william hellsing - posts about my OC, William, who is the estranged son of Abraham Van Helsing. He's a massive dickhead who likes to torture Alucard for fun (and for science!)
fanfic - my various fanfiction works :)
I also tend to add miscellaneous tags to my posts that align with the current topic.
If you’d like to see a tag added for a trigger or anything else, let me know.
Yes I see Alucard as genderfluid but he’d never call himself that. If you tried to explain the concept he’d just go “I don’t care for human labels call me whatever you see fit” and then phase through the wall without elaborating
Some of my bad habits when writing for Alucard - part 1
When I write fanfics or roleplays for canon characters I think it's sometimes fun to sit down and think about things I write well or things I could write better to more accurately represent the character. It helps me improve my writing, and I figured it might be interesting to share some of my creative writing process, as it can be interesting to see what other writers struggle with when it comes to writing canon characters! Feel free to share some of your own as well! :)
Making him talk too formally. He likes to yap but my default writing style is more formal and prim and proper than Alucard’s voice. As an example, he straight-up tells Integra he’s horny at one point in the manga but I really can’t bring myself to do all of that most of the time
Purposefully avoiding using his guns. I just don’t like writing gunfights! I’m not as experienced at it and I have a harder time making it seem interesting. I take every opportunity to make Alucard use his own two hands or some of his powers when he’s fighting. It opens up a lot more creativity for the kinds of massacres he can create.
I sometimes prefer writing for Vlad more than Alucard for this same reason! IRL I love reading and writing things in fantasy settings so I also love swordfighting scenes. So whenever I have an excuse to write Vlad fighting with his sword or teaching someone how to use it, I’m happy :)
I sometimes have a habit of making Alucard act nicer or more patient than he realistically would be, but I think that’s more a product of this blog than an actual style choice on my part. If Alucard was an asshole to everyone who sends me asks, then nobody would send me asks anymore!
if your s/o was a worm, would you still love them?
"...I think you're all running out of things to ask me, but I'll humor you this once.
If I were affected by such mundane emotions, I might let them linger for a while before moving on. A worm who was once a lover might be difficult to let go, but a worm who loves me is of no use to me."
What are your thoughts on fellow monster hunters? Asking for a friend. Maybe.
"They provide occasional amusement. Most are self-proclaimed vigilantes that are in over their head. They don't last long when they hunt actual vampires, and there are plenty of 'monster hunters' who try to kill regular humans, resulting in other issues.
Competent monster hunters are few and far between and usually cause issues when they hunt within Hellsing's jurisdiction. They are, nonetheless, entertaining to confront when my Master gives the order to do so."

/// I came up with a faceclaim for William Hellsing: actor Edward Van Sloan, who portrayed Abraham Van Helsing in Dracula (1931). To me, Van Sloan's appearance doesn't quite fit the part for Abraham because he doesn't look as kindly or trustworthy as other Van Helsing actors did. So I'm taking it as an opportunity to use him for William instead >:)
omg lulu-bear, whats you’re ideal woman look like??? would you want her to have your vampy babies???? you’re like my fav vamp of all time lololol 🍆 🏇
"Sarcasm is unbecoming of you, Dj. Any self-respecting fan would know that I only answer such questions with utmost honesty and two fingers crossed behind my back. They aren't worth my time and they shouldn't be worth yours, either."
Alucard, given that you have a dog in you, I thought I'd ask what your favorite dog breeds are. I'm pet sitting a Great Dane right now and these dogs seem like ones you would like.
"One could say I have the dog in me, another might say I am the dog. Neither are consequential.
I do admire the larger breeds of dogs for their strength and lethality such as the Great Dane or the Pit Bull, though the latter is no longer allowed here. I also can't resist the allure of a tormented-looking Chihuahua on occasion. They and other small dogs are as adorable as they are pitiful."

Summary: William Hellsing, Abraham Van Helsing's estranged son, gives Alucard the chance to prove his worth by killing another vampire for the very first time. When things go awry, William uses the newfound Control Art Restrictions on Alucard to force him to Fall in Line. But not all is right on that fateful night. Not with Alucard, not with the occult magic, and certainly not with William.
(You can also see this post for a brief explanation of my OC, William)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
William rapped his knuckles on the armrest, eyes fixed on the road before him. The chauffeur was blessedly silent, leaving only the incessant whirring of the Model T to feed into William’s rising anger. It wouldn’t be much longer, now; he applauded himself again for deciding to keep the Alucard nearby. That bastard vampire couldn’t be trusted with doing anything beyond arm’s reach, and its latest stunt had more than proved that. How dare it act this way, after all he did for it? He so-graciously gave his vampire a few tastes of freedom - more than any vampire deserved - this is how it repaid him?
William smoothed the wrinkles in his suit, taking a deep breath. The incident would be easy to cover up. The target vampire couldn’t be more conveniently located; the run-down houses and handful of worthless vagrants wouldn’t be missed. Now it was only a matter of getting his vampire under control.
