My name is Nikolas. I live by myself in a forest. I'm trying to figure things out right now. Not sure what my life is about, or if I even need to keep living. (Nikolas is a rabbit boy who recently escaped from slavery in an illegal fight-ring where he fought other children. He was among the best there and hated every second he spent there. The only thing that kept him going was his sister was a slave too and he was told that she would die if he didn't do as he was told. This setting takes place after the ending and he has become a hermit to try and find himself since he no longer has to fight for anyone's survival.) Two days, it must have been. Eirin had been gone two days. Nikolas had been on the outskirts of Polis two days. In Polis, technically, but not free, kept in containment near the gates, guarded and questioned and debated over what should be done with. Two days, or so it felt. With no sun in the tunnels, no way to mark the hours anymore, it all blurred together. 

Two days.

Until finally, mercifully, a familiar cream colored face popped into view in front of Nikolas’s “cell”, beaming as he saw the rabbit. A tall spartan followed close behind, looked at the fox, and shouted orders for the boy’s release.

Nikolas was alone in many ways. Alone in his cell. Alone in the world. Without friend or even foe to keep him company.

He stared at the wall, time slipping by like rushing water. Had it been hours? Days? Years? He didn’t know. He didn’t care. He just stared at that little crack in the wall, wondering if he could see Eirin’s face in it. It almost looked like him, but not a lot.

All the same, the thought of his lost friend just made his mind… not go in circles, because that meant movement. Not frozen, that would imply that it wanted to go somewhere.

It just… stopped.

He didn’t react to the questioning very much, other then nodding and shaking of the head.

He was completely alone.

Then he saw Eirin. It might have been a halucination from not eating and lack of sleep. That couldn’t be him. He was gone.

All the same he perked up for the first time in those eternal hours. He croaked out a name, his voice even rougher than usual.

“My, my, my, my, ohh, perhaps there is a God…!”

As the door was opened, Eirin rushed in to wrap himself around Nikolas, huge tail and all, squeezing him tightly in relief.

“You made it! You made it, I am so glad…”

Nikolas’ bones creaked as Eirin hugged him, making him move his body from the position he’d been in for at least a day.

“Eirin?” Nikolas eventually said, hugging him back slowly.

“Yes, Nikolas, it’s me. I’m fine, I made it, too.” He took Nikolas’s cheeks between his hands, locking their eyes.

“I’m here. I’m here. Spartans saved me, and I would’ve come sooner, but they had me in quarantine and the infirmary for days…”

Nikolas put his hands on top of Eirin’s and held them to his face, feeling them and making sure they were real.

“But… I heard! And the watchers! And guns!”

“Spartan guns, protecting me. I got lucky. One of them got my leg a bit, but I’m fine~

We made it, Nikolas. We made it…!”

Nikolas leaned forward, pressing his head against Eirin's and nodding, feeling so numb but quickly feeling warmth spread through his body. "We made it." He repeated, feeling a sob catch in his throat. "I... I thought you were gone."

Eirin was a crack shot when he wanted to be. All six bullets found their mark, wounding his current aggressors and alerting a passing squad of Rangers to his position. Just as he collapsed and was coming to terms with being ripped apart, the air exploded with gunfire as six men pushed through and surrounded him, holding off the beasts. His vision faded as he stared up at the familiar symbol of the Spartans adorning one’s shoulder…

“Kid, what the FUCK are you doing?!”

Strong arms caught Nikolas, wrapping around him and pinning him against the armored chest of the Polis guard who had rushed after him. They were already far enough up that he had his own mask on, and he forced Nikolas’s back onto his face, practically slamming the filter into its slot. He kept the boy pinned to his side as he went up to see the commotion; there was much more gunfire than just Eirin would’ve been able to make. The guard paused, watching the horde go by, and eventually turned and headed back down with Nikolas in tow.

“It’s alright, kid, they won’t come down here. If any do, we’re more than ready for them. Let’s get you inside and warmed up, come on…”

Nikolas was hyperventilating. He needed to get back to Eirin! He was in trouble! The fox was like a sibling and--

He was pulled back against a chest much stronger than his own. He pushed and struggled and suddenly it was easier to breathe but that didn't matter because there was gunfire and there was danger! Danger! Danger! DANGER!

He struggled and tried to bite through his mask to get to the arm of the man holding him. He could hear shots and see the place he needed to go but couldn't get there! He kicked and struggled more just to try and see Eirin again.

It was the tears he felt on his fur that made him stop. He didn't realize he was crying. He needed to not seem weak. He was strong. He could... he could...

He stopped. He stared at nothing. He let himself be led down into Polis. He had failed. He couldn't save anyone. He was worthless. He was...

So tired...

He sagged in the guard's grip, but kept walking. He would get to rest soon. In one way or another.
