himmel the hero set an unrealistic standart for all fictional love interests. the guy spent his entire lifetime making sure his crush would feel his love for centuries and he didn't even see her for most of it. his love was so truly unconditional that he didn't even need to be loved back, he did it all so she could see it after his passing. at his funeral frieren lamented not even knowing him much. years later she's looking for his favorite flowers because that madman played such a long con that he managed to rizz up an immortal from the grave

Himmel's love is probably the purest love I've ever witnessed in manga. That man loved her with no conditions and no selfishness. What mattered was not even that Frieren would love him back at some point or that she would ever realize that he did love her so much. What mattered was that he wished she would learn more about life and people in general so that she is never alone.

And she is learning. She is finally realizing how precious life is and how important it is to care about those you love.

All because a man she travelled with for ten years decided to love her just like that.

Stark as a character has got to be the funniest thing to happen in modern anime because in literally any other show except Frieren, he'd be *the* shonen protagonist of all time. This teenager solos a dragon, carves a path through a mountain with an axe, gets bullied by the girl he likes, 1v1's several demons, intentionally takes hits that would otherwise kill a man, and his mentor is literally scared of him.
