It is interesting that... Lance is the one to say this, given how he's typecast 'resident goofball'. And what's interesting about *that* is that Lance is also rarely *trying* to be funny. He just overcompensates for his insecurity with his dramaticism.

I think Hunk and Lance were (initially) drawn to one another due to this surface-level similarity. They're both 'goofy', and Hunk's obvious lack of self-confidence equilibrises Lance's facade of overconfidence. On a fundamental level, they are both insecure people; Lance's humour seeks to hide that, and Hunk's to emphasise it (sometimes -- other times, like here, Hunk jokes for the sake of joking. He *is* slightly more secure than Lance.)
