like a couple that’s far too codependent.

every winter i like to imagine that the sun is a scorned lover

who has done wrong, made a mistake and is crawling back to me

bit by bit

but I’m the one who looks haunted and mistaken

church door back slammed shut against the past six months

a crooked finger wiping the eternal drip from nose across cheek

that bares a smile, hopeful, yearning for our union, our reunion

every damn year
