Dead!
Sometimes I stab my heart with a pen,
Hoping something will spill out on the page.
Words, maybe, or blood,
It’s all the same anyway.
I sit with the pen in my heart
And nothing comes out.
Does that mean I’m dead?
I’ve tried to find the hot empathy
That once flowed from my veins
And spilled everywhere;
The floor, the dirt, the page.
But I think my blood has congealed,
Shriveled up inside the arteries.
What constitutes death:
The absence of beating
Or the absence of feeling?
