Little Clinic {Altenna&Lissa}
âAh⊠thank you,â Altenna limped over to the table and hoisted herself onto it. She winced, ow, she didnât mean to put the pressure on her shoulder. Something had definitely been pulled there. âSorry for the inconvenience⊠I ran into a group of bandits on the way to this town. Something about a raid.â
Altenna gave a little pause before continuing her inquiry, âBy the way, you wouldnât happen to have anything for wyverns, would you? My mount, Hagar, is a bit scratched up, too⊠nothing particularly bad, Iâm pretty sure this wound right here is longer than the largest of hers, but she did get in a fight with another wyvern, soâŠâ

@altennate lances!! letâs talk sparring. does 8 sharp tomorrow morning in the courtyard sound good to you??
altennate:
@crimeanpaladin, little busy at 8 (wyvern feeding)! :( how does 9 suit you?
@altennate 9 sounds good!! miiiight be a bit late though. gotta make my brothersâ breakfast
@crimeanpaladin no worries, friend. i know how brothers are :P
"Pardon me, ma'am," Altenna squinted through her decidedly misbehaving hair, trying desperately to keep the thick locks from obscuring her vision rather ineffectually with her arms. A cursory look at the woman in question showed evidence that she would most likely be of assistance, given her local garb. "You wouldn't happen to know where I could get a proper headband around this area, would you? I'm afraid I've... misplaced mine, so to speak."
Sayâri took stock of the person who had hailed her. While she couldnât comment on where this soldier had come from, she could at least offer aid to somebody who was in need of it. And brigands usually didnât seem quite so polite or well-groomed.
âOf course,â Sayâri said smoothly, and reached into her coat. She retrieved a clean double of her own, and offered it with an open hand.
âI always carry a spare, and âtis no effort at all to pick up another at market. Would this suffice for your needs? If not, well, to market for the both of us.â
altennate:
âAh⊠you have my thanks,â Altenna gratefully accepted the white cloth and once more bound her abundant bangs away from her eyes. Being able to see again was a blessing in and of itself.Â
âIâm afraid my mount, Hagar, has been exceptionally rowdy these past few days⊠it is nearing the wyvernsâ nesting season, and sheâs feeling antsy, being so far from home,â the foreigner explained. Like most Thracian wyvern riders, sheâd trusted Hagar to her own devices (mostly just hunting game) while venturing into town, but soon enough the call of a winterâs hibernation would grow louder than Altennaâs own sharp whistle. âI came on hearsay that there was a nesting ground nearby, that she could spend the cooler months among her own, but those places tend to be elusive.â
Altenna chuckled as a thought occurred to her, âPerhaps itâs best if you directed me to the market regardless⊠Iâm likely to require more than a few of my own spares before Iâm off to find this Wyvern Valley place again, and the least I could do is to replace the one you gave me for you, too.â
âOf course,â Sayâri said. She pointed down the road they stood upon, to the tall trails of smoke that extended above the bump of the hill, âThe campfires lead us hence, and company can only do me well.â
She smiled, happy to make a new friend.
âAh, such mounts need their freedom as much as they need a firm hand in the saddle,â she said, âI have heard such a place exists, but I could not guide you there, alas.â
"You have my gratitude," Altenna thanked her, beginning to follow the line of smoke. The band against her forehead felt unusual as she gave her head a deep nod, rather like an abbreviated curtsey. She supposed it was the difference in the material here, which was a much thicker substance than the tattered band she usually wore.
"Yes... though I find that an adequate amount of freedom leads to a wyvern's self-sufficiency in the field of battle. Their instincts become honed on their own, and it takes very little guidance then to lead one on to the fight," the draco knight grinned. "Ah, which reminds me... my name is Altenna. Glad to meet you."
Little Clinic {Altenna&Lissa}
{ ⊠}    -   Usually these weekends had been busy for the princess, running back and forth, offering her free healthcare to the less fortunate. But, here she sat, stave in hand and no request for a healing.
It was quite odd, but Lissa tried to shrug it off. Maybe next weekend, sheâd be up to the nose with patients.Â
The princess had paced back and forth, contemplating on what to do. Should she put down her stave and take the day off, or continue to wait?
Her questions had been answered however, when the door to her little clinic had suddenly burst open.Â
    âW-what!? Who-â
The iron grip she currently had on her stave loosened at the sight. It had only been another person and not some brigand on the loose.Â
âŠBut wait. Were they bleeding?