It was his first mistake to trust his vampire to behave without his direct supervision. William’s horsemen were swift when they reported the massacre, but they could do nothing but watch as the Alucard unleashed Hell upon the small village. He was reassured, at least, by the fact that his vampire was unable to leave the area he'd designated when he gave his order to kill. A powerful vampire running amok in a small village was much preferable to a vampire running wherever it pleased, never to be seen again.
William thumbed through the occultist book in his lap, landing on the page that started this whole mess. The book - as always - offered little in the way of information, only vague spells and even more vague instructions on wielding them. He frowned as he drew a finger over the pentagram symbols. The Control Art Restrictions showed so much promise in the months leading up to today, able to inhibit the Alucard’s unruly temperament with ease. But earlier that night, the black marks on its hands were almost useless, barely able to stop his vampire from beginning a violent rampage across the English countryside.
It was a mistake to let the Alucard this far out of his sight for something as unpredictable as killing another vampire. It was obvious now that their connection was weaker with distance: an oversight that hadn’t arisen until he let his vampire out of its cage. But they were much closer, now, and William’s previous methods of exerting his control should work just fine.
The Model T quieted as it slowed, nearing their destination. William could sense his vampire through their connection, the beast's mind assaulting his with short flashes of hunger and the taste of blood. It seemed the foul creature had stuffed itself in his absence, strengthening its powers without the Hellsing’s approval. No matter; it was nothing that couldn’t be remedied with time. He made a mental note to reduce the Alucard’s food intake for a while. Bones only. Fresh ones if it was lucky.
William closed his eyes, taking another deep breath as he shut his mind to the rest of the world. He searched for those monstrous feelings where he knew the Alucard resided. He visualized the magic chains that bound them together, bending the Alucard to his will. He imagined his vampire, glowering, the seals on its hands burning red. He imagined its chains turning white hot as searing pain wracks its entire body, like holy fire sent to cleanse its sins. He imagined its mouth opening in a wretched cry as he inflicts this pain over and over again until his vampire falls to its knees, broken. A perfect picture of submission.
The Alucard’s hatred roiled to a fever pitch inside his mind. It fought vehemently - as it always did - trying to overwhelm their mental connection with images of thoughtless, meaningless violence. William felt its strong desire to see him gutted and bleeding, to suffer a slow death at its hands. His vampire conjured an image to his mind’s eye: the Alucard, covered in blood, standing over a pile of viscera. No doubt William’s body mutilated beyond recognition. ‘ All for you, Master,’ the Alucard said without words, its intent painfully clear through the emotions seeping into the Hellsing’s mind.
How flattering. But it would take more than a few bloodstained nightmares to shake his control. His vampire was strong, but the Hellsing’s will was stronger. William recalled his imaginings, saw his vampire writhing in pain, suffering endlessly for the trouble it caused. The invisible chains connecting monster and man grew hotter as the Alucard lashed out again, causing a headache to rise in William’s temples. Images of the dead and dying leapt into his thoughts like he was peering into the gates of Hell itself, his vampire denying him the authority he rightfully deserved. His thoughts became cacophonous and his hands burned as if he was the Alucard, the cursed seals compelling him to submit, to obey. His hands shook, his heart raced, his face contorted into a grimace. He counted one second, then two, then his breath hitched as the chains suddenly went slack.
The Alucard’s cry ripped through the forest like a peal of thunder, sending a pack of bats scattering from the trees. William’s lurid imaginings slowly manifested themselves into reality; each stripe of pain inflicted onto the Alucard caused William’s heart to race in tandem, and slowly, his vampire’s violent thoughts withered away into nothing. William scowled quietly. The process should have been simple, with how close they were. It should’ve taken seconds for his commands to settle on his vampire, yet he was breathless and sweating, all because the Alucard was acting like a petulant child. A twinge of fear twisted in his gut and he felt for the gun at his hip. If all else failed, a mouthful of silver would shut any vampire up.
“Sir Hellsing,” the chauffeur said. “we’re here.”
William slowly opened his eyes, finally able to catch his breath. He drank in the wretched scene: the smell of blood clung heavily to the air and innumerable bodies lay across the ground in an almost artful display. They formed an arc that trailed off towards the other side of the village - no doubt his vampire’s doing. A message, perhaps? A warning? Or was it marking the area it couldn’t leave? William shook his head; his vampire was so clever when it wanted to be.
William exited the vehicle and approached the once-lively village. It didn’t take long to find the Alucard, following the sounds of its agony until he came upon the source. He discovered it sitting near the main road, hunched over in pain just inside the ring of corpses. William stopped short of the barrier, his eyes narrowing.
The Alucard wasn't in its usual form - yet another thing the Restrictions should have forbidden. Small and pitiful looking, the Alucard had taken the shape of a young child. No doubt as some petty play at mocking him or frightening the villagers. Yet another thing to add to the list of weaknesses the occult magic had demonstrated that night.
