“Ducklings? You call them that?” he asked. So she was one of the cute and pure residents. “Good, how about you do my teaching for me. And any questions you can’t answer? I will?” AJ offered extending a chart to her.
“I do.” She smiled. Alyiah was generally a happy person but knew when to stop taking crap from people. “Okay, that sounds like a fair deal to me.” She took the chart from him.

“I don’t like answering dumb questions that should have been answered in medical school. Valid, interesting questions…..I’m all here for,” AJ assured the woman. He leaned forward and extended his hand to her. “Lovely to meet you. Second year?” he asked. “AJ Murphy. General Surgery.”
“I can understand that but they are just lost ducklings. But you are an attending so it’s right for them to ask the resident first.” She agreed. “Yes.” Did she give herself away that easily? “Nice to meet you.”

Selen rolled her eyes a little but couldn’t help but smile in the direction of her ex girlfriend. “Seni özledim.” I miss you. She sighed softly and laughed. “Well you’ve definitely kept in good shape that’s for sure, wish I could say the same for me. Are you not going to ask me why I’m doing here?”
Alyiah heard what she said. She had picked up a few words from being with Selen but she decided to ignore it at the moment. Alyiah did miss her but it just didn’t work out. At the time they wanted different things. She blushed when she said she looked good. “I run a lot keeps my mind busy.” She nodded. “Well, I was but I figured you just wanted to see me.”

“I tried. I’m finding it hard to believe that anyone does their job properly around here, the paperwork on my desk would back that up.” She shrugged a little and gave a half smile, “You’re looking good Alyiah.”
“I do my job just fine but I also don’t work in the freezing cold.” She shrugged. Alyiah sighed. “Thanks, Selen. You know have to keep myself in shape.”

He couldn’t help but laugh at that, scratching his head as he looked up at her with amused eyes. “That’s a common misconception about us psychiatrists, we are just as insane as everyone else, we just hide it extremely well… most of the time.”
Alyiah sat down and nodded. “Oh, well good to know. Now i’m going to tell everyone that you are crazy.” She joked. “Seems like you have a lot of work going on.” She looked down at the papers.

“This is amazing! Insane but also amazing.” She wrinkled her nose as she eyed Alyiah. “This is a great catch. God, I’m so jealous right now. I bet Dr. Martinez is going to let you be the first assistant in the surgery, maybe even let you take over.”
“I couldn’t agree more.” Alyiah smiled at her. “Oh my god, you think? I hope so. Okay, but i’m sure she will let you in, too.”

“You expect me to know if you don’t?” She asks, frowning at the scans she was showing. Was that—? “Is that a massive myxoma in his heart?” Her mouth fell open. She had never seen such a big tumor in a perfectly stable and healthy person. “Is he even alive?”
“It’s not that I don’t know. It’s just wow.” She tilted her head. “That’s what I was thinking.” Alyiah nodded. “Very much alive but looking at this I have no idea how he is alive. He doesn’t even have any other issues.”

“I have only been here for three hours and the air conditioning in my office won’t turn off and I am absolutely frozen. If that and the pile of complaints on my desk is anything to go off I am going to say that I am in for a treat here.” A sigh escaped Selen’s lips as she sipped the coffee that was currently warming her body. “Do you think you could get someone to grab me a couple of blankets? I’m gonna need them.”
Alyiah nodded listening to her. “That sounds like garbage maybe you should have them actually do something about it.” She nodded. “I might be able to do that for you.”

jamie nodded his head listening to the young resident, as he walked over behind the nurses station and picked up one of the charts. “you’ll get there one day, if you keep working hard. you’re doing a great job so far thompson. just keep your head up and away from all the drama.”
“Trying my best. I’ve worked really hard to get here. Thank you. That is absolutely my goal I don’t need that drama holding me back.” She smiled although everyone got involved in a little drama at some point but she was happy to not be in anything right now.

“Help from other residents. Not attendings. Not wasting my time,” AJ said shaking his head. She was actually defending the interns? She had to be only a first or second year resident. There was no other option. “And you are?” he asked.
“Are they really wasting your time or do you just not feel like answering questions?” She asked. Probably not a good idea to be questioning and attending but she was genuinely curious why he didn’t like the interns. “Doctor Alyiah Thompson.”

“which means you came to the right person,” she explained with a laugh, fingers grabbing at the scan. “what’s your next course of action?” they could put the patient on beta blockers and continue testing in hopes of finding said lump or cut him open and put in a graft. they were both good options, but andrea was going to let alyiah pick the right one. in medicine, there was never the perfect choice. just the perfect choice for right then and there. “go with your gut.”
She smiled. “Hm.” Alyiah thought about it for a minute knowing that either one would be a good option. “I think we should put a graft in. It’ll save time and help in the long run.” She smiled at Andrea.

“Nice to see not everything changes. Interns are still idiots,” AJ mumbled as he plopped down into the chair at the nurses station. He grabbed a chart and pulled a pen out. It had already been a long morning, and he had another few hours to go before he could even think about taking a lunch break. “Remind me again why I came back to this?”

“Interns aren’t idiots they just don’t know everything and still need help.” She looked at him sighing. “I’m not sure if I knew I could remind you but I have no idea.” Alyiah looked down at the chart in front of her.

Emmett sat in the cafeteria alone, folders and papers scattered on the table around him as he look at them while chewing on the cap of his pen and practically glaring at the papers. He probably shouldn’t have left his office, that way he could scream in frustration aloud and not internally… but he needed a change of scenery and hoped it would make it faster to update the treatment plans and add sessions to his calendar. Someone walked up to him, and he held a finger up to stop them.
“I swear if you even think about setting down one of those trays on my papers,” it was a tiny bit of an over reaction, but it didn’t stop Emmett from waving a free hand at the mess of papers, “I will screech, and I mean screech, at you every time you step near me.”
Alyiah yawned and took a sip of her coffee she just got. “No, just me and my coffee.” She tilted her head. “You sound slightly angry. Are you okay? I thought psychiatrist were supposed to be sane people or something like that.” She shrugged.

“Good morning Dr Thompson, you look like you’re in a good mood this fine Seattle morning.” Nathan said with a grin, his eyes looking up to the window where the rain was hammering down outside. “Were you here for your pre-rounds?” He asked, eyebrows raising slightly, hoping that she was up to date with all the cases he had currently. “How are all my patients? Still alive and believing in Santa Claus?”
“I’m usually in a good mood.” She told him smiling. Alyiah nodded. “I am.” She laughed. “Yes, still alive and very much believing in Santa Claus. I wouldn’t ruin that for them.”

“Not sure if you want to see us nerd out together.” He said. He nodded. “Is it operable?”
“Yea you’re probably right.” She nodded. “I’m not sure.” She took a look at it but everything being flipped was messing with her. “I think so but really this is something i’ve never seen before.”

He sighed. She was right. “No, I’ll just show her later.” He said. He looks closer to the scan. “Is that just artifact or does he had a tumor?” He asked pointing to a tiny spec.
“Are you sure?” She asked. “He does have a tumor. That is why I ordered it in the first place. Good catch, DeLuca.”

“Do you think I can take a picture? I want to show Sam.” He said. She would also nerd out over this. “It’s less than .01% of the population,”
“Uh, no pictures.” She sighed. “I know and we found it. We can go find Sam and show her or I could page her.”
