s why some question her power.
Humans think power means holding something still.
Naming it. Shaping it. Making it obey.
That isn’t power — that’s fear wearing authority.
True power doesn’t need a form.
It moves. It breathes. It changes.
The sky isn’t strong because it rules — it’s strong because it has no edge.
And don’t chase goodness or flee from evil.
Those are human shortcuts.
Life is neither kind nor cruel.
It’s vast.
Your task isn’t to conquer chaos —
It's to learn how to stand inside it without breaking.
You don’t defeat a storm.
You learn when to walk, when to wait,
and when to let it pass through you.
If you can’t live with chaos,
you have no business touching magic.
Miriti likes to wear different hats.
Miriti is not only a protector but also a defender. She killed the warriors who violated the laws of war and attacked ordinary citizens to abuse women and children during the war between humans.
“Peace requires active participation, not silent withdrawal.”
The company consisting of Miriti, Izaia, Mak, two other taerniks, and later two hyehi siblings is concealing and accompanying two diplomats who are key members in negotiations. If they are killed there might be war. One is a female taernik, the other is a non-binary ingalu. Yet they are not damsels in distress and capable of protecting themselves and others.
The Taernik diplomat secretly likes singing. Mak discovers it while looking for fallen tree branches (as they try to not use living trees) and hears her singing to hearten herself.
Notes:
Also there’ll be no big fight in any part of the story!
There indeed were easier roads with much more comfortable transports but it also made the travellers easy to detect. Could the mages teleport them? Well, there were a few mages who were able to teleport themselves but not others.
Altering in case movie suggestion: the kings to gentle femdom queen bi and bottom bi king. Also notice that they didn't want kids.
The very first Ending version:
The company gets attacked by different groups which are also enemies between themselves. While the hyehis ride the diplomats to the meeting palace, the others stop the fight and persuade the sides to stop or at least wait till hearing an explanation by their heads.
"They not only broke her heart, they shattered it into a million pieces and then scattered them across the world, making it impossible for her to ever gather it whole again".
It's incredible to me how we, as writers, can wear so many skins.
We write as genders, not our own, in worlds that don't exist.
We slip into the bodies of the powerful, the ruthless, the fearless, while sitting in a one-bedroom apartment, praying for stable WiFi.
Writers are shapeshifters. Necromancers. Magicians. We build universes out of coffee and anxiety.
Writers are incredible, and I will die on that hill.
btw you will miss this in 5 or 10 years. memory will smooth these circumstances down like a river stone, and you will find yourself longing for a shade of light or a moment of this particular innocence. you don't know about what happens next, and one day that will be the most alluring thing of all. don't leave it all for nostalgia. have a nice night now, whatever night it happens to be.
i just remembered that back in elementary and high school, i was friends with a lot of guys and most of them were boy scouts. we were such a tight knit group that it sucked that i was getting left out of things that they wanted me to be a part of. these were all cishet identifying boys at the time, and because i was expressing that i wished i could be in scouts with them, they actually went to their scout leader on my behalf to ask if i could be let in even though i was a "girl". they didn't see me as any different than them. they didn't understand why i couldn't be a part of it.
if you ask me, that's all the proof anyone needs that transphobia & misogyny are learned, not innate. these boys were not old enough to have it drilled into their head at "girls" can't do things that boys "can". they were too young to understand that a "girl" wanting to be masc and seen as a boy could ever be a "bad thing". they saw me as one of the boys. it was never questioned. i actually visited all of these friends after i transitioned and started T and none of them had issues.
they always saw me as one of the boys, to the point of fighting on my behalf to try to get me accepted into their boyscout troop. transphobia, misogyny, and all of these other forms of hatred are learned. not innate. don't let anyone brainwash you into thinking that boys and men are inherently hateful. they're not
Before I realized I was and came out as trans, or actually before I started medically and socially transitioning, I didn't really ever care about my life.
Everything felt temporary and not real. I could freely do whatever I wanted. I didn't care about the consequences despite also battling my crippling perfectionism.
It was a double edged sword where my inner world didn't care and didn't feel real, but the outer world had so many expectations of me.
What I mean to say is, now that I am almost 3 years into my medical and social transition, it's been this gradual change of starting to care again.
I actually want to put effort into my life and figure out who I wanna be and how I wanna show up in the world.
I care about the consequences of my actions and I realize that I am an actual person with feelings and stuff.
Idk. I just actually care this time and maybe life does have meaning and maybe I am worth it and maybe things really will be okay after feeling hopeless for so long.
sending love to those who struggle with the holidays. to those who have lost their family. to those who are from abusive homes. those who are struggling mentally. in a rough spot financially. those who are neurodivergent & easily overwhelmed. and to those who just plain don't enjoy them.
i hope you can smile genuinely, and feel some love. i hope they pass uneventfully, and your transition to the next year is smooth and full of warmth <3

Now is absolutely the time to support queer authors, queer-friendly libraries, and queer bookstores. There is a lot of damage being done to these communities right now, and I truly believe community is the antidote. Find an author to uplift, request a queer book from your local library, and if you can, try and buy a queer book from an indie store. It makes a bigger difference than you might think.