“Enjoy your little tantrum, mutt?” William said, but his vampire didn’t stir. He could feel the last throes of occult magic fizzling out, his vampire’s punishment finally coming to an end. He gestured to the Alucard. “And now this? Trying to appeal to my humanity?”
The Alucard lay trembling for a while, then suddenly, its quiet laughter broke through the uneasy silence. Its rumbling baritone sounded strange coming from the mouth of a child. “Does the Van Helsing boy have any humanity left to appeal to?”
William conjured fire and brimstone through the power of the Restrictions, smiting his vampire again. The effects were near-instantaneous, causing him to shiver when he felt the pain wash over the Alucard again. It was as he had pictured it: the pentagram symbols burning red, marring the Alucard for its disobedience. His vampire’s claws clutched at the ground, dragging long marks into the bloodstained earth as it fought the pain it brought upon itself.
William gritted his teeth. “That’s not my name.”
A Van Helsing would have stopped before getting to this point, would’ve given in to weakness and fear, and put the monster down before it could realize its full potential. But a Hellsing would never bow to such insecurities, would never give up such a glorious prize when it was so painfully close to being within his grasp. And most importantly - William shivered again as the Alucard cried out in pain - a Hellsing would never be cowed by his creation.
“Do away with this disguise,” William said. “You won’t get any pity from me.”
“What's wrong?” The Alucard grinned as it lifted its head. Bloodstains coated the front of its body. “Can't bring yourself to torture a child?”
The seals glowed red again as William glared. “That's an order. I'm not playing your games tonight.”
His vampire’s grin grew wide. The Alucard stood and stepped towards the barrier, red eyes boring into William as it began to change its shape. The innocent face contrasted starkly with the sound of bones snapping and reforming, unnatural ridges appearing beneath its skin as his vampire outgrew the child’s body. Its grin became grotesque, opening so wide that its jaw snapped and peeled backwards, ripping its head open to reveal its normal, gaunt face underneath. Scrawls of shadow enveloped the Alucard’s body, cladding its body in dull black leather.
William swallowed the lump in his throat but held his vampire’s gaze. He knew the Alucard was capable of changing into whatever form it desired, but it was rarely seamless. Indeed, it seemed with each transformation, the Alucard made a grander display of mutilating itself. He couldn’t be sure if this was a result of the experimentations or if it was a conscious choice on his vampire’s part, but in either case, he couldn’t tear his eyes away.
Lithe, slender, with endless hunger reflected in its eyes; the Alucard was a perfect predator, or so it wanted others to believe. All William saw was a caged animal waiting to be tamed. Or waiting for the slaughter.
The Alucard reached out with a partially-formed hand, resting it on the invisible barrier. William watched as his vampire’s muscles stitched themselves together anew, soon followed by pale skin, then the white cloth of its gloves. Adrenaline spiked in the Hellsing’s veins, making him feel hot. What marvelous handiwork. Handiwork made possible by him, and him alone. Yet it still wasn’t enough.
What would his father think of all this, to see the masterpiece he’d turned the Alucard into? Surely he’d receive nothing but scorn and disapproval, with Abraham dismissing all of his progress in the name of petty things like ‘safety’ and ‘sanity’. No, William knew what he was doing was right. When he watched his vampire and saw the reality of such a wondrous and terrible creature standing right in front of him, how couldn’t he be in the right? How couldn’t it be right, when he had the Alucard waiting at his beck and call?
“Is this better for you, Master?”
William blinked, realizing that he was still staring. Moreover, he found that a grin had crept onto his face. The Alucard loomed over him, now, still bearing that idiotic smirk that was too big for its face. It had leaned down to meet William’s height, mocking him yet again.
“Yes,” William said quickly, averting his gaze and wiping the grin from his face. He eyed one of the corpses at their feet for a few seconds too long before looking back up at his vampire. “Start from the beginning, servant. Tell me exactly what happened here.”
“Exactly?” the Alucard stood at its full height, licking blood off of its lip.
William looked his vampire in the eyes. “Exactly. That’s an order.”
I headcanon Alucard as being rather surprised and quite impressed by how Seras managed to absorb Pip Bernadotte's soul and turn him into a completely self-aware, autonomous familiar. I like to think that, in all his years of being a freak of nature vampire, he'd never managed to pull this off himself! He also sort of downplays his amazement with her because it's a little embarrassing for him X)
/// I partially agree! Alucard was definitely pleased with how much Seras came into her own during the timeskip, and it's always been difficult for the grump-bucket to express any amount of genuine pride or happiness around anyone without it being tainted with sarcasm. He's very happy for Seras, whether he'll admit it outright or not.
While he'd think it's impressive for any younger vampire to be able to manifest a familiar and have them be functionally independent from one another, I hc that it would be a difficult feat for Alucard or any other older vampire to achieve. Considering how many familiars he had at once, it's really just easier to suppress their personalities than it is to let them run rampant. They get on his nerves enough as it is ///