"Sorry for making a mess of your floor," Altenna apologized, a note of dry humor in her voice as she limped in. Her partially-torn maroon skirt dragged across the ground, leaving lines of blood. "Ran into some bandits on the outside of town... I swear, not all of this is mine."
That was, in truth, the summarized version of all that had happened to her. On the way to town, her wyvern's fins had flared into their alert stance, most likely signaling hostile foes. Altenna knew that Hagar wasn't one to get distracted by potential dinners mid-flight, and a quick circumspect scan confirmed it-- there was another wyvern in the sky, making the movements of a learned mercenary scout. She followed them, then, as stealthily as she could in the sky and then on the ground. The scout belonged to a company ten strong, and Altenna couldn't help overhearing their plans to loot whatever village happened to be nearby. The rest, they say, is history, and the advantage of surprise (plus a giant flying lizard) gave Altenna more than enough favor for victory.
"I got into a bit of... a skirmish," she gestured to her leg, which she'd wrapped shoddily with a strip of her skirt. There would be no salvaging the article of clothing, anyways. "They managed to get a slice in on my leg, and I think I might've pulled my shoulder, but I did 'em twenty times worse."

Rush Hour || Altenna + Aversa
âDarling, Iâve already almost died once, letâs not push my luck. Stopping Phila before she arrives at Plegia Castle sounds easiest. Gangrel locked her up shortly before the incident, but a man named Basilio broke her out. If we can stop Basilio, the incident will solve itself. Or we can capture her before Gangrel doesâŠâ Aversa flinched in pain and put a hand to her forehead. âGods, this is giving me a headache. Iâd like to rescue the girl without getting anyone else killed in the process, but thereâs a lot to account forâŠâ
âWell⊠maybe Iâm not the most politically knowledgeable out there,â Altenna scoured her limited court experiences as she spoke slowly. âBut it sounds like if we prevent this Basilio guy from rescuing her, then sheâll stay a captive, which sounds a lot like war prisoner leverage to me. There could be a lot of issues with that, you know, like⊠war reparations, and stuff? Basically political blackmail, which I wouldnât put past your evil dad.â
She thought some more and eventually suggested, âIf we canât take out the people who eventually kill her⊠maybe, is it possible we could sabotage the weapons? Like⊠filing the wood underneath the point of a lance so it breaks, or replacing bowstrings with flimsy ones thatâll snap if you pull them too far. Spilling ink on spellbooks, or swapping axeheads so that theyâre really really heavy on one side? That sort of stuff. Iâm sure youâd have access to the armories, right?â
âOh, GodsâŠâ Aversa put her hand to her face, exasperated. âThatâs a great idea. It really is. But Phila and her girls got killed by Risen. Ones that I summoned. I never needed a tome to do that, and the Risen themselves came armed and ready, so thereâs not really any sort of sabotage we can do. âŠMaybe if I just talk to the old me? Itâs worth a tryâŠâ
âUndead come armed?â Altenna looked incredibly impressed by this revelation. âWow. Thatâs like infinite free weapons and training... summon these Risen things, take the weapons, give them to recruits and then let the recruits beat on the undead until they donât suck anymore. Mustâve been one hell of an army.â
Trying not to distract herself from the matter at hand, she added, âThough, uh, you probably donât have any experience in it, howâd you even react if you saw a copy of yourself just sorta... pop up? âCause if it happened to me, Iâd probably stab the impostor. That would be really bad on the you-staying-alive front, but if youâre pretty sure past-you wonât stab now-you... gods, this is confusing.â
Oh no wyvern headcanons
[[Iâm going to be using these for Hagar, Altennaâs wyvern, but other draco knights shouldnât feel obligated to follow suit because they are dumb headcanons anyways. Under cut.]]
"Pardon me, ma'am," Altenna squinted through her decidedly misbehaving hair, trying desperately to keep the thick locks from obscuring her vision rather ineffectually with her arms. sesquipedalia-spells-and-science:
Miriel chuckled. âWell, there isnât much chance of that happening. Thanks to our tacticianâs bravery, that dark god is decidedly and wholly deceased. Permanently.â Miriel smiled contentedly as she stared out at the river. The sun was setting, and it cast a brilliant shine over the flowing waters. âI believe this a good place to stop for now. Iâve learned more about your time in the past half hour than I had ever known in the whole of my life.â Miriel struggled to a standing position and offered a hand to help Altenna up. âFor this, I thank you.â
âWell, you never know. Gods do weird stuff sometimes, like come back into existence at bad times,â Altenna shrugged. She added, âThough, of course, youâd have to ask someone more religiously knowledgeable than myself for specifics.
âIâm glad I could help with the research, though,â Altennaâs lip curled into a good-humored smile as she stood with a stretch. With a note of dry humor, she suggested, âAny time you feel like talking about the other three generations we missed today, you know where to find me.â
Level Grind || Arena || OPEN
The Outrealms, thought Altenna, could be a place for discovering oneself. Or a place for discovering a truly preposterous quantity of asshole brigands, either way. The fact of the matter was that perhaps, after the Revolution on her home continent, she might have fallen a bit out of practice with her mage-combat, and sheâd only barely escaped the last encounter alive.
Wind mages, thunder mages... it made her shudder to think of them. Riding atop a draco brooked no space for weakness, and her resistance was truly very poor to begin with. It was ridiculous... had her birth mother not been a troubadour of the first degree, an expert with defending against mages?
The only hope she had for herself was to kill them forcefully and kill them quickly-- two tasks she had little difficulty with. Few people paralleled Altenna for strength and speed, but if enough foes came at her, she would be in serious trouble.
And so, sheâd applied for a turn at the training arena that had just opened at the local Outrealm Gate, and waited behind the steel gate for her opponent, Gae Bolg in hand.
âNothing ventured, nothing gained,â she said out loud. Her wyvern screeched in agreement.
âThat depends on how one defines mass slaughter. Both Plegia and Ylisse ultimately suffered by Validarâs hand. Thatâs not to say we could not recover, but many an unfortunate village perished on his command. Not to mention the soldiers and the sacrifices to GrimaâŠÂ âTwas a rather bloody ordeal in all senses of the word. And though I am not familiar with âEvil Dad Bingoâ, I am certain that Validar would be the champion.âÂ
A twinge of doubt shown in Mirielâs confident smirk. âThough, itâs entirely possible he has begun reform. Validar recently spent some time with the Shepherds, even allowing me to study his dark magic. One of my comrades even developed some manner of⊠relation with him. Then, he vanished without a trace. Even now, I havenât the foggiest idea what went through his mind.â
âYeah, uh, that definitely counts as mass-slaughter for Evil Dad Bingo,â Altenna looked disgusted. She tried to explain, âEvil Dad Bingo is just kind of... a catch-all of traits associated with evil dads? Like, uh, religious fanaticism, assassinating parental figures, affinity for blood magic, leader of important country? Just kind of... things that a lot of evil dads have in common. And then, like a Bingo board, if the right combination lines up, then theyâre probably evil. Being a dad is the free space.â
Altenna paused thoughtfully, a note of solemnity coming to her countenance, âI donât know if evil dads are reformable. Itâs as if they canât swallow their pride, and say they were wrong all those years. I think being really, stupidly stubborn might be a trait of theirs. I guess, maybe, he was trying to convert you? Who knows... but nobody makes a change like that overnight. Iâm sure youâll come across him again... even if he just shows up with a new vessel for his dark god, or something like that.â
Up a Tree || Sumia + Altenna
Sumia heard the call from below. Someone had come by! This was rather good news, or at least the knight hoped it was. Their words were cautious but that didnât mean they were dangerous. In fact they might think that there was danger afoot. After all she had abandoned her things in her quest to rescue the cat.
Sumia tried to peer down, but the way the branches and trees were position she couldnât get a good look back down into the field.
âUmâŠIâm up here! In the tree!â Sumia hoped that since their voice carried that herâs would as well. How badly would her luck be if a potential rescuer couldnât hear her? âI think Iâm stuck!â
Hagar discreetly flicked her neck ruff and nosed the air around her-- a signal Altenna knew more or less signified that Hagar could smell someone in distress. Of course... she also did the same thing when scenting out her prey, so Altenna deftly tied the reins to a nearby tree.
âStay,â the rider entreated, pinning her wyvern with a firm voice and eye contact. âBe on guard.â
The wyvern merely snorted and craned her neck towards a tree further left. Altenna heard what sounded like a muffled shout the treetops, and she squinted, keeping an eye out for someone among their branches. All things considered, the source wasnât terribly difficult to spot, her silver hair and regalia sticking out from the leaves like a sore thumb. Military... but then, what was she doing up a tree?
âHello,â she called out to the woman in the tree. Altenna was hardly going to just leave her there, after all. âAnd, do you need assistance?â
